Tom Ince

Post by Cleveleys_claret » Wed Jun 14, 2017 9:51 am

Huddersfield in talks with Tom Ince regards signing him. Is this not a player we should be looking at. I know his dad is a tool but surely Dyche would keep him in check. Has speed, can score goals from playing out wide. I dont see a player in our squad who is similar. If we are wanting to sign players that offer us something different and could be used off the bench as an impact sub I doubt there to be any better options at the 3/4 million quoted for signing him.

Huddersfield are looking at taking him on a season long loan from Derby who want him off their wage bill

He doesn't work anywhere near hard enough for the prem, which is why he's currently one good game in three for Perennial Bottlers County.

If he was good enough he would have been snapped up long ago, there's a reason he's still at Derby. Would fit into Huddersfield well as they are new to the top, but I would be worried if we were after him.

Not for me. Bit lazy, occasionally spectacular but too often doesn't do the basics.

Interesting signing for Huddersfield but if that's the level of what they end up signing then that'll do for me. We're looking at better.

So you watch a lot of Deby matches to be able to say he has 1 good game out of every 3?

Derby have been a joke for 2 seasons with management changes and any player struggles for consistency within such an environment. He has potential and in my opinion think at a settled club with a good bunch of players and management team like we have a player like Ince could flourish. He is 1 of a few players I think you could pick up for max 4 million and could possibly treble if not quadruple his value in a season. If not clubs would still sign him for similar to what we paid. This to me makes it as low a risk signing as we could get.

Cleveleys, I'm loving that idea that I've not seen him enough to comment but in your opinion he's worth a punt? I'm assuming both of us tend to watch other matches than Derby countys to be perfectly fair! Its like this for me.

- Derby haven't been promoted, despite spending a fortune on transfers and wages. I agree that they have had lot of turmoil, but still
- Ince is still there, which suggests that he's not good enough for anyone to risk. Even if he was, which part of his career, attitude and general play do you think attracts him to a Sean Dyche team?
- Derby under Rowett (a SD clone to be honest, certainly in attitude) want him off the wage bill.

Hughes I'd take a punt on, but again, he's happy to still be there. I'm not sure that fits our criteria on recruitment to be honest.

We all see things different I understand but when he was at Blackpool he was a big team player and was the consummate professional. Sometimes clubs like Derby with their massive playing staff cause players like Ince to go backwards.

I just think the ticks a few boxes for us

- has speed
- British
- top flight experience
- would fit in our wage structure
- can score goals from outside box
- set piece taker
- wouldnt cost too much
- flexible in where he can play

Only 2/3 yrs ago clubs were talking of signing him for 10/12 million. When you look at what Bamford, Gestede, Rhodes and McCormack went for surely Ince provides good value.

The old 'he only has one good game in three' insult.

I wish our players had a good game every 3rd one. Just look at the players ratings from this site from last season to see how many players had 13 good games last year, and by good I mean making an impact.

If you are judging our players performances at Premier League level perhaps rather than judging Ince in one of the better squads in a league lower we should compare to his Premier league performaces, went to Palace on loan who quickly decided they didn't want him then joined Hull for free and within a few months bombed out back to the championship.

I'm judging the comment of 'one good game in three'.

One in three is actually a good ratio to have, especially for wingers.

Wouldn't one in three in the championship equate to one in six in the prem. If that.

There's a reason he's being talked about going to Huddersfield, and why there isn't a queue of clubs opening up a bidding war.

He has only played 15 games which 7 were sub appearances. At Hull he was a new signing bedding in which as shown with our own players an immediate impact is not expected and time is needed to bed in. At Palace was a loan signing and personally I don't much attention to players form when on loan for a short time.

Played against PL opposition for Derby In the FA Cup, think it was against Stoke where he scored two corners and won Derby the tie. (Could have been WBA)

Similar to how they got rid of Boyd.
How Huddersfield got rid of Arfield.
UTD and Keane.
Villa and Lowton.
City and Trippier and Mee.
Rangers and Barton
Wolves and Vokes
Brighton and Barnes

The core of our are a team of misfits who no-one really wanted

I know he isn't the finished article and may never be but the market we are shopping in is very small compared to most Premiership clubs. We are even competing with rich Championship clubs for the players we want. Sometimes a player just fits a la Barton. I believe in Dyche as not just a manager but a man manager who players respect and they would run through walls for him. There is a good player in Ince somewhere, he is different to any player we have and not because his dad is an arse ha ha. Next season we will need a different plan at times as teams will respect us more and fight more knowing they need to put in a proper shift to beat us. Looking at our team/squad at the mo there are few players who we could introduce into a team on 65/70 mins that gives us pace and isn't scared to run at defenders and make something happen. Ince has the ability to do that, proven at Championship level but not at Premiership level so far I admit.

Don't you mean Sean, Ian and Billy huddled together with their hands over their mouths as if suddenly surprised that substitutions exist and then finally getting him on in the 84th minute?

Derby have never lost a game that Ince has scored in (remember hearing this stat late into last season so could have changed in last few games).

He would definitely add something different to our attack but would hinder how we currently play. If the framework was being changed by Dyche for next season to maybe push on then we could do a lot worse with the amout Ince would cost ...... Definitely do a lot worse if we managed to pip Hudds to a loan deal.

It appears so, £7.2 million is the figure suggested that they've turned down, but at the same time they've reportedly accepted a £5 million bid from Watford for Will Hughes.

That is some comedown he has be joining Liverpool for the last 3 years. I remember jambo bigging him on here last season trying to claim that if we bought him last summer for 10million he would automatically be worth 20million this summer, looks like he was another sucked into the hype of someone not always 1st choice at Derby.

It is a bit odd. I'd suggest Ince is more one dimensional than Hughes, but then Hughes seems lighteweight, talented but lightweight. Hughes reminds me of Wilshire, talented, injury prone and did I mention light....
Ince, I've always thought of him as sturdy, bit of timber, bit of skill, found out too easily. £7 million? Possibly worthy of a fringe player exchange, nothing more. If we were interested.

Now that does seem like a rather good deal, especially in the context of £17 million for Maguire
