Aidey flint
Birmingham poised to make a bid, he's only 28 I remember when he was a goal machine for a centre half in championship wouldn't mind him for back up wouldn't cost a fortune

Re: Aidey flint
I remember our two headed goals v Bristol in our last visit.Aiden was awol for both goal. He score goals but is no better than Kevin Long at defending
Re: Aidey flint
Bizarre comment regarding Kevin long. He's an international player playing his football in one of the best leagues in the world if that makes you a bad player then what makes you good. He's proved every manager who have come to Burnley in his time to keep him and not sell him. As fans we don't see what goes on behind the scenes but from what we have seen on the pitch he's proved to be a good player not special not world class but doesn't make him not worthy of playing for us.Woodleyclaret wrote:I remember our two headed goals v Bristol in our last visit.Aiden was awol for both goal. It's because he didn't cost us £15 million.CFS wrote:Bizarre comment regarding Kevin long. Re: Aidey flint
Funny how its often the same posters who write off our signings for not being massive in future potential who write off players who have stayed put to try and break into the first team having been brought in as "one for the future"
An old customer of mine spent his all career in the stiffs at Burnley in the 50's and sixties being there with the group and chomping at the bit always pushing those ahead of him. He was very highly thought of in the club even though the average punter wouldn't ever of heard of Bob (real name (John)Jack - we already had three Jacks) Taylor.

Re: Aidey flint
Misunderstanding ! I rate Kevin Long I don't rate Aiden Flint.Too erratic and drifts out of position and for a big guy not that dominant in the air.
I think this will be Kevs break through season playing alongside Ben Mee

Re: Aidey flint
I'll qualify my statement above.
Saw him play for a good Swindon side when he was younger and had "potential". Unfortunately he didn't progress and left for Bristol City under a cloud.
Now he's older he's likely to have reached his peak potential, which is about Birminghams current level. That said, he could learn more from SD, but that ship has sailed for him I fear.

Re: Aidey flint
I agree with Rick, I swear he scored double figures one season. Doesn't look great defensively though. Id prefer Long.
Re: Aidey flint
The comments regarding Long are baffling, he's never been good enough for us and we've got better and better. He's at least a league below our current standard if not two.

He's not been good enough to hold down a first team place, but he's been good enough for the last few managers to keep hold of as a squad player. I think he must have proved his value to them, and that's enough for me.
Re: Aidey flint
Yep, he's played a lot under all four hasn't he...elwaclaret wrote:Each of our previous 4 managers thought different. I think you're in the wrong job

2014/15 scored 14 league goals which is some return for a defender.KRBFC wrote:I agree with Rick, I swear he scored double figures one season. Doesn't look great defensively though. Id prefer Long.
Re: Aidey flint
He's cheap and has a good attitude. He makes a perfect squad player. That doesn't mean he's anywhere near premier league standard though, which is where we are...Indecisive wrote:He's not been good enough to hold down a first team place, but he's been good enough for the last few managers to keep hold of as a squad player. Re: Aidey flint
Although he hasn't had a proper run in the side to prove it, how do you know he hasn't been developing over the past few years as he matured and as he's been playing alongside improving teammates?
I think I'll leave Dyche to judge. Just don't like how our fans are so quick to criticise and talk down a player who has, by all accounts, been a 'perfect squad player'.

Re: Aidey flint
Kevin Long will come on now leaps and bounds now and really show his potential, the rest of our Irish lads will spur him on!Trust in Sean!
Re: Aidey flint
I don't even know where to begin with this. "so quick to criticise and talk down a player". Those 8 years have flown by, should I wait another ten before I pass comment? Criticism is part and parcel of the game, I haven't been over the top, I've been realistic. Perhaps you can tell me what you've seen in him that suggests he's premier league quality?Indecisive wrote:Although he hasn't had a proper run in the side to prove it, how do you know he hasn't been developing over the past few years as he matured and as he's been playing alongside improving teammates?

Re: Aidey flint
Long as you say, is one of those players who does just enough and is just about good enough to warrant a squad place. What I have seen of him, which; granted is very little as he rarely gets a game but I'd concur that he is not up to standard, but is a reliable, if last ditch option. We're now at a stage where we don't need last ditch and can rely on proven experience and/or upcoming talented individuals coming in. I kind of get where you're coming from.boyyanno wrote:I don't even know where to begin with this. "so quick to criticise and talk down a player". The trouble is we have got 19,000 managers (fans) who have got there own opinions,so you are not going to appease everybody.I remember going to Newcastle & he had a good game till he was injured,Give people a chance?. This is the best team we have ad in 34 years.

Re: Aidey flint
The point is and I agree he had a decent game until he got injured, but I've definitely not seen anything from him to suggest he should be a regular starter based on the end of last season. N.B. I was gutted for him when he got injured. Sentimentality gets you nowhere.S27bfc wrote:The trouble is we have got 19,000 managers (fans) who have got there own opinions,so you are not going to appease everybody.I remember going to Newcastle & he had a good game till he was injured,Give people a chance?. I know that but you have to put things into perspective,Look how far we have come in a short space of time,Are our expectations taking over us to fast!

Re: Aidey flint
He's been with us for years. Hardly warp speed regards Long surely?! We've looked after him over that period don't forget, done our best to improve his game. Be it loans or game time. There comes a time when the club or player outgrows the other. Burnley are on the up. We need to mantain that momentum and not have room for sentimentality, whilst still supporting him in his career in findng him a club, if he so chooses. For me, he is and always will be just a squad player and IF he stays, next season will be even more difficult if we stay up.S27bfc wrote:I know that but you have to put things into perspective,Look how far we have come in a short space of time,Are our expectations taking over us to fast!

Re: Aidey flint
Kevin long is four times the player Flint is. Very unlucky with injuries and also very unlucky to have made so few appearances for us due largely to us being extraordinarily lucky with injuries and suspensions. Like most players would gain a lot of confidence from regular games but because of our lofty status in the prem he's never going to get that.
I was more disappointed with tarks than long at the end of last season. But the whole team took their foot off the pedal.
