Tarkowski will be a better player than Keane or Mee
Two great centre-backs but Tarka will eclipse them both in time.
Re: Tarkowski will be a better player than Keane or Mee
Its a big ask to be better than an England international. I think he will be a fine player but I don't like comparing him to Keane as it's an unrealistic expectation

A much better footballer just needs to become game hardened.

Mee is a different type of player.
Tarkowski looks a bit casual to me from what I've seen on TV.

Re: Tarkowski will be a better player than Keane or Mee
Yes he certainly doesn't fit into the SD framework, but he has all the attributes of a play making centre-back. It might not be here that he makes his move forward but given time and game hardening he should become a better player than both Keane and Mee.
Of course the one factor one can never be sure about is desire, how much does he want to be the best centre -back in Britain.

Not too long ago you wrote that Mee and Keane should be England's centre half pairing
Not too long ago you wrote that Mee, Keane and Tarkowski will all leave in the summer
Not too long ago you wrote (understatment) that Tarkowski is a central midfielder
So in summary, you write complete ********

Re: Tarkowski will be a better player than Keane or Mee
Two years ago I said Mee and Keane would be the best Burnley pairing in modern times, and so it has been.
I also said I thought both would play for England, so far only one.
I said I thought Mee would do better than Trippier, jury out on that one.
I said we should play Tarka as a holding midfielder because he was the best we had to play there and that he had the right attributes, I think he has, but it's at centre-back that he's going to be played by SD.
I think it would have been exciting to see SD try a back three and these three player complement each other perfectly for doing so.
I did say that all three players would be enviously watched by other managers and that bids might come in for all of them, we shall see how that pans out.

You didn't say Mee and Keane would play for England two years ago. Far more recently than that. You observed the sentiment on here which is all you can go off

Wrong side for the second goal yesterday. That's 3 goals in two games where he's been at fault! I just don't understand the Tarki 'love in'.

Rubbish I said Mee should be playing centre -half during Howe's time here, and said he was the best defender we had, and would be better than Trippier who is a fine player in his own rights.
Sadly You've been deluded by the myth I've never seen these players, it impairs your judgement.

After an unconvincing start, Keane took a year or so of regular football with us to start to look like he might belong at this level. We have to be prepared to give Tarkowski a similar chance despite the demands for instant success.
Re: Tarkowski will be a better player than Keane or Mee
How does that translate into you saying Mee and Keane should be playing for England two years ago? You didn't. And you don't watch Burnley. If I remember right you're the one that said you didn't need to - 45 mins of tele viewing was enough to make a firm judgement.ablueclaret wrote:Rubbish I said Mee should be playing centre -half during Howe's time here

Well you're wrong on all counts Taio, but yes I don't think you need to view a player long to see what their capable of, 10 minutes of Trevor Steven was enough to see his potential, Mee although a very different player had quality and determination writ in him like a stick of rock.

You see Sidney I remain very consistent.
As for Tarka he is still a flawed player partly because I believe he loves attacking as much as defending, but given game time he will become an immense player either here or at a more savvy club.

Re: Tarkowski will be a better player than Keane or Mee
Another of SD's oft used mantras is that he likes defenders who like to defend. Perfect example Mee.
Tarks doesn't look like this sort of a player to me I suspect he will have to change his game to fit into a SD team. If he'd done better defending those 3 goals and less fancy Dan footwork could see him progressing better at TM.

We know Tarks will have flaws, that's why he's with Burnley.
Next season will define him though.
Moe savvy club?
You really don't like Dyche and/or Burnley do you?

I think you should advocate for him playing off Gray instead of defensive midfield.

Re: Tarkowski will be a better player than Keane or Mee
Tark looks like a very composed player who is great with the ball. Doesn't look like he has the pace of Keane but he could become a better ball playing defender. He looks much better on the ball than Mee and probably faster but he will never be able to read the game like him or anticipate danger. As others have said he is a different type of player.

That I fancy is a possibility but it will take a brave manger to use him there.
