Burnley target £12m Lille striker Nicolas de Preville

Post by IndigoLake » Thu Aug 10, 2017 7:46 pm

Burnley have launched a £12million move for Lille striker Nicolas de Preville.
The 26-year-old scored 14 goals in 30 games for the French league side last season after arriving on loan from Belgian side KV Ostend.
Lille took up an option to make the deal permanent this summer and saw de Preville open his account in their 3-0 opening day win over Nantes last week.

Burnley have been discussing a number of options to replace Andre Gray, who left for Watford this week, including Colombian Duvan Zapata of Napoli.
De Preville is 6ft tall, skilful, has pace and can play on either wing as well as in the central role.
Meanwhile, Burnley have had a £5million bid for Hull City winger Sam Clucas rejected.

Is this from the same Daily Mail that told us Gray lost because SD wouldn't let his girlfriend sit in the Director's box at Turf Moor?

Wow he only signed for them this summer that would be similar to our Vossen deal a couple of years ago.

If you watch the interview with Dyche, you'll see that he admits as much :D

In fact, according to our gaffer, Michael Keane had to go because his brother asked for tea instead of coffee! (Or was it coffee instead of tea?)

Never heard of him.

That doesn't mean anything obviously, just would prefer a 'safer' buy such as Shane Long myself. People may see that as me being a bit dull (perhaps, unambitious?) but I believe we will need whoever comes in to get 8-10 goals and foreigners can take a season to adapt.

Shane Long isn't guaranteed to get 8-10 goals a season. Contracts mean nothing. Danny Rose just signed one and he wants out.

I can't see Long getting 8-10. If we had better alternatives and he was an addition, I wouldn't be against Long, but as what may be our main attacking threat, not for me.

More likely Lille saw an opportunity to make some quick money - some clubs on the continent are smart like that - should be no worries about his fitness considering who their manager is this season

Honestly have no idea why Shane Long is so sought after. He barely scores in a good Southampton side. Imagine if he played for us, would probably struggle to hit 5.

From a quick bit of research, it looks as though the loan thing was a bit of a fiddle - Oostende are owned be the fella who owns lille, so Oostende bought him for a year to get round some fair play rules. So ignore that.

From a couple of articles he sounds like a bit of an Ings - quick enough and tricky, decent pace if not as explosive as Gray, aa much a goal maker as scorer. His goalscoring record last season aside is ok without being great, but it seems he spent a fair bit of time in a struggling Reims side (where he won praise for working hard, which is a tick) and played as much out wide as playing off the striker.

As the wide player come forward we always needed anyway, i'd be open minded about the sort of impact he might have. Not sure i'd want him to be the only forward player we brought in though. We need something a bit more explosive somewhere along the line.

14 in 33 last season for Lille in Ligue 1. Not bad at all.

18 in previous 111 games in Ligue 1 for Reims - not that impressive.

Especially for £12 million.

He looks physically stronger than I'd previously thought, although some of the goalkeeping in France looks dubious. I wonder whether there is anything in this or it's just journo-rubbish. One thing for certain: SD doesn't buy players based on videos like Coyle did with Penny. So have they been watching him?

To give him his full name, Nicolas de Roussel de Préville, was the subject of "creative accounting" last summer. Lille wanted to sign him from Reims but they were under a transfer embargo. So Oostende bought him from Reims and immediately loaned him to Lille. It looked "odd" but when NDRDP was then bought by Lille this summer, following a takeover, for exactly the same amount it was obvious to a galloping man what had occurred.

Personally, I wouldn't want to see us pay £12m for him. Too many of his goals are scored from penalties. Last season he scored 14 goals including 5 penalties.

He's 26.

The player I would have been interested to see at TM was Steve Mounié (Montpellier) but Huddersfield got there first. He scored the same number of goals but without any penalties included. Plus, he's 22.

When Gray departed many on here pointed to the deficiencies that they saw in Gray "poor first touch", "wasteful in front of goal" and that "we can do better" so is Nicolas de Preville an upgrade on Andre Gray or just a striker that has become available at a reasonable price?

I wonder how long the club have known that Gray was definitely going and for what sort of fee?

I really hope we are not pushed into a panic buy.

Just reading that Bielsa, the Lille manager, was asked about our supposed interest in De Préville. He said he wouldn't discuss rumours.

The rumour is traced back to the Daily Mail.
