Rumours in Stoke we've put a bid in for him

Don't take this the wrong way, but why leave high paying Stoke for pauper Burnley?

Re: Ryan Shawcross
Maybe were matching his 45k a week wages and he has more chance of starting for us.
BTW stoke don't pay all that well in the grand scheme of things top earners 65k and there's 2 of them.

Re: Ryan Shawcross
Early 30's now, would add experience. Is he still highly rated at Stoke or is he looking for a move?
I'd possibly want a younger with 'sell on' type of signing but I reckon he could be a decent fit for a season or two.

Re: Ryan Shawcross
Experienced and able to help bring Tarkowski/Mee on 'on field' and able to be a good role model for the likes of Anderson/Long etc on the training pitches.
Also would add strength and nous at the back and, with Cork in midfield, allow our other players to be more, dare I say it, adventurous in the final third...
Wouldn't be the worst signing but will attract plenty of negative comments because it's not an up and coming "wonderkid" who'll be an immediate England international and worth £50 million in 12/18 months!
Doubt it'll happen though so am going to ignore it.

Can’t see it but would be delighted if it happened.
Would surely be the best part of £15m at least.

He'd be a cracking signing. Can't see it happening but here's hoping!
Here's an article from a week ago in which his Stoke City future seemed to be in doubt: http://www.skysports.com/football/news/ ... s-decision" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's a yes from me. Solid player that would help build a solid squad for the next couple of years that could help keep us up whilst allowing us to keep adding young up and coming players such as Taylor whilst developing those we already have.

Year left on contract, Stoke made an offer and want him to stay. Stokey I know far from happy that this is even being muted.boiledclaret wrote:Early 30's now, would add experience. Is he still highly rated at Stoke or is he looking for a move?

I can't quite believe you still feel you are in a position where you feel you can mock us.
You are nothing, playing at a level below Burton Albion and one above Forest Green Rovers. Your fanbase has eroded, history is all you have. We have a proud history but hand in hand with that is a superb infrastructure and future. You would give your soul to be in our position.
Ryan Shawcross would be an absolutely incredible signing, I am goinģ to say no chance as I suspect even if we can afford the fee we would get nowhere near his salary which must top 60k a week.

We could buy your club and sink it without a trace, and still have money left over from Keane.

Not sure why anyone actually rises to the bait this person sets. He has confessed to changing his allegiance from one football club to another and as such should be treated with contempt and left to contemplate his Channel 5 highlights while the big boys get on with the proper business.Saxoman wrote:Our owners are wealthier than yours, sky money or not..

Re: Ryan Shawcross
If you read their forum the inference is that Stoke haven't offered him a deal and that's the sticking point.
There's speculation that his current deal is somehow linked to what the highest earners at the club are on and Stoke want to renegotiate.
As usual a range of views on whether they should keep him or cash in. One year left on his current deal figure of £10M mentioned. If we are genuinely interested then assume we'd manage the wages issue by making a large one-off payment to him up-front as we have with other players.
If he came he would surely want some assurance that he'd be a regular starter.

Also mental health problems which he finds distraction from by being a t**t on here rather than seek proper help. Would genuinely do him some good if everyone ignored him.1963Claret wrote:Not sure why anyone actually rises to the bait this person sets. A sad person with very little going for him.

Sorry braindead, I tried..

Re: Ryan Shawcross
Very experienced but in all honesty is he an upgrade on either long or tarks? They have age on their side and are similar to him. He looked gash when I watched stoke play last season but would take him to sit on the bench.

I've been an advocate of us signing Craig Dawson, Shawcross would be an upgrade on him.
