YGT Golf holidays

Post by Duffer_ » Thu Jun 22, 2017 10:22 pm

Just back from a 6 man, 3 night, 4 round stay at Linden Hall, Morpeth through YGT. We had a great time and I'm in the seat for next year and would like some advice please.

We would like: 1) course not crazy (Carden Park) busy over the weekend; 2) good food; 3) buggies; 4) course adjoining hotel; 5) decent sized pub/bar; 5) not too snooty; 6) good course but not too hard/long; and 7) a pool/snooker table.

I like the look of Macdonald Portal, Cheshire and Hunley Hotel, M'boro coast. Has anybody been to either one of these? If so, what did you make of them? Alternatively, do you have any recommendations for YGT venues in the North of England or Midlands?

Thanks for your help.

Sorry pal, not a golfer but have plenty of mates who are and this place is highly regarded.

Ronald Koeman is a member there, so it can't be too bad, can it ?

Ive played Mottram a few times and whilst the front nine is steady the back nine is pretty tough even off the yellows

Did the Belfry last summer and was surprised at how relaxed it was and they have 3 courses of varying difficulties to choose from.

We did all three at a decent pace but went Mon-Wed so may be a lot busier and pricier over a weekend

I recently went to Breadsall Priory in Derby with YGT.

It's a Marriott - we did one night stay with dinner and breakfast. We played 2 rounds of golf on the 2 courses they have. Both courses were brilliant - in great condition.

The second course we played is their championship course and recently staged an event on the Trilby Tour (they show this now and again on Sky). It's one of the nicest courses I have played in this country.

We also went YGT for our golf trip to Portugal in May.

Try Woodhall Spa, if you can get a deal.

Tell them Darren sent you.

I'd recommend Hawkstone Park. apart from pool/snooker table its go everything you've listed. Two really good courses, hotel being re-furbished.

Formby hall... did 1 night 2 rounds with pal of mine for 99 quid each...course quite long but beautifully manicured (we hired buggy. Lazy sods),rooms were superb, ours looked over 18th green and the food was absolutely lovely, breakfast was fantastic, full English, continental whatever you fancied and also self serve eat all you want also full use of gym, swimming if you wanted...top weekend away!!

Formby Hall is a very nice course and the hotel is great - 5 star and only built a few years ago.
£99 is a cracking deal if that's available.

Southport is however not a great night out !

Every year, 32 of us go to Nefyn for a two day (1 night) golf trip. The club house has a snooker table, the peninsular course is quite something to behold and you can stay in the Nanhoron hotel in Nefyn which is a short car journey from the course (5 minutes drive) and does good food.

If you then want a change of scenery, you could head to Aberdovey and play there, which is a tremendous Links course, and very welcoming, proably one of the friendliest courses I have played. This is however, probably a 90 minute to 2 hour drive from Nefyn. Stay in Aberdovey overnight, then get the train up to Harlech and play Royal St David's, train back and head home. Or the other way round.

Might be a bit too much of a faff for you all, but you will have 3 or 4 days or tremendous golf and if the sun is out, the scenery especially at Nefyn is incredible.

Alternatively, The Manor House & Ashbury Hotels have come recommended to me and we are probably doing a lad's trip there next year. 7 courses to choose from.

Apologies if all of this ignores your specifics on reflection, I was always told to read the bloody question when doing my A-Levels many years ago!!!!!

My mother-in-law lives on Angelsey so I am familiar with the spectacular views and golf at Nefyn. I will make sure I play it at some point but it is a tough sell for what is essentially a **** up with incidental golf.

Thank you Cheshire and all those that have taken the time to respond. Given me some really good ideas which I will digest and let you know where we get to.
