Email from Theresa May
How considerate and personal.
Even if she had personally wrote this email, I wouldn't vote for her and I won't be voting for any of the others.
One thing I always stuck to was never try and win business by slagging off the competition, so I don't understand why that is the only tactic politicians have? Why don't they tell us what they can do rather than what others seemingly can't.
I can't understand how anyone can fall for any of it!

I very much agree.
But Diane Abbott as possible Home Secretary has to be highlighted as something that shouldn't be allowed happen.

Re: Email from Theresa May
May's been rubbish from start to finish in this election campaign. She's constantly failed to expound or stand behind her own ideas and take issues on; she's been shown to be brittle, fragile and an altogether unimpressive leader. She looks weird, acts weird and somebody ought to take her wardrobe out and burn it before teaching her to dress reasonably. Don't say that doesn't matter - because it mattered with Miliband and it still matters. And I voted for her party so it's not an anti-Tory thing for me - to me they still offer far and away the best bet. But her and her close circle who've dictated the direction of her campaign? No. Very poor. Just awful.

If we all stopped believing we HAD to vote maybe things may change. I know tons of people who dont believe in one or the other but will vote anyway.
If everyone who didnt agree didnt vote that would say far more when there would be record low turnout.
The less that vote the more it says.

If you don't vote, then don't ever complain that nothing changes.
If you don't seek to change it, then it never will change.

Re: Email from Theresa May
I voted once in my life. And do you know what happened when people didnt get the result they wanted? They threw their toys out of the pram. It is more likely to change if people DONT vote than do.
But either way, its never affected me whoever has been in charge one way or the other.

What do you hope to happen when there's a record low turnout, and why has it not happened following previous record low turnouts?cricketfieldclarets wrote:This line gets recyled so often.

Sometimes you just have to go with the least bad option - they may all be ****, but some are scummier than others.

What I hope would happen is they realise that there is more than slight ambivalence towards it and that nobody actually believes any of the politicians or enough in any of the causes. Then in future the parties might actually think - if we had a different approach there or focused on our own agenda a bit more we might have won there.
I can honestly say my life has never been affected massively either way because of politics and doubt it ever will be. Youve got to make your own way in life.
Pains me to say it but the best of all of the bad bunches was Cameron. But I still didnt vote for him.

I understand the worry about Diane Abbott, she comes across as a **** and she apparently can't count. But the people of her constituency have had 7 chances to tell her to **** off already and she keeps getting relected with massive majorities so she's probably not as incompetent as she appears.

Re: Email from Theresa May
I can understand, and respect your right not to vote cricketfield but as stated above you take away the chance of having a say. Voting turn outs are, and have been, very low for a long time but nothing changes. This is our system and it will remain so it should be utilised to try and influence the best you can. If you read the manifesto's of each party then you can go for the nearest to your view. I assure you, you won't agree with everything within one party's but I'm sure you can find a best fit. Someone told me the other day they had always voted Labour but couldn't stand Corbyn so will be voting Tory. Now, that way of thinking I really can't understand? You agree with left wing policies but don't like the leader so I'll vote for the right wing. That's strange!
You mention the Brexit vote and toys being thrown but that is a different type of vote. An A or B option, unlike the GE. I voted remain by the way and haven't chucked my toys. Let's see what happens now and, of course, I hope whoever carries it through does it to the best of their ability. It will be tough that's for sure trying to implement such change and keep everyone happy.

Emily Thornberry is no better. She said if we cannot strike a trade deal with the EU our Farmers would not be able to export their produce to Australia as it would "go off" before it gets there. I wonder how New Zealand's lamb gets here, white van perhaps?

Do you think she was talking about lamb? Or do you think she was talking about other items that don't keep as long?
That's a pretty weak reason to condemn someone.

So if you want to promote a politician who does believe in things and cares about the things they talk about and doesn't stoop to the gutter politics of smears and name calling, vote for Jeremy Corbyn. This election does give us a chance to vote for something we haven't seen for a longtime, a politician who actually cares about people. Take that chance!cricketfieldclarets wrote:What I hope would happen is they realise that there is more than slight ambivalence towards it and that nobody actually believes any of the politicians or enough in any of the causes. Re: Email from Theresa May
On the specific point she's incorrect, but in general principle she is so obviously correct.JegunClaret wrote:Emily Thornberry is no better. 44.4% of our exports currently go to the EU. (55% to Europe as a whole).
All these exporters currently have arrangements in place to transport their goods over the Channel and then on to the country of destination.
Whilst its perfectly feasible to send these goods quickly to the other side of the earth, it defies all logic, would cost companies a lot more, and would potentially lead to unemployment of tens of thousands of truck drivers. If you are producing goods in SE England and have a fleet of trucks with containers that export your product - tariff free - to (e.g.) Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany, how can it be beneficial to your business, and (more competitive) to start sending your goods to Australia and NZ instead?
Of course when access to the Single Market ends, then it will - most likely - be more expensive to sell goods to the EU, and NZ will be another option, but it can't be argued that it's a better option for most of these businesses than to continue trading within the EU.

I may be proven wrong but are these two issues really that high on the agenda of most British voters, especially given the state of our public services? Guess we'll soon find out but like you i find the level of focus a tad oddJohnMcGreal wrote:Also the IRA and nuclear weapons.

Abbott is a liability, whose command of figures and indeed reality is pretty vague and whom you really wouldnt trust to run a bath let alone a government department.
There again, that description applies equally to Boris Johnson so lets not exaggerate the extent to which this is a labour only problem.

Corbyn will look after his faithful. He has to as there aren't many Labour Mps who publicly support him. I'm more worried about McDonnell. I get the impression that he pulls the strings.hampsteadclaret wrote:Whatever happens in this election, there is no guarantee that Diane Abbott will have any job at the end of it.

I think it's fair to say that as this election has been panning out one might pretty much say the same of Mrs May.claretspice wrote:Abbott is a liability, whose command of figures and indeed reality is pretty vague and whom you really wouldnt trust to run a bath let alone a government department.

When she became Home Secretary I said that I wouldn't trust her to run a tuck shop in a creche. Her record there tended to support my view, but more recently she has displayed levels of ineptitude and narcissism that have even her most loyal devotees questioning her.
It'll be fine though, she's the only person who can deliver Brexit - SHE keeps reminding us of that!

In my circle of friends and workmates, I always wondered how Jack Straw was our M.P. i can honestly say no one seemed to like him, but always walked it and most said it was a fixed vote and it was down to certain people who more or less forced their families into that one particular vote, but Straw wasn't as popular as outsiders thought in Blackburn..Imploding Turtle wrote:I understand the worry about Diane Abbott, she comes across as a **** and she apparently can't count. I have never missed a vote because I always tell myself that women died to get the right to vote. I think May has been a disaster this campaign and will be voting Labour. Diane Abbott worries me - maybe she'll be out of the Home Secy job if Labour win - but the guy standing for Labour in Bury North is impressive. Our current Tory MP is pro-fracking and against most things I believe are important so no contest
