Hope they have withdrawn Stella from the shelves in Burnley today.

Some of the above comments are embarrassing.

How can it be good business?

The guy is out injured, not young, struggled to get into Hudds team when fit last season, isn't that fast, has no experience in the premier league. I could go on.

I wouldn't even buy him as back up. Whats the point in having him as back up? He's utter crap

Not much point as back up if he is injured, imagine him doing a medical

Should give us something different up front probably from the bench. Untested at this level so look forward to seeing how he settles.

2 years ago I think most would have been happy with this. Wagners style of play stifled the threat he posed as they pass it around the box rather than play through the units quickly stretching play. As suggested above as an impact sub to run the channels against tiring legs this could be an inspired signing.

In Dyche we trust

He's doesn't have that much pace. No where near as quick as grey. Probably slightly quicker than wood

That's fair enough CT, but I'd have liked to think we may have set our sights higher than the likes of Wells.
What would be your thought if Huddersfield had stayed down?

Strikes me as a panic buy or plan H.

Either way he is a very underwhelming signing, and doesn't add any weight to claims we will be looking to be stronger than last season.
I'm struggling to see what we are trying to build. I get the Bardsley, Walters and Taylor buys, I can't see what this buy does.

Unless a number 10 , winger and CB are also on the way. But can't see it.

He's got a short term injury, he's 27, he played over 30 league games for Huddersfield last season. He is quick and we've made plenty other signings for players who had no Premier League experience. Am I excited about him signing? No, I'm not, but I'll back Dyche's judgement over your utter crap suggestion.

jedi_master wrote:I would have to say neither is Nahki Wells. One was a 23 goal striker we sold for 18.5m, the other is a guy who got 10 goals and isn't wanted by Huddersfield Town.

I just find it incredibly perplexing considering some of the seriously impressive signings we have made in the last 12 months (Defour, Hendrick, Brady, Cork etc) that we are laying down £10m for Wells. Boden says 5, but he didn't even know it was happening so I am far more inclined to believe Nixon on this one.

Mental signing in my opinion, but we have to give him a chance if he is becoming a Claret. Really hope this doesn't signify Barnes going because I would be livid to replace Ash with Wells let alone Gray.
The "10 goals in the Championship" line is a bit silly considering he played alot of games out wide last year, he scored 17 the season before when played through the middle.

To be fair on those saying just a niggle injury, remember Taylor and his minor surgery, he wasn't right all season.

Panic buy, nothing more nothing less.

I trust Dyche and hoping it's a smokescreen, sadly too many news sources on it now for there not to be something in it.

Never mind, we have form for this sort of thing.

Injured. Nobody else linked. Last year of contract. Huddersfield want shut. Fine if Sean wants him but why are we (over) paying £5m?

I hoped for much better.

I, like many others, would have been happy to sign Wells a few years back. Since then nearly every first team striker we've had through the door has been better than him. In a time where you want continuous improvement Wells does not tick the box. Christ, Sordell had pace and offered somthing different, but he was well below Prem quality.

Very disappointed with this. But I'll cheer him all the same.

Nobody will not support him if he signs (which seems a formality) but confusion at it is fair. The right 'type' of player (pacy/little) but not the standard I personally expected.

Worth saying that I thought Westwood was a shocking signing and he has been great so far, Wells is obviously set to be golden boot winner.

Got to trust SD but **** me, could we have found a more underwhelming signing?

We need a right winger and centre half as a minimum now. This isn't a signing to help push us on to the next level.

Suggesting it's around £5m, which given the current market, his age and his record isn't bad. £5m is £1m in old money. Overall we'll have paid out £1.5 to replace Gray with Wood and Wells. That's clever business.

All these people (wobbleheads) who seem to know more about players and how they would fit into Burnley FC's current set up than SD and his team.

Self entitlement is an understatement.

SD and his staff know Nahki very well.

They know he has the correct attitude and will fit into the current team seamlessly whilst offering something different to what we already have.

£5 million is nothing in this transfer market.

Good business.

Welcome aboard Nahki.

We clearly want someone willing to come in and fight for their place rather than be a first team starter. Not unhappy with it - he has pace and skill and can play out wide (have a look some of his highlights on youtube) and gives us something different.

Dyche doesn't always get it right on recruitment but he's right more often than he's wrong and he's made mugs of people on this board many who come along with quite bizarre predetermined views.

One can only assume that with the window about to slam shut that it was either Nakhi Wells or Naff All.

When it was known that we would have to replace Gray, Nakhi Wells did not come under serious consideration.

Cue the posts that we need to improve our overseas scouting network.

I was just going off the niggly injury that was regularly reported.

It doesn't matter anyway.

Doesn't change my mind on this purchase, should it happen. I'm crossing my fingers it goes the same way as Lansbury, sadly I don't think these things happen when a large percentage of people want them too.

Just on the injury problem, doesn’t sound much at all. The Huddersfield Examiner reported on 10 August:

<<<Huddersfield Town expect striker Nahki Wells to be back from a minor ankle operation in three to six weeks.
The former record £1.3m signing has had a screw removed which was used to pin a previous injury 10 years ago.
Wells, 27, who is out of contract at the end of this season, did not travel on Town’s pre-season training camp to Austria.
“Nahki was unfortunately one of the setbacks of pre-season having started very strongly,” said Wagner.
“We were very happy to find out what his ankle problem was and he had an operation at the beginning of this week.
“It was a small surgery, it was successful and there are no further issues or problems.
“It will take three to six weeks to ease back, but we are very happy it is nothing major. Everything has been successful and now we can progress his rehabilitation.”
Wagner added: “Maybe we can get him back before the international break (in a month), but if not he will be back in full training after that.>>>

Given that he has a good Championship record and offers something different up front to what we already have, I’ll actually be pretty happy with this signing. The fact that it has severely naffed off some of the usual suspects is just a small added bonus.

There's a lot of posts saying that Hudderstfield wanted rid, they didn't . They wanted him to sign a new longer term contract but he refused and wanted to run his contract down like he was doing at Bradford, as confirmed by our Chief Exec. Same agent as Ings and Austin. Hudderstfield therefore reluctantly selling him and the fans comments seem favourable.

Good addition but would be very disappointed if Ashley leaves though, probably not this window if Wells injured.
