The Westwood sub.
Surprised this hasn't been mentioned (or if it has I haven't seen it) but for me the game changing decision was to introduce Westwood for Defour. It was timed to perfection at a time where spurs were gaining the upper hand and his timely introduction allowed us to press and win the ball back in midfield and get us on the front foot. A superb substitution. Defour played well though I thought but for what was needed at that time Westwood was perfect. What a manager we have.

Probably hasn't been mentioned because Westwood wasn't involved with the goal.

Why does he have to be involved in the goal? He played a huge role yesterday tactically.

Westwood is a very very good signing in my view, but won't get many headlines because he does a lot of stuff that most journalists and supporters can't appreciate.

Re: The Westwood sub.
Its understandable he wont get many headlines as he is just a squad player and barring injuries will spend most of the time season on the bench.South West Claret. wrote:Westwood is a very very good signing in my view, but won't get many headlines because he does a lot of stuff that most journalists and supporters can't appreciate.
That doesnt mean he is not a good signing as part of us moving forward as a club is having a much better caliber of players filling up the 12-18 squad positions
Re: The Westwood sub.
Have to agree. Love how he keeps it simple and retains possession and does his stint defensively as well. Remember the comments from Villa supporters how he was awful in this regard. Thought he was great against Chelsea last season and then was very unfortunate to be dropped. Great signing in my opinion.

It's still a bit weird isn't it?
We have two injured centre midfielders and we're still bringing Westwood on for Defour.

Would have brought him on earlier , Cork was gone and could not run back, surprised he lasted the game. Mind you it was really hot

Really like Westwood. Does the simple things well, links play, goes under the radar. All three subs were perfectly timed and all three helped shift the outcome of the game. Barnes upset their defensive rhythm, Wood was giving them something to think about with his darting runs and Westwood steadied our midfield unit. Masterclass in game management by our managerial team. I actually fancied us to nick a win in the final few minutes.

In my player scores I mentioned Westwood giving us the fresh legs to see the game through, funny though I thought Arfield would have gone off because I thought he was flagging after a great shift in the heat. Game of opinions I guess.

Cracking player is Westy and going to be very important for us this season. He breezed against Rovers on Wednesday, too much class for that lot and was great coming on yesterday and compliments Cork extremely well.
Mention for Jack also. What a player, he's bringing the very best out of Defour - and that IS GOOD. I'm going to say it but England SHOULD be looking at him - pure class !

Re: The Westwood sub.
It was a master stroke to put him on the bench. Meaning when we inevitably had to shake it up and or bring defour off we had a centre mid to bring on. Starting with all 3 wouldnt give us that luxuey. They all worked their socks off.
