There looking for at least double what we offered
Re: Britt Assombalonga
He signed a 5 year contract with Forest last September.
Seems like he was pretty injury fee up to his serious knee injury where he was out of action for a good year....and since then has suffered a number of minor injuries - including a hamstring in training last December.
In this market I ain't got a clue anyone's what a player like him is now worth......but £8m seems low given what Forest paid for him a few years ago and the years he has left on his current contract.
Again how do you compare this to the value of Andre Gray with a year left on his contract ? Their records in the championship are probably quite similar and then Gray has scored a few in the Premier League though but not yet proven or near prolific at this level.
If people are saying £15m for Gray with a year left then maybe £12m to £15m for Assombalonga is not a million miles off.
I'd defo have a concern as to whether he is fully recovered from that injury though

When you look at the quality of Sandro Ramirez, who Everton got for 5mill, we've still got a lot to learn at this level.
I would presume that Everton will be paying him a lot more than we could afford, but the talent is there if our European recruitment guy knows his stuff.

The worrying thing for me is the number of minutes played. When you divide the minutes by the games it shows that Assombalonga only completes 57 minutes a game on average.Young_Claret_91 wrote:Comparison of Gray last season vs Assombalonga this season on an average per game basis:
He'd need a strict medical before touching this lad. He's clearly talented but we already have Defour who doesn't look like he can play much more than an hour, we don't need another one!

How about his goals ratio though?
Its generally a given that players who are out for a long period will suffer niggly injuries when they start playing again.

You can't base his minutes per game like that tho.
Some of those would have been coming on as a sub when coming back from being injured
Edit. Just checked the 25 league games he played in
He completed 90mins 15 times
Subbed off after 70mins+ 5 times
Subbed off before 70mins 1 time
Subbed on between 45-70mins 4 times

So starting at £22M ? If so for a player who is just back from serious injury with no Premiership pedigree they're as bonkers as the last Chairman.Jakubs Tash wrote:Are you sure it's not at least double what they paid, i.e. £11m? That's what it says in the Nottingham Post.

After what happened last time with Lansbury and Stephens, I thought it would be better to go in with a tempting bid of say 12 million take it or leave it , if they say no move on to someone else and not waste time and ending up with players not worth what we pay.

£8 million for him sounds about right. Low risk. Can't believe I am saying that from watching us in Division 4. Not worth much more though. Not convinced he's the forward we need even keeping Gray.

The Everton comparison is interesting. They made their opening bids some time ago, cracked on through the negotiations and reached a deal everyone was happy with in the last week of June. I suppose i'd prefer us to do similarly, not be about 6 weeks behind.ClaretTony wrote:If the bid is correct, what do you want us to do? Bid £18 million?
I would assume if it is correct then it is an opening bid, maybe like the £15 million (including add ons) that Everton first offered for Keane.
As for Assombalonga, personally im not altogether convinced, but if Dyche wants him then hopefully we'll get him.

Superb negotiating. In many ways buying a footballer is similar to buying a fake Rolex from a dodgy Senegalese guy on your holiday.

At the start of the season we've got 3 very tough away games but 3 homes that we should be targeting as teams who may be around us at the end - we need to have the team in place well before start of the season this time imo and if it takes a few few pounds more than it would at the end of the window then I for one will not be complaining.

We tend to pay over the odds in the end anyway and don't get our player till September.

Depends on the scenario CT.ClaretTony wrote:That's right, expect us to run like cash rich Everton who are able to offer huge wages.
Everton with a budget 3 or 4 times that of ours. Bigger club being able to offer a chance of trophies and European football, turns a players head and nick our star.
Burnley with a 4 or 5 times bigger budget than Forest. Club can offer premier league football, better wages etc, turns a players head and nicks their star player.
It's a chain, no reason we can't do what Everton have to us, to Forest.
It'll all come together, but obviously the sooner the better.

We arent talking about wages, we're talking about negotiating transfer fees. And Everton havent overpaid for Keane - theyve paid the asking price, and for what it is worth, his wages are reportedly 60k, which seems about par to me.ClaretTony wrote:That's right, expect us to run like cash rich Everton who are able to offer huge wages.

Particularly love the comment of one forest fan that because we got 25-30M for Keane that Everton should just hand that over to them if we want Assombalonga. Assombalonga worth the same as a premier league experienced England centre-half?
Some fans are on another planet. 8M is a low start. Reckon 12 up to 15 would get him.

Re: Britt Assombalonga
15m for Gray seems to be a common theme in the press. Yes he has significantly less on his deal but he's already proven himself to an extent in the Premier League.
Assombalonga is a risk as he may not be able to make that leap in quality. He does seem to have recovered but you never know how his injury could effect him longer term. Seems to me Forest are dreaming if they want anywhere near the 15m suggested on their forums, good luck to them if they get it.
