I'm amazed at the ability of people to read that off Nixons tweets.

I thing one thing that's become obvious over a number of years is that Burnley are an incredibly difficult club to do business with.
If that's a good thing or a bad thing depends on your interpretation.

I can't recollect many situations in recent seasons where we've lost out because we've not been willing to pay an extra million or so.

Just glad some on here aren't doing our negotiating. We would soon have no money left. You want £10m for a player we will give you £12m it's only a couple of million. To Think people were earlier moaning about us paying £10m and £13m for Hendrick and Brady.Damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Yep you are right. We would only have £95 million of last years Premier League revenue left.Jimscho wrote:Just glad some on here aren't doing our negotiating. We would soon have no money left. You want £10m for a player we will give you £12m it's only a couple of million. To Think people were earlier moaning about us paying £10m and £13m for Hendrick and Brady.Damned if they do and damned if they don't.
Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
So if we'd paid what Derby asked for Hendrick first time out - and if we paid whatever Norwich's first request was - and if we'd paid the extra million or so for Grosicki above what had already been agreed - and if we'd paid Robertson's asking price at Hull City's request - I have two questions.
1. How much better off would our squad and league position be now?
2. Would it put us in the best position to get players at good prices in future?

And yet, if our players had turned up for our pat two games, that "only a couple of million" would already have been taken care of. Blot on a fabulous season and achievement for me that could have made a difference in the transfer marketJimscho wrote:Just glad some on here aren't doing our negotiating. We would soon have no money left. You want £10m for a player we will give you £12m it's only a couple of million.
Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
I wonder if the bonus payments are linked to survival as opposed to league position. Hopefully both and not just the former. A share of the league placing money might provide that further incentive.

If our players hadn't turned up for some of our earlier home games that "only a couple of million"would have been needed in the championship. Its all ifs and buts.Just because we have earned a lot of money this last 2 years doesn't mean we should be frivolous with it.NRC wrote:And yet, if our players had turned up for our pat two games, that "only a couple of million" would already have been taken care of. Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
@DCWat, if i were the corporate finance guy that's exactly what I'd be doing - a two-tier structure. And if we survived this coming season i would make it one tier, dropping premier league survival and making it only league position.
Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
We won't be held to ransom and rightly so.
We can't be throwing money around to force moves through, we will polish up the leftovers and mis fits.
It's worked well so far, nothing has changed, 17th is still the aim.

I believe the players staying up bonus was linked to league position in that they received a % of the extra cash pot earned for each place higher in the league.

Think the figure on your link is wrong. The actual figure was £101,237,554.if you put that figure in the search on here you will see there was a thread discussing it.Steddyman wrote:Try again:

Surprised to see Bournemouth getting over £16m more than us - that will give them a lot of clout if we are going for the same players.Jimscho wrote:Think the figure on your link is wrong. The actual figure was £101,237,554.if you put that figure in the search on here you will see there was a thread discussing it.
Might also pay for Defoe and Terry's wages.
Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
Nixon: Watford now in race for Andy Robertson at Hull. Burnley been haggling over fee and looking elsewhere. More in paper.
So this doesn't look like something to do with the Keane deal, it looks like us fannying around over a mil or two. Inevitably I imagine because we're trying to chuck in a load of add ons.
Still, guess I don't care about us missing out on the best left back in the country outside the Premier League for the sake of a couple of million. Because at least we're doing it #TheRightWay

Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
It's simple really, if you want players signed early for pre-season you don't haggle over an extra £1 million. It's a fine strategy when you are selling players but not when you are buying them in a sellers market.
Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
I'd be surprised if he didn't go to Watford if they're interested with the Marco Silva link.

I wouldn't because hardly anybody knows whether Taylor or Robertson really want to come here or are they waiting for better offers. I'd be disappointed if it emerged that taylor or Robertson expressly stated that there wanted to come here & for whatever reason it didn't happen.KefkaClaret wrote:I'd be pretty disappointed if we didn't sign one of Taylor or Roberston over a 1 or 2 million.
Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
Not sure I believe the Watford links. Nixon is known to have worked with agents in the past. I think he's putting the story out there to make Burnley hurry up. He even says in the article that Robertson wants to join us. Link to a former manager is an obvious one.

Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
Agents are well known to create interest in their clients to hurry deals through, surely wages can't be an issue these days get on with it Burnley.
Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
Both Taylor and Robertson could probably stay where they live at present but would probably have to move
if going to Watford or elsewhere not that would necessarily be a deal breaker.
Robertson or his agent might be trying to 'chivvy' Liverpool into making a bid
as that is his preferred option, I believe.
However if the case is we're hanging on and not happy about the price (8m, was it?)
then it does seem a little silly especially as we've been interested in Robertson for a while now.
Wouldn't be happy if he went to Watford.
Most would see that as us losing out on one of our prime targets and to a probable
competitor in terms of possible bottom six candidates.

I wish I could throw away a couple of million quid in the time it takes to sneeze.
Have some on here ever wondered why we are debt free and yet still spent north of £30M last season, and that could have been £40m+ had we landed Robertson in January?
And that's before we start talking about the wages involved.

Considering we were prepared to shell out £10m for Robertson in January, I'd be extremely disappointed if we couldn't manage £8m for him now.
That isn't silly money at all IMO. He's a fantastic age and would come with good experience.

Always a danger in taking media price quotations at face value, but you'd imagine the Hull local rag is in the right ball park with its figures and it makes us look a bit small fry, frankly.ksrclaret wrote:Considering we were prepared to shell out £10m for Robertson in January, I'd be extremely disappointed if we couldn't manage £8m for him now.
