Mike Garlick's interview in May
Re: Mike Garlick's interview in May
Its all about opinions as we know. People like to criticise for just having an opinion. Anyway here's mine. Its all about whether Mr Garlick and co want to stay in this league. You can't simply sell Keane and not replace him with someone of similar or of better quality. With all due respect to Tarky he is not the answer. We should also be looking at spending big bucks on another striker and a right sided winger, that would also include keeping hold of Gray.

Selling club, as a long term fan you should be used to it by now.UpTheBeehole wrote:Kilby replaced a chairman and board who were happy to sell our best players and replace them with lower and lower quality replacements.
It's coming full circle.

Imagine sitting on the Turf at a home game, with UptheBeehole on your left, and AblueClaret on your right...
Even after a 4-0 home win, you'd be playing Leonard Cohen in the car home to cheer yourself up !!!

How many of the clubs who have got relegated in recent years can say the same?
Erm, Newcastle, Hull, West Ham, Norwich, Watford etc have all done similar to us.

Re: Mike Garlick's interview in May
There is no way Burnley could sign a player as god as Keane, because a player as good as Keane would want European football and a vast wage. We can sign a player and train him up to be as good as Keane, perhaps.beddie wrote:Its all about opinions as we know. People like to criticise for just having an opinion. Anyway here's mine. I'm expecting celebrations if he's off due to the disparaging comments made about him on a regular basis.

Andre Gray started our last friendly, in our first choice formation of 442, with our first choice goalkeeper, defence, wingers and quite possibly central midfield partnership.
I think it's quite likely that he'd have played, yes.

And Vokes scored five goals in his last five PL games at the end of last season - almost certain he would have started against Chelsea regardless if Gray was here or not.

Heaton - undisputed number oneSidney1st wrote:So YOU think it's LIKELY, but not definite?
Lowton - undisputed first choice right back
Ward - first choice left back
Tarkowski - Keane heir apparent, apparently. No contest from anywhere else in squad
Mee - undisputed first choice centre back
Brady - undisputed first choice winger
Cork - undisputed first choice midfielder
Westwood - Played more often than not at the back end of last season. In residence.
Arfield - Dyche's favourite, works his socks off. Very high chance of starting against Chelsea for his shape-keeping qualities.
Gray - Only pace in side, valuable on counter against a side expected to have 60%+ possession
Walters - tons of top flight experience, can fit in to form a five with Arfield tucking in.
I could definitely see that side playing away at Chelsea, definitely.
Re: Mike Garlick's interview in May
We are waiting for the silly price part of the window to end.
What I can't understand is why he's going to one of the relegation favourites (according to the pundits).

Re: Mike Garlick's interview in May
I never post, I just watch from the side lines but this transfer has rattled me... I'll keep my opinions to myself about what I think of our transfers in and out BUT
If one more person says judge us on 1st September I may explode. The start of the season is on Saturday, players should be in and ready to play by Saturday.
Last season we got lucky, our poor showing against Swansea didn't bite us in the rear because we didn't get our business done in time.
Chelsea is NOT a free hit it's a game we want to try and gets points from. To do this we should have our best team ready. The 1st September is 3 games and 9 points in and we will need every point we can muster.
I'll go back to the sidelines ready for the start of the season on SATURDAY

So you can see it definitely, but it still isn't guaranteed.
That's my whole point, we could turn up at Chelsea and play a completely different formation, no one knows until the day.

And the whole point of the thread is garlick's interview, during which he never guaranteed being stronger / spending more by the start of the season.

Might as well play the youth team then.
Not like we've got points at Old Trafford, the Etihad, Stamford Bridge and were seconds away at the Emirates in the last few years is it.

I just hope whoever we go after to replace Gray that we get the deal done quick n don't start the usual crap of putting silly offers in that get rejected over n over. If the price is £15m don't start by offering £8m, when we know it will be laughed out! Utc..

Keane was alway's going leave EVERYONE knew that but Garlick isn't going to come out and say it his he. We don't HAVE to sell anyone but if they want to leave it's a different story. Andre didn't sign a contract so cheers and goodbye. Will we spend more money than last year who knows the window isn't shut. Will we be stronger? Not on paper (yet) but strength on paper means jack sh*t. Lets see how the grass bit plays out. Typical knee jerk reaction to everything these days.

Walters will play up front with Vokes and Barnes on the bench. The circa 15 million ( Gray sale minus Walters buy) will help to pay our directors bonus next June. UTC

If we get relegated having not replaced Keane and Gray then all hell will break loose.

I'll hold my hands up and say I'd have been happy for Gray to go for a fee between 15-20 million. So in some respects I have no reason to moan about this.
What I would say is that most other clubs sign replacements before they sell, I fear that by not doing that you put yourself at the mercy of other teams instead of the other way round. We need at least two, if not three more first team players to have improved on last year.
