Re: Divers
a conspiracy theorist could see clubs with large squads taking the ban to win a pen. if it was necessary.

Looks like Vardy won't be getting a holiday due to doing a 'how to stay on your feet' course.

Re: Divers
If diving results in a penalty being awarded then the 4th official should review it there and then and the perpetrator be sent off immediately
A 2 match ban after the event is not much consolation to the aggrieved team on the day

Excellent point. They should have the goal taken off as well, if the pen was scored.Croydon Claret wrote:If diving results in a penalty being awarded then the 4th official should review it there and then and the perpetrator be sent off immediately

Re: Divers
If the referee is tricked into awarding a penalty or a free kick, or into sending off a player because the simulating player has faked being hit, what would be the reasoning for him to then refer the decision to a 4th official?Croydon Claret wrote:If diving results in a penalty being awarded then the 4th official should review it there and then and the perpetrator be sent off immediately

I'd love for it to be possible to do it your way but i don't see how it can be workable.
Also, we already have retrospective action that offers no consolation to the agrrieved team on the day, like getting a player sent off for a foul that was a dive, or for a Lafferty-esque simulation of violence, or through moments of genius like this...

Re: Divers
I suppose it's a start... but I'd say it is still well short. A video official to monitor the game and advise for penalties / red cards immediately, and to advise the referee at the earliest possible convenience regarding bookings would be my preferable solution

Re: Divers
We can't use a video official yet, that's being trialed and may well become part of the game. But this is an excellent step forward.
Not sure how it would work but we had Robbie Brady yellow carded for simulation on Saturday. At the time I thought it was a foul but having seen it again he wasn't. Would he get the two match ban having been spotted and carded by the ref?

As I understand it no he wouldn't, as he gained no advantage.ClaretTony wrote:We can't use a video official yet, that's being trialed and may well become part of the game. But this is an excellent step forward.

I believe they will only review when the dive results in a penalty of card for the opposition, but may be wrong

Re: Divers
when you think about it logically.
if you are a defender and cheat by dragging a man down its a straight red because you were trying to stop a goal through cheating.
so why shouldnt a cheating diving attacker get a straight red?
both scenarios are the referees opinion.

Re: Divers
Hylton of Luton should have been sent immediately to the dressing room for his disgraceful dive.
