I read a lot of comments earlier about how danny on loan and another striker would be a good option.
If the rumours about SL have some truth.....isnt that on the right track to this idea ?

Shane Long is a decent player - but as our leading attacking threat, he's not what we need.
If we brought two in up front, fine but not just him.

Klopp on Ings:
"He's ready to go, as fit as he can be, no problem with injury. He will play tonight with the U23s. He's fit but not an option."
Not an option... ready to go... on loan?!

I'd be very happy with Shane Long.
He's better than what we've got.
Unfortunately some Burnley fans live in the land of make believe.
It's a realistic signing.

Coming into this thread late but I seem to remember BFCcrazy coming out with some "in the know" news some time ago and saying if it wasn't true he would stop posting. Well, it wasn't, but he clearly cannot help himself. The desperation to be thought of as "in the know" comes across as quite sad really.

Re: New striker incoming
By that logic we should go after players from Vanuatu and the cook Islands who have many internationals that have played in many tournaments and so must be better than Gray, Mee, Tarkowski, Marney etc who aren't internationals?Vegas Claret wrote:replacing an England C international with a full international who has played in numerous tournaments and people still think Gray is better....

Re: New striker incoming
That works if you think Vanuatu and the Cook Islands are equivalent to Ireland in football ranking. But like so many "by that logic ..." threads, it leaves out large chunks of actual information and therefore becomes nonsense.Goobs wrote:By that logic we should go after players from Vanuatu and the cook Islands who have many internationals that have played in many tournaments and so must be better than Gray, Mee, Tarkowski, Marney etc who aren't internationals?

I think what Viva meant was that Long had played in Finals tournaments, and therefore had that valuable experience.Goobs wrote:By that logic we should go after players from Vanuatu and the cook Islands who have many internationals that have played in many tournaments and so must be better than Gray, Mee, Tarkowski, Marney etc who aren't internationals?
I don't think Vanuatu or the Cook Islands will be qualifying any time soon.

Maybe my example was a little on the ridiculous side but if you want to apply the same logic then I'm sure there are many uncapped French, German, Argentinian, Spanish (and possibly more countries) players that would be better than Shane Long. Being an international for a middle of the road country such as ROI doesn't automatically make him a good player.
David Healy scored many international goals, as has Lafferty (who went further than ROI in last tournament). Healy was bang average in the championship and I certainly would not take Lafferty back now.

Fair enough. It's all about opinions I guess, but in my opinion Gray is an extremely limited footballer at PL level.Goobs wrote:I'm aware of what he meant and my comment was made with tongue firmly in cheek, but I still think what he / she said is complete nonsense.

That's not to say that Shane Long isn't, but I'd be reasonably pleased if we signed him.
Some of the players people are wanting to come here are just pie in the sky, sadly.

Re: New striker incoming
The harsh reality is that all of the strikers at Burnley are extremely limited footballers at PL level, Andre Gray was not alone in that but is being singled out because he decided to leave the club.
If that was not the case we would have been receiving bids for Vokes and Barnes from the likes of Man City and Arsenal and other clubs in the higher echelons of the league. AS far as I am aware we have not received bids for any of them from rival PL clubs.
AS for Nicolas de Preville I think you will find that quite a high proportion of his goals came from the penalty spot not open play. Hardly prolific.

I would agree with you were it not for the fact that Long has spent the majority of his career playing in the PL, that would suggest he's pretty handy for a team to have. Gray has spent 1 season in the PL, 2 in the ChampionshipGoobs wrote:I'm aware of what he meant and my comment was made with tongue firmly in cheek, but I still think what he / she said is complete nonsense.

Think they have the same owners at both clubs involved in the transfer so it's not as straight forward as it looks that they only bought him in June. New striker has to have pace at the minimum. Causes plenty of panic in defences leaving others to ghost in box and punish
