This all appears to be heading to a very bad ending.

Our only hope appears to be China putting a stop to this idiot.

If not its going to be the west verses China . Not good

It appears Russia seem to be supportive of NK also.

Could be a real mess this.

Just read this was a hydrogen bomb.
10 times more powerful than the last NK test.
They believe it was around 10 kilotons, the Hiroshima bomb was 16kt.

not good, how the hell do we stop this idiot without flattening his whole country and killing lots of innocent brain washed people.

you isolate completely with sanctions, and remove them from all international relations..

i think he thinks this is a negotition position, with the bomb , just remove that and he has nothing...eventually someone from within will topple them

I have just read they are now saying 50-60 kilotons.

That 4 times the Hiroshima bomb, big enough to flatten the whole of London with one bomb.

Scary times.

Not quite the whole of London.

60 kt airburst over the closest thing to a favourable target would create a fireball about 310m in radius, a 20psi air blast radius of 1.1km. 5 psi @ up to 2.72 km
It would likely wake the inhabitants of London Zoo.

IT, not sure where your getting your info from.

Due to crosswind, the bomb missed the aiming point, the Aioi Bridge, by approximately 800 ft (240 m) and detonated directly over Shima Surgical Clinic[143] at 34.39468°N 132.45462°E. It released the equivalent energy of 16 kilotons of TNT (67 TJ), ± 2 kt.[135] The weapon was considered very inefficient, with only 1.7% of its material fissioning.[144] The radius of total destruction was about 1 mile (1.6 km), with resulting fires across 4.4 square miles (11 km2).[145]

So if the Hiroshima bomb caused total destruction for 1 mile, this bomb would cause total destruction for 5 miles and fires over 22 sq miles.

A little more than you seem to thing. I think you need to reconsider your estimates.

I'd imagine IT isn't using his own "estimates" but instead using a simple website to estimate destructive power. He'd have no way of knowing if the info was correct or not without gaining a lot of extra knowledge about nuclear explosions.

That'll be down to construction materials. Many heavy masonry structures survived inside the area of "total destruction".

Image

Infact some of those buildings that survived are very close to the origin of the blast - which makes some sense since it was an air burst and a downward blast is easier for buildings to surviva than a lateral blast - but even some other buildings that will have been hit at about 60-45 degrees survived not too far from the blast.

You can infer from that picture and this one how close those buildings in the top left quarter of the above image were from the blast origin.

It doesn't have to be nuclear explosions. Explosions are explosions. There's no real difference in the blast effects of a 60 kt yield nuclear explosion and a 60 kt TNT explosion. If there was then we wouldn't be measuring nuclear yields in tons of TNT.

Also a 5 mile blast radius would be 78.54 sq miles. Not that you can simply multiply blast radii by the result of dividing the two yields.

Slightly irrelevant what the bulding were built of, any humans wouls still be dead.

My point at the end of the day is this bomb is 5 times larger than the last one used on humans and that was devastating.

I think IT's 310 m kind of trivailises the effects it had.

The blast kills the lucky ones, the ones who survive and die of radiation sickness or the horific burns are the one's who really suffer.

You understand that "fireball" and "blast radius" are two different things, right?

The 1.4 tonne British bomb was found on a building site on Wednesday.
Police helicopters carrying heat detecting cameras scoured the area as bomb disposal experts began their task. Police are guarding empty houses and apartments from burglars.
The evacuation area includes 20 retirement homes, an opera house, and Germany's central bank where half the country's gold reserves are stored.
