Marquee signing?
Marquee signing?
So far this window we have made some solid signings, in my view, that will not doubt strengthen the squad and add competition for starting places. However, other than perhaps Assombalonga, we have yet to be linked with someone more exciting. With a right back, right winger and centre back seemingly still on the shopping list, do you think it is likely that we will make that marquee signing that will set the pulses racing? If we are going to splash the cash, I would personally like to see it done on a creative attacking player.

Looking unlikely
Re: Marquee signing?
Hopefully yes but to be honest have not a clue where he will come from, in this country it may be an up and coming kid from one of the big sides or maybe to shock us all a name from abroad.

Re: Marquee signing?
Marquee signings are a double edged sword. Get them wrong and it could spell disaster, a dis- unified and unhappy dressing room will kill Burnley quicker than facing City United and Chelsea every week. IF there is to be a pulse racing signing we need to advance with extreme caution- something I trust our manager and board to do.

Do you have any inside info,or is it just a general feeling some fans get, when we've failed to spunk millions and millions in the first few weeks of the window?.

A marquee signing will certainly signal our intent.

Think we'll go big on one myself. Not that concerning though. We have Defour, Brady, Gray and Hendrick, who cost circa £40m to add the quality.

We've been linked with the Brazilian Gazibho.

I think it's the right footed winger that is needed. At the moment we have Arfield and Walters to fill that role but neither are out and out wide players and both lack a bit of pace. Would love to see someone fast and direct.

Good possible signing in the USA Under-23 team for the olympics.

Lets put it this way: i don't see any reason why not, nor any reason why our business to date should suggest we won't.

Re: Marquee signing?
In today's market It will be easy to break our record transfer (13m Brady).
We'll get £19m in for Keane after United take their cut and before the reported 5m in potential add ons. I can't see us spending that much on a single player, we'll be strengthening the squad not looking for headline names.

Personally I can't wait to see Defour after a full Dyche pre season under his belt... close to a marquee signing and one who's already in the ranks.. hopefully he'll see it as an opportunity to shine.

Re: Marquee signing?
i cant see us signing anyone else to be honest,as long as we keep hold of andre im not to bothered, if we can keep the squad we have now injury free and 100% fit for the start of season, i cant see why we cant be more competitive than last season, lets keep that happy dressing room and lets not throw a spanner in the works, of course we would all like see a pacey winger or striker but the last thing we want is some overated prima dona upsetting a happy ship. utc

Re: Marquee signing?
If we dont sign anyone else as you say it will be a bit of a joke really and we will most probably be looking for a new manager soon . But lets save that for another daymoaninclaret wrote:i cant see us signing anyone else to be honest,as long as we keep hold of andre im not to bothered, if we can keep the squad we have now injury free and 100% fit for the start of season, i cant see why we cant be more competitive than last season, lets keep that happy dressing room and lets not throw a spanner in the works, of course we would all like see a pacey winger or striker but the last thing we want is some overated prima dona upsetting a happy ship. utc

We need at least a couple more players. Yup! Walters i feel has been signed to replace Boyd. I see no issue with then having 4 strikers in Vokes, Barnes Gray, and CrouchSGr wrote:When we've got Walters, Vokes and Barnes??

Unless Gray got injured. Vokes, Barnes and Crouch are number 10s... target men. I'd prefer us to go for a nippy striker to push Gray for his place.ZizkovClaret wrote:Yup! Walters i feel has been signed to replace Boyd. I see no issue with then having 4 strikers in Vokes, Barnes Gray, and Crouch

Number 9's you mean? Number 10s are like OzilFactualFrank wrote:Unless Gray got injured. Vokes, Barnes and Crouch are number 10s... target men. I'd prefer us to go for a nippy striker to push Gray for his place.
Of course i'd prefer a pacy striker but im realistic so a unit to head up a 451 may end up the kind of striker we go for

Re: Marquee signing?
Walters was our marquee signing never seen a player that caused so much excitement on this board, the new Ronaldo.
Re: Marquee signing?
Nonsense and you know it. No one got over excited. Some were able to see the value that he could bring to the squad, both in terms of experience and being able to play in more than one position, others were not.ablueclaret wrote:Walters was our marquee signing never seen a player that caused so much excitement on this board, the new Ronaldo.
