Our £30m+ defender

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Fri Apr 21, 2017 6:32 pm

Does anyone know whether Ben Mee has been offered new terms? We should have tied this up on promotion along with Heaton and Gray.

Will be very difficult to replace and expect he could easily double what we currently pay him.

Everything you want in a defender especially alongside a Keane type.

Brave, committed, strong in the tackle, can cover multiple positions, left sided and excellent in the air.

Arguably tougher to replace than keane.

Didn't he sign a new contract recently?

I was hoping to reply with a reference to BM...

He is quality, and no mistake.

Agree he would be difficult to replace, but hopefully people haven't noticed how good he really is in his CH position.

Every bit as good as MK for me.

I think we would struggle more without Mee than without Keane (as outstanding as they both are in their respective ways). An Everton fan after lat week`s game joked but I suspect was serious "2 for the price of one?"

Better defender than Keane for me, Keane is just younger and has better distribution so is more attractive to bigger clubs.

At the start of the season I thought Mee looked suspect at times with a few mistakes but he has improved as the season has gone by. It's no surprise that Keane is wanted by the top clubs for his passing and the fact that he is deceptively quick which I think is what Mee lacks, also with him being younger. I think Mee is great for our level.

He's a really good defender, but not on the same planet as Keane in terms of ability and being the complete player. Mee would struggle desperately in a team that wanted to play football back to front. In a bank of four with everything in front of him, Mee is great though. And excellent this season.

Couldn`t you have said the same about Terry?

I think Keane will struggle without the wall of 6 players infront of him. His weakest aspect is his positioning, which will likely get caught out badly at a side like City who offer little protection.

Terry had a lot more to his game than just being a solid defender.

So does MK. I think we all saw that during his England appearances.
