Parking at an underground station for Chelsea - advice needed

Post by ClaretTony » Fri Aug 11, 2017 4:08 pm

I know this is short notice but we are driving down tomorrow, probably using the M40 route. I can't remember where we parked last time but obviously at an underground station and then on the tube to Fulham Broadway.

This is the one London ground where we've never really found a very good parking place - can anyone suggest a good option for an underground station?

I normally park at Finchley North station. It's just 10 minutes off the M1. Costs somewhere between £5 and 10 for the day.

We parked at one by Edgware road station at the bottom of the A41 for the Fulham game. Very convenient.

Its usually free round loftus road. But westfield centres not a bad shout and cheaper parking thankl most car parks. Not too far away. Maybe gunnersbury by brentford also lots of free parking.

Paid parking is expensive. 20 quid a day plus

We're going down the M40. Cost of parking is not an issue and a lot of stations have cheap parking at weekend. It's just finding a suitable station to get the underground to Fulham Broadway.

Unfortunately not going but if your going on the m40, i'd be inclined to park in Uxbridge and take the Piccadilly line to Barrons Court, change and up to Earls Court and then down to Fulham Broadway on District line. Need to leave yourselves plenty of time and there might be a good bit of walking involved.

Try this...go to bottom of M1, then down the North Circular to Ealing Common [on your right], park on the Common.

Tube from Ealing Common station to Earl's Court on Picc. Line [4 stops]

Take District Line [south] two stops on the WIMBLEDON Line to Fulham Broadway...voila!

They're going on the M40, Hampstead.
Your route would entail them driving till they hit the M25, then going north up to the M1, then south to the bottom.
Quite a drive. However, I don't know a better one, lengthy though it is.

Ealing Common is even easier from the M40/A40. Join the North Circular road going south and Ealing Common is only a couple of miles down the road!

You could go to High Wycombe and get the train in from there

Having lived at Uxbridge for 11 years in the past, I would actually park at Hillingdon station, which is right next to the M40/A40, then as ashton says take the Piccadilly Line train (which goes all the way to Cockfosters). Get off at Earls Court and then take the District Line to Fulham Broadway.
Cost is £2 for all day on Saturday.

I'd just walk from Earls Court, under 20 mins rather than mess about getting on more trains.

Hillingdon is probably the best bet as described above.

Some really complicated and frankly daft suggestions on this thread. All you have to do is head to the ground, and drive around the myriad of side roads between Parsons Green and Fulham Broadway and you will find countless places to park completely free of charge.

Really? Don't you have to pay the congestion charges and won't the drive through London take an age?

Thanks all.

We are going to take the Hillingdon option and will probably walk it from Earls Court.

Wow! Didn't know that. I've been put off visiting since their introduction. Used to visit and stop in South Kensington each year.

ps. ClaretTony.....my wife says don't listen to my route directions because I have no sense of direction

To everyone who goes tomorrow - have a great day & come back with 3 points! :D

Irrespective of there being no congestion charge on the weekend, Chelsea is way outside the zone anyway. You don't have to drive 'through' London either. Just drive in from the west on the A40, head towards Hammersmith and then the Fulham Road and park up. There will be no charge on weekends. It's that easy. No need to risk life and limb on the tube.

I love this site - I logged in to say walk from Earls Court but you've already got that advice - there is an away friendly pub there just off the tube and yes if your driving your'e taking the best route. Stay safe and here's hoping, no anticipating a result!

Hillingdon was a perfect place to park - we got the Piccadilly Line from there to Earls Court and walked it from there to Stamford Bridge which also avoided the queues for Fulham Broadway at the end of the game.

All London matches? Unfortunately not, for some of them it's hardly the best place but if it guaranteed wins then why not.

I parked in Parthenia Road and it was about 10 mins max walk. £6 by phone, on street parking.

On a Sunday parking all day is £1.50 at Hillingdon and I believe £2 all day Saturdays (CT would be able to confirm that)and then on the tube, if you use a contactless debit card, you will pay no more than £6.60 regardless of how many times you use it.

I parked about a 10 min walk from the ground, cost me about 8 quid. Quick out, onto A4 then M4. I was at the in laws in Devon by 8.30 including a 10 min splash and dash at Leigh Delamere. Spoke to some unhappy Swansea fans briefly.
