Re: Blackburn Fans on the pitch
The guy who ran on the pitch is a cockroach, nothing more. It takes a special kind of **** to run on a football pitch, assault a couple of footballers and then assault a steward as well. Unfortunately, all football clubs have moron 'fans' such as these. The response was extremely poor and he should never have got anywhere near the Burnley players. There's no defending it.

Interesting that the moron should single out, in Westwood, a Burnley player who shares a name with an Australian racehorse. Maybe is was actually a mating ritual.

Composing his excuses for the defeat to the bitter enemy (in the fans eyes).steve1264b wrote:Best quote is from Tony Mowbray who didn't see the incident!
One does wonder what these managers do on the sidelines sometimes, they never seem to be looking at the pitch!
Re: Blackburn Fans on the pitch
Lancashire Police Chief Constable Terry Wood said: "I am truly appalled at the behaviour of these few, including the one believed to be from the Blackburn fans who encroached the pitch and thought it acceptable to assault a steward doing his job and two players there to partake in the match."
There was a huge police presence in and around the stadium, with police lining the streets in the build-up to kick-off, but neither officers or stewards were able to prevent two supporters running onto the pitch after Jack Cork opened the scoring for Burnley.
Two players there to partake in the match!!!!!!! What planet is he from? Sounds like a Victorian novelist.
How everyone was so slow to react is just another example of Lancashire Police not getting to grips with serious stuff.

Surely got to do time for this and send a strong message to any other nobs who are also lacking in brain cells
Re: Blackburn Fans on the pitch
Meanwhile, a nine-year-old boy suffered minor burns after a flare thrown from among the Burnley fans towards the pitch landed on his back.
A man has been arrested in connection with that incident, while three other people were also arrested following other incidents in the ground.
That is just as bad. 9 yo girl injured. Flare thrown in a jam packed stand? TOTAL MORON who endangered lives.
Flares in a stadium are crazy. Hope he gets a year to cool down and a ban from football, where he doesn't belong.

I initially thought he had his hand on Westwood's neck but if you look closer that's just the camera angle and his hand is only on Westwood's shoulder.MarkGreen wrote:Here is the photo Sparky is referring too

Re: Blackburn Fans on the pitch
He most definitely as got his hand around his neck. Look closer. Look at westwoods skin below his ear. You can see how much pressure was applied. The fans(i use that loosely) thumb is on the opposite side of westwoods neck.

Re: Blackburn Fans on the pitch
The thing about this, as with the previous incident with Savage, is that you can see how strong professional footballers are.
Westwood is one of our slightest players and obviously the moron picked him out because of this. But take a look what's happening:
The fat arsehole attacking Westwood is pushing his whole considerable weight and Westwood hasn't budged despite not even having both feet on the floor. It's nothing other than a chubby, fat drunkard up against a professional athlete. He should count himself lucky they were so restrained.
edit - I don't mean to underplay the incident, merely point out that any one of the players on the pitch (but especially the fitter, stronger Burnley players) could have wiped the floor with the arsehole B&stard fan.

Along with the guy on the pitch these are the sort of people who ensure there'll be no option but to get a coach to a derby match for the foreseeable future.IanMcL wrote:Meanwhile, a nine-year-old boy suffered minor burns after a flare thrown from among the Burnley fans towards the pitch landed on his back.

Sorry Martin, I see it differently........... The actions of these 2 have nothing to do with the coaches. I see it that the Police/Clubs can force folk to have to travel on coaches, but they can't ensure safety of those fans either whilst in transit to and from the game, or with the actions of these two, whilst fans are inside the ground.martin_p wrote:Along with the guy on the pitch these are the sort of people who ensure there'll be no option but to get a coach to a derby match for the foreseeable future.

I was thinking how sad a 30 year old Blackburn fan must be to get on the pitch and start a fight with professional footballers...
Then I saw our guy with a flare is 42.
Brain donors, the pair of them.

He always seems a decent bloke with integrity, and he has unreservedly and firmly criticised the offenders. So why would he lie about what he saw?
He claims that following Cork's goal he turned away from the pitch to have a conversation with his assistants / coaches etc. (or words to that effect).
I think that this is entirely plausible. He's hardly going to focus his attention on Burnley's goal celebrations, and that's where the incident occurred.

He should be forced every home game until the end of the season as a punishment.

Re: Blackburn Fans on the pitch
As Rowls says, who would back themselves against someone who probably trains hard every day of the week?
There was a similar incident at Bristol Rovers years ago. Idiot runs on pitch to confront the goalkeeper in his trainers on wet football pitch. Unsurprisingly he got a right good hiding. Think it might have been Gavin Ward.
Hopefully a prison sentence and a lifetime ban / season ticket in the upper tier.

All joking apart this could have been serious. The idiot with his hands round Westwood"s throat could have had a knife. We could have had a dead Burnley player on the pitch. Maximum penalty should he given in an effort to deter other idiots up and down the country who might get the same idea.

The allusion is that someone could easily breach the security and attack an innocent person on the pitch. As for the flare, it could've been a grenade, end of the day it got past police and ground security when it was turned up to 11 and still somebody got hurt with it.Rileybobs wrote:By that logic the Burnley fan who threw a flare could have thrown a grenade.

It's always going to be easy for someone to enter the field of play if they really want to though - even a bank of stewards would struggle to stop someone intent on getting onto the pitch. The diabolical response time of the stewards or police was the alarming thing.claptrappers_union wrote:The allusion is that someone could easily breach the security and attack an innocent person on the pitch. Being allowed to smuggle a flare into such a heavily-policed game on the other hand is huge incompetence.

The clown should've been surrounded before he reached the centre circle.
If it was Blackburn vs MK Dons I'd understand not during a massive police operation.

Apparently it was his birthday and did it for a bet. You can tell by the way he minced on he was hoping that he would have been detained before the Burnley players put him on his back. The Mr Blobby run on by his brother was pure comedy.

Re: Blackburn Fans on the pitch
Wasn't at the game so some of this maybe incorrect.
I've seen twitter photos and seen comments that some of the police were armed. Not sure why, were there any please sniffer dogs trying to find flares / pyros?
Before the Middlesbrough away game last season there was clear communication from the police up there that there would dogs sniffing out flares / pyros. You would think that would deter the idiots who deem it necessary to bring these to football matches. At PNE in the championship season there were dogs outside, I'm assuming there were looking for these too.

Surely the sentence for stabbing and killing a player would the deterrent in your scenario.
