Would you rename Turf Moor if it guaranteed Prem survival or a cup win ?
Would you rename Turf Moor if it guaranteed Prem survival or a cup win ?
Hypothetical question I know, I am not sure, the phrase going on't Turf is synonymous with being a Claret and going on't BooHoo or going on't Aircelle doesn't sound right but I am in my fifties so perhaps younger fans don't really bother. However the kudos of being in the Prem or winning the FA cup is very potent and I could be persuaded to agree. It would always be the Turf )AKA Gawthorpe) however the Bee Hole is now mainly called the Jimmy Mac (which is ok) and the Longside is becoming more and more the James Hargreaves.
The only way it would ever be correct to call it something else would be a new stadium in a different part of town.

Simply rename the stadium and be crowned winners of a cup which then gets you into Europe. Yes please!
Re: Would you rename Turf Moor if it guaranteed Prem survival or a cup win ?

Absolutely. I love Burnley FC and everything associated with it(even the negative tarts who post on here) but the name of a location!!!! Please.
BTW When I moved back to Lancashire one of the first things I learned is they hate change, even when obviously for the better, that never altered.

No, because if I had that sort of power I would win the lottery every week instead.

Yes. Lets face it, to many of their fans, Stoke still play at the Britannia, Bolton still play at the Reebok, Newcastle still play at St James' Park. The original names of stadiums stick. It probably drives sponsors mad but they probably dont mind as long as media types to the line

Totally agree with zizkovclaret. It would make no difference, we'd still call it turf moor even if media didn't

Yes. If it guaranteed us another year at the top table, if call it whatever. Let's face it, how many people call Gawthorpe anything different?

It would always be Turf Moor anyway, so if a firm wants to give us £10m a year for it to be officially called something else, then bring it on.
Valley Parade is still Valley Parade. Gigg Lane was always Gigg Lane. London Road is still London Road. The Bescot is still the Bescot, Field Mill is still Field Mill. Brisbane Road is still Brisbane Road.
All of those grounds have been renamed, the clubs have received the sponsorship money, yet those grounds will never lose the names everyone is familiar with.

Just like the Cricket Field Stand, Turf Moor will be Turf Moor no matter what Corporate lottery win occurs!

You'll never win a cup or qualify for Europe(esp now there's no fair pay entry). Not being mean just the way it is. Rovers never will again either.

You might win the Checkatrade Trophy, the tournament for third and fourth tier clubs.

The Longside will never be the James Hargreaves. They can sponsor it until it gets knocked down, but I refuse to use that name. It's the Longside until it gets renamed after a former great of our club.bfcjg wrote:Hypothetical question I know, I am not sure, the phrase going on't Turf is synonymous with being a Claret and going on't BooHoo or going on't Aircelle doesn't sound right but I am in my fifties so perhaps younger fans don't really bother. same here, and as much as I accept Jimmy Mac, still Beehole end for me. What a great name, why spoil it by this daft trend for rebranding every ****** thing.
Re: Would you rename Turf Moor if it guaranteed Prem survival or a cup win ?
There is only one Turf Moor
Re: Would you rename Turf Moor if it guaranteed Prem survival or a cup win ?
No..
I actually love the fact we're a bit **** at times and you have no idea before a game what Burnley are going to turn up.
Going on't Turf and getting frigging annoyed or absolutely loving it makes it ace!
Leave as is!!!
It'd be boring without these ups and downs ... look at Arsenal!!!!

Re: Would you rename Turf Moor if it guaranteed Prem survival or a cup win ?
No matter what anyone might want to call it in any sponsorship deal in the future, it will always be Turf Moor (or t'Turf) to me just as your training ground is Gawthorpe. As for the stands, like stated, I've got used to referring to the Bee Hole as the Jimmy Mac and that's why we went for the Bee Hole End for this message board, simply because it is a name that has been lost. The other three stands are the Longside, cricket field and Lord.
As for sticking a name on one, I still think it was unforgivable not to call the first of the 1990s stands the Harry Potts Longside given Harry passed away while they were building it. It was put to the chairman at the time who just laughed. Harry's wife Margaret thought the idea of having Harry sat there facing Bob Lord every day was quite funny given they didn't end things the best of friends.

I guess sentimentality plays a part but regardless of what sponsors call things. It'll still be called the Long Side, Bee Hole, Gawthorpe to me regardless of who's name is on it. Call it the 'Ann Summers Sex Stadium' for all I care if it brings in an extra £100 million a year. I'll still call it Turf Moor, Bee Hole etc.

I think most of the views are the same as mine, re the Longside, it will always be the Longside however my children when getting tickets will tell me they are in the James Hargreaves Upper, so perhaps it is an age thing as if you didn't witness it first hand you wont have the affection for it us older lot have.
glad this site is the bee Hole as that name is definitely disappearing, I sit in it and have started calling it the JImmy mac, he is a legend so that's ok, however the Bee Hole is unique.
As for renaming the Turf not heard an argument that will make me want to rename it.

Can we rename it the Happy Clapper stadium and ban everyone who dares to be critical of the club and have a desire to see it improve even in times of success
