If you could phase something out?
If you had the power to phase something out of existence over the next 10 years then what would it be? Some things that might be on my list:
Religion
The Royal Family
The House of Lords
Parking on pavements
Football agents
The City of London
Leylandi trees
Arms exports to muslim countries
Non football blogs on a football blog forum

Not necessarily phase out, although I guess if someone could invent a remote to turn down women nagging, that'd be quite nice. I'd quite like to see her lips moving but the volume dropping to muted.

Football
Money in football, I'm not sure you could 'phase it out' entirely but take things back to the old days where there wasn't such a huge disparity between clubs/leagues in terms of finances. This may in turn lead to better atmospheres in stadiums, make it more affordable and truly the working mans game again. There would probably end up being less overseas players here but that would just mean more opportunities for English youngsters.
Non Football
Superficial vacuous Z list celebrities and the whole circus that goes with it - TOWIE, X Factor, Big Brother etc.

Re: If you could phase something out?
If you want to phase something out then you have to supply the way to do it and put forward some creativity regarding what will function better. As far as religion goes, the first thing to address is the issue of transubstantiation and the idea that another man is somehow a conduit between you and God and that your self experience was somehow dependent on others.
The first case is Buddhism and the Dalai Lama claiming to be a living God as well as Hinduism and the notion of Holy men (Godhead is the phrase) and Holy words. Hirohito had to say to the populace of Japan that he was an ordinary man, so this should be the case with the 'Holy' men of India and the Dalai Lama and all lamas and swamis, who are currently lording it with alpha male status as claimed God representatives, spreading superstition and supernatural fear.
In actual fact it is epistemologically impossible to have Holy men or holy words because of the 'sin' of imperfect sense mediation and the subjectivity of the human condition. As such there is in fact no Islam, no Christianity, no atheism, No Judaism, No Buddhism, because there is not the perfect object to receive and act upon it, only one's personal subjectivity and take on the supposed knowledge.
By making that common knowledge, then perhaps we can phase 'religion' out.

Modern Art: I have no problem with the origins of Dada, which was a revolt against art after the atrocities of WW1. It was the punk of it's day, so to speak. But some of the tasteless ugly monstrosities that are considered to be works of 'odd beauty' nowadays are just annoying.

Bad art, not Modern Art. Modern art is a tactical strategy to try and open the door of perception to see what is universally beyond the limits of the human mind. In ten words: Shape represents form but looks like shape. Tough sh*t. Play.
Damien Hirst's sculpture is a vile example of 'public art.' That really does need phasing out, it's folk on committees with too much money to spend and the no taste, hoping to add a bit of 'culture' to the environment.

Chicken-based fast food outlets. - They stink & remind me of that old abattoir stench.
Trendy "superfoods"- quinoa etc - Gets some spuds and carrots down you!
"Celeb culture" - No need to explain
Honours lists- Totally devalued now.
Call Centres in India that "serve" UK customers - Bloody annoying especially if you don't hear well.
Electronic music - Learn to play a guitar/banjo/bass/drums/trumpet/saxophone/glockenspiel/fiddle/flute/whatever.
Bright street lights - Let's see the stars again
Old codgers complaining - Oh er er....

Agreed, that's more or less what I was trying to say. You just did it in a less 'arty farty' kind of way, which is ironic really.Pstotto wrote:Bad art, not Modern Art. Smoking. End the sale of it in public. Addicts (like myself) would pick them up from a dispensary like a prescription. No new smokers starting means we could pretty much rid ourselves of smoking in fifty years.

Well, it is where all our ancestors were from. You know, the vikings, saxons, angles, romans etc. Europeans who came to Britain to trade.BennyD wrote:Remainers; that way they could f*ck off to the mainland, which should surely please them.
Why would we seek to stop immigration and trade with our ancestral homes?

I'd like to phase out electronic sound processors used to filter a signal by creating a series of peaks and troughs in the frequency spectrum. The ones where the position of the peaks and troughs of the waveform being affected are typically modulated so that they vary over time, creating a sweeping effect.

The UK government's mass racial profiling information programme.
"Which ethnicity suits you best?" White? Brown? Indian? Bangla-pakistani-British? British-Pakistani-Bangla? Lancastrian? etc. etc.
If I were a multi-millionaire I would genuinely fund a nationwide advertising campaign encouraging people to tick the "prefer not to say" box.
