An exciting foreign prospect, decent age, who has caught the eye of a number of teams, or..........?

It needs to be someone of a similar ilk and with similar apparent potential.

Hope we are not ending up with a cheaper option considering how much we should have available.

We need someone of decent quality that can play either out wide or as a ten who will work and drop back (today being a prime example of shortages in midfield with just one injury (assuming Hendrick is out).

Diego Rolan could offer us a similar skill set and the same positional flexibility. Rolan has a lot more experience playing as a winger than Waris, which is where I would look to slot him into the team at first. He is predominantly referred to as a centre forward or support striker, but he doesn't seem to be physically imposing enough to lead the line on his own.

However, at 5m (which is the accepted bid that Fulham are rumoured to have placed) he is more in line with what I would consider to be a reasonable price for a speculative punt, but I'm not sure that he can speak English which could be a bit of a problem. If he doesn't work out I could see us making that back on him from a Championship club. From what I've read he also seems to have a very good team attitude. The type of player that is happy to place the requirements of the team ahead of his own personal glory or positional preferences, to the point of playing out wide and back tracking to do the defensive work that other striker/wingers might not.

I suspect he will sign a new contract with Bordeaux if he hasn't received any interest from a better team than Fulham before he leaves for Uruguay this weekend. A six month loan with a 5m option to buy could be a low risk option for us and the player that could work out well. At the very least it would gives us a viable player to take us up to the next window, the time to evaluate him at little cost and the freedom to avoid any last minute cash splurges on dubious players wanting long term contracts.
Whoever it is it won't be my thrifty suggestion of Diego Rolan. Off to La Liga, contract extension until 2020 with Bordeaux and a season long loan to Malaga.

Lorient probably want or need to sell Waris, Waris wants to leave, so what's the betting he finishes up here anyway?

Dwight Gayle is more suitable to the 'Burnley way' I'd rather have an English forward looking for a home rather than someone unproven from overseas

If the recruitment folk think he has what it takes to play in the Prem regularly, £10-12m is a snip.

I think the issue with Waris centres on his valuation by Lorient as well as the work permit. Even if we could beat them down to an agreement we could end up waiting until the window closes on this one and having it rejected so maybe it is too much to risk.

He would be an exciting prospect just for his pace.

I suspect he is unsettled just like he was at Peterborough and Palace, another of the 'too much, too soon' type players with his head turned by an agent no doubt. He has talent and a good eye for goal but I don't think he has longevity in the concentrate on the here and now department.

Waris seems to me much more of a risk than Gayle, but I'd take waris over wells a thousand times over.
But to me, woods looks like he has pace. And I'm not sure we counter well enough for out and out pace to be our main priority. I'd be much happier with a number 10 with a bit of guile to compliment our current squad.

"Waris is desperate to leave Lorient to meet his growing status and boost his chances of retaining his place in the hugely competitive Ghana squad."

Growing status? I hope that is just the journo talking cobblers and not a sign of delusion on the part of the player.

Retaining his place in the squad? He was recently dropped because he felt an extended holiday was more important than putting in a shift on the training pitch to secure game time.

I'm still crossing my fingers that the media reports of our continued interest are all journalistic muppetry, agent fuelled flim flam or part of a "we have other options" negotiating strategy to land another player. Placing all our eggs in a Waris shaped basket would be a little disconcerting. £9m on a speculative punt with many a question mark attached to him could be considered a very high risk move.

Despite all of the media column inches this guy has generated over the past weeks no other team has shown even the slightest interest in him. The fact that the scouting / recruiting teams of every other club are happy for us have a free run at him must tell us something. Either they simply don't rate him or we have secured a European recruitment team that is more knowledgeable than all of them put together. It wouldn't be without precedence, we have done very well bringing in quality domestic players that other teams discounted before, but I just can't see it in this case.

Which could explain why I'm not a member of any recruitement team :)

Even though we are approaching the closure of the window, and we have missed out on a number of targets that could have done a decent job for us at a much cheaper price, we must surely be looking at better options than this guy. If we mark the end of the window by bringing in this chancer and shipping out Barnes to make room (a valuable asset who has proven his worth and commitment to club and cause) we might do better sticking with the domestic market and writing off any attempts to branch out into Europe for the immediate future.

Where is Waris?

Hopefully not at Burnley when the window SLAMS shut, £9m FFS.

And yet the Sun via France Football, for example - see link early on page 6 - said that West Brom, Brighton, Watford and Birmingham were all interested.

Clearly you've made up your mind that he's rubbish despite knowing nothing about him (apart from seeing a few clips on youtube no doubt).

We clearly need pace in our side - he has that in abundance, he also can score lots of different kinds of goals albeit in an 'inferior league' - in today's market £9 million on a punt from abroad is well worth investing in, in my opinion.
