Re: Dwight Gayle
Dyche would probably prefer Gayle anyway. Domestic talent and immediately up to speed for inclusion in the squad.
Re: Dwight Gayle
Nixon telling Wolves fans Gayle is available. They seem to pay ott so if they go in for him the price will suddenly double.

Re: Dwight Gayle
Gayle would be a good signing, but Newcastle will be wanting a silly amount for him. Any cash that they receive will be used to strengthen their squad. I think we have fixed our sights on doing more than simply staying up. However, to achieve the minimum aim of staying in the Premier League we only need to beat 3 teams and Newcastle could be one of those teams.
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/footba ... United-18m" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
A struggling Newcastle with a frustrated Rafa will be far weaker than a happy Rafa with £18m in his pocket that he can use to strengthen his squad. I suspect Rafa could do quite a lot with £18m and he will no doubt have deals lined up that can be triggered as soon as the cash hits the bank. Keeping Newcastle poor could put us in a stronger position than adding Gayle, but if we can get him in for less than we paid for Woody it might be a good move.
With Arsenal still refusing to loan out Perez we could go in with another offer for Andone, if only to demonstrate that we have a variety of options to pursue. Newcastle are looking a bit desperate and if we do go in for Gayle we shouldn't be afraid to play hard ball by taking advantage of their current cash flow woes. They need to sell players more than we need to buy so we could knock them down to their rock bottom price and walk away if they don't capitulate.
I would be happy to see him here for a knock down price, but if we are looking at a high price and a bidding war then I would rather look elsewhere or wait until the next window. £18m is extortionate and we could still use another backup defender if we are spending.

Re: Dwight Gayle
we've just agreed to pay around £15m for wood who doesn't have as many premier league minutes, nor premier league goals and who scored less from open play than gayle did in the championship last season.Long Time Lurker wrote:£18m is extortionate and we could still use another backup defender if we are spending.
gayle is 2 years older but also has 4 years left on his contract.
£18m wouldn't be extortionate at all.

18m?!!
That makes me at least £28m. Im more if a flair freewheelin type midfielder though so won't fit the framework unfortunately

£18m for a lad who is almost 28 and has barely managed 100 professional appearances.

What sort of logic is that? Just because he's potentially being sold by Newcastle, doesn't mean he's not good enough for another team.AGENT_CLARET wrote:Not good enough for Newcastle at prem level = Not good enough for Burnley at prem level
I do wonder why I bother posting stats when people will just make their minds up based on what the fans or owners of other clubs think. Thankfully, Dyche looks beyond all that.

Re: Dwight Gayle
I like Gayle but there's no point paying £15 million for a player who probably won't make our first team. We'd be better off increasing our offer for Maris or looking elsewhere.

Re: Dwight Gayle
With plenty of journalistic rumours to pick from (and nothing to suggest it isn't all rubbish) I prefer this one
http://www.teamtalk.com/news/newcastle- ... adying-bid" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and this one
http://www.footballinsider247.com/relia ... -strikers/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and £8-10m
If we are thinking about him and we can't take full advantage of Newcastles' desperation something is wrong.

Re: Dwight Gayle
The link says they have told Leeds they want £18 mil. Don't know what he earns but would Leeds or us pay the wage he would want? If he got the goals needed to get a few places higher he would be worth it.

Why are they selling him if he's THAT GOOD ????????

Re: Dwight Gayle
If you want to make a case that players who are sold aren't 'that good' you could mention anyone from our own Steven Defour to Neymar. The reality is, there are a number of reasons why clubs sell players.AGENT_CLARET wrote:Why are they selling him if he's THAT GOOD ????????
In this case, it sounds like Benitez has an idea of how he wants to approach things in the PL. Apparently, he wants to play 1 up front and Gayle is not the man to do that. Thankfully, that's not a problem for us since we have Wood and Vokes who can play as loan strikers. Another reason seems to be that they need to sell in order to buy. They obviously feel they can get sufficient money for Gayle and strengthen the squad with that money.
The facts are that Dwight Gayle scored goals for fun in the Championship last year, he has an impressive goals per minutes played in the PL and he offers the pace that we're so desperately crying out for. What's not to like?

Re: Dwight Gayle
But we don't know the price tag. Until Newcastle come out and are actually quoted as saying the price, it's all speculation.AGENT_CLARET wrote:The price tag and the history of injuries
Also, he doesn't have a history of injuries - not in recent seasons anyway: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dwight- ... ler/196522" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Even if his injury record was suspect, you'd imagine we wouldn't sign him unless we were confident he was past all that. Medicals are extremely thorough these days and players obviously get very fit playing for Dyche. So I don't think that would be a major concern if it went through.

Even Steven Gerrard thought Benitez was a terrible man manager. Hardly surprising given he has Redknappitus and needs to sign 10 players every transfer window
