Daily Mail would be wanting him sent home if he wasn't white.

Re: Breaking News.. Man wants to stay in Colne..
I was reading up on this a while back. My understanding is that this law exists to stop women coming to this country and claiming citizenship based on the baby being born here. In many countries, including the USA. A woman can claim citizenship if their baby is born in the USA. Here, they can't. In this situation, it seems some jobsworth has a hard on for promotion or is a stickler for going by the book and is undoubtedly an arsehole.
There are a lot of women who do try it on, but equally there are those who don't.
The odd bit is that it took 21 years to this come to the fore. It should have been flagged up when he was born. Go through the relevant immigration paperwork, which should have been pretty obvious by the mother's place of birth when registering the son's birth.
It is a mere technicality but have heard of similar stories in the USA. A Polish guy (well Polish descent) had worked, paid taxes, voted yadda yadda. Went for his first trip outside the USA. Got pulled up at customs on his way out, after having a US passport issued by the relevant American authorities and was deported to a country he'd never been to since his birth.

He's got an Australian passport, that he applied for...
"Nothing has ever flagged up that I don't have British citizenship until I went to apply for a passport last year to go on holiday with my girlfriend and my application was declined."
"'I just don't understand how they've just got through to me now."
He's not the sharpest tool in the box is he?

How many folk in the UK not born to an English mother? A lot I would have thought.
Re: Breaking News.. Man wants to stay in Colne..
Think this has already been fixed with the excuse being a clerical error. Not sure why it went to press rather than just questioning it with customs, but I suppose the DM just like this kind of story.
Oh, and Colne is a great town to live in!

Remember when evil libruls said it was a bad idea to deny citizenship to people who were born here? Well...

Anyone who doesn't want to leave Colne should be sectioned and removed forcibly.

Brillliant. So this young man aged 21 who was born here and never left these shores has to leave but the Italian lad Learco Chindamo who killed the Headmaster Philip Lawrence avoided deportation after he was released from prison due to the right to family life. yip bloody peeee.

If his parents weren't married, then he is a b******. That means that he supports Blackburn FC. Reason enough for deportation right there.

Well he has a British birth certificate, used the NHS all his life, has a national insurance number and pays both taxes and national insurance, has a drivers licence and did all his education, GCSEs, college etc and voted without ever one person thinking he isn't eligible.SonofPog wrote:He's got an Australian passport, that he applied for...

So yes, I agree with him, if it is the case that he has to apply for citizenship why is it only coming to light now despite all the things he has done? Absolutely bizarre.

Nothing bizarre about it being an issue now, he's just applied for a passport. He's had no contact with the passport office before.claretburns wrote:So yes, I agree with him, if it is the case that he has to apply for citizenship why is it only coming to light now despite all the things he has done? Probably surprising to him yes, and I don't think anyone here actually thinks he's not British, and according to others on here it's already been sorted and admitted to as an error,

He will be ok on appeal. He has lived in this country long enough to qualify for U.K. Citizenship, irrespective of where his parents were born.
Provided of course he is of sane mind and has no criminal convictions. Wanting to live in Colne may therefore count against him

Ever been to Colne Down_Rover, BennyD. Every weekend packed with people from all around this region looking for a good, enjoyable night out at reasonable prices. 7pubs, clubs, micro bars, tapas, restaurants all down the main street all full to busting.
More people in Colne town centre this weekend than Burnley will get at any home match this season and no aggro.

Cracking place is Colne. Got some dodgy areas like every town in the north west has. Full of Clarets and a great night out.

Home Office apologises, will now be allowed to stay in Colne, good luck to him, appalling treatment by faceless civil servants.

Cool. Maybe the Home Office can now get the case of this guy sorted out.
