Oxlade-Chamberlain to Chelsea

Post by thatdberight » Mon Aug 28, 2017 4:44 pm

Fee agreed apparently but not disclosed. I wonder how much Arsenal paid to have him taken away...

One of their best players to a rival club.

That will free Hazard up to join his best mate at Burnley. :-)

Nothing special and I think Arsenal are getting the better of the deal IMO.

Just had a glance at his stats he averages a goal every 5/6 games, worse figures then Andre and yet he goes for this much money, ,maybe Chelsea can improve him, but to me he is vastly over-rated in the Premier League, his England record is pretty decent about 1 in 4, maybe international football suits his style more.

He's not a striker like Andre.

I'm with Ric_C and KRBFC. I don't rate him and think it's a surprising move.

The fact that after 8 years no one actually knows if he's good, crap or anywhere in between the 2 makes it astonishing he's getting a move to Chelsea!!

Is he an improvement on Moses or Alonso???

Interesting you compare him to 2 players that have only come good after years of finding themselves.

No he isn't an out and out striker but given he plays for a regular top 4 side, who normally dominate the ball, he should have better figures than he has in my opinion.

This player is a young, reasonably talented footballer who has played with quality players at a club who, nevertheless, punch well below their weight given their combined talents.
Wenger is now unable to get anywhere the best from his squad and seems devoid of new ideas.
I have never seen anything to warrant Chamberlain being anything other than being a player, who compared to some of the imports sporting their wares in the Prem, lacks reliable quality.
He gives the ball away too frequently and has about him a hang dog and unfortunate demeanor.
Maybe this change will pep him up.

It's a strange one really. The lad has done next to nothing in 6 or 7 seasons at Arsenal - unsure how he justifies the reported fee. Mind you, sometimes certain clubs, managers or styles of play just fit. Victor Moses had a good season under Conte last season, for example.

There's clearly ability there but I don't think Chelsea is the right move for him. He's been moved around too much positionally, not started consistently over a number of years and in my opinion he'd be better suited to a mid table side where he's more of a key player.

If he did that he'd start every game in his preferred position and develop more, probably build confidence and become a much better player.

Very good player and very good signing. Also dont forget the homegrown quota requirement. Adding to that with an england international from a rival club is a very astute move.

He averages 30 games a season for them, which isn't great when you consider the number of games they usually have between the PL, the Champions League, the FA Cup and the League Cup. They easily average 50+ games a season. How many of those 30 apps are starts as well? I'd be amazed if he starts 20 games a season yet he's going for £35m? There's something strange about that. It feels like Chelsea are buying potential even after all his years at Arsenal!

Wenger has a lot to answer for not just with him, he's outstayed his time there. I think he's out of ideas and not utilising his players effectively and signing players without thought as to how they'll compliment what he already has.

Mourinho has clear plans of how he wants to play and signs players that given time will shape his team into an effective unit. Wenger appears to have lost this ability.

He's jumping from Arsenal's bench to Chelsea's. Maybe the seats are more comfortable at Stamford Bridge?

He's been at a "big club" for 5/6 years and had plenty of opportunities to show how good he is. However, he's been distinctly average.
Still- I guess £35 million is what these big clubs will pay for someone to be a late sub/play in League Cup games to give the main players a rest.

According to Fantasy Footy figures he's played the following number of minutes each season (going backwards from 2016/17): 1564, 928, 1491, 529, 1063. You'd think a £35 million player would be racking up 2000+ game minutes per season.

For some comparison, Raheem Sterling has racked up: 2509, 1920, 3047, 2219, 1748 whilst playing for Man City/Liverpool (so under the same sort of pressure from big squads).

The pundits called it spot on at the weekend everything at Arsenal is comfortable,Pulis said after their game at the turf WBA had to have a cold shower which he found hilarious, but then Pulis is old-school hard as nails type manager similar to Sean, could you imagine some of these pampered Arsenal players experiencing the same and enjoying it.
