If we signed Cork he would be an ideal partner to get Defour back in the side.

jedi_master wrote:Cork was great for us and is highly experienced at this level. The signings we are making and being linked with say to me that Dyche is very keen to recruit the personnel nedded to allow a change from 4-4-2 if the situation might be needed.

Walters allows us the option of playing him as a wide forward on the right, Brady on the left and one of Vokes/Gray/Barnes (Assombalonga?) up top with, I would guess, Hendrick playing the more advanced of a midfield three with two of Westwood/McArthur/Cork (if rumours are to be believed) sat deeper.

Of course, I see that as a contingency as obviously Dyche is a firmly 4-4-2 man, but it gives us options for sure.
Spot on. If we go with 4-2-3-1 (which let's face it most teams in the Prem do, excepting the current trend for 3 at the back) then we need at least 2 players in each position.

Heaton / Pope
Lowton / Darikwa
Tarka / ?
Mee / Long
Ward / Taylor

Westwood / Marney
Cork? / McArthur?

Brady / Arfield
Hendrick / Defour
Walters / JBG

Vokes / Barnes / Assombalonga? / Gray

Young Understudies
O'Neill / Agyei / C.Long

That leaves our minimum shopping list as 1CB, 2DCM, 1GoalMachine

If Arfield, Defour and/or Gray leave we'll need replacements for them in addition.

I'd also like to see us sign some more young understudies (and not the standard development squad signings). 1GK, 1 CB, 1FB, 1Mid/Winger - players that have Championship/foreign experience and real potential (similar to when we signed Pope, Chris Long etc). That would leave us with a first team squad of 30/31 which I think is about right

By first team squad I presume you mean players who train together, seeing as we can only name 25 players in our Premier League squad? Those additional players could of course be used in cup games but 30/31 seems a bit heavy to me.

25 man squad in the PL, but you can add under 21s (I think that's the age limit), as long as they are "home grown" whatever that means.
I think any sensible manager is going to name 3 goalkeepers in the 25.

For around the same money (or even less) would rather see a younger player such as Clucas

There's going to be little resale value with a signing like Cork although appreciate another year without relegation pays the fee anyway

If we could also get Clucas/McArthur, and at the same time, cut our losses on Defour (not his fault) central midfield would be looking pretty good

As I understand it under 21 are outside the 25.The 25 has can only have 17 foreigners,8 have to be "homegrown".Homegrown can be any nationality but have to have played for English teams between certain age limits(can't remember the ages).

Sam Clucas is 27 in two months, I wouldn't have said that was substantially younger.

Very different players though - I'd take both.

He has just won the egg and spoon race but lost out in the sack race to Mary the tealady. It's all down to the wheelbarrow race now. He needs to win convincingly and he partners Dyche.

Based on what I have seen, a young midfield powerhouse who will go on to be a far better player than Jack cork. Barring any serious injury of course.

Without wanting to be disrespectful that's kind of my point. Where have you seen enough of him to make that judgement ? (Not saying you are right or wrong btw). He has probably played a combined minutes total of 10 games in the PL

Squad of 25 players over 21 and as many as you like under 21. When the squads are announced you will see all the players down to youth team listed in the latter section.

There have to be at least 8 home grown players in the squad of 25. Those that didn't last season at Burnley were Scott Arfield, Steven Defour, Johann Berg Gudmundsson & Stephen Ward.

I've taken the following from the Premier League regarding the home grown rule.

A Home Grown player will be defined as one who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21).

People do understand our current financial situation and the cost of buying players in the premier league?

Some posters would still panic at spending 1 million on a player in 2017!

I can tell you, whoever gave you that information is joking. I believe, any deal, could rise to £10 million but I would expect it to be considerably lower than that without any add ons.

Wow, the club can't win can it. We bet to low and fans complain we are tight fisted. If Sean believes he will improve us then I am glad we have bid an amount that was good enough to be accepted. He has played years at the top level and isn't old, why do people expect him to be valued any less?
