Well I hope it is 5-4 to England with Hart letting all four slip through his fingers and legs and leaves the pitch dribbling and emitting strange noises.

I expect England to win the game. Quite comfortably infact.
I don't expect them to win the World Cup as I don't expect West Ham to win the PL.
England get a lot of stick by Fans, pundits, media etc. But why are people expecting them to achieve things they simply ain't good enough to achieve?

I think it's because we're not as good as what we want to be, and not as good as we should be. But for me it comes down to lack of technical ability. John Terry when he was playing for England - a good defender, but I've seen tanks turn quicker.Dyched wrote:I expect England to win the game. Quite comfortably infact.

Re: England vs Slovakia
I agree. Until we have some of our best players playing in La Liga or even Serie A, we're unlikely to win anything.
2-0 this evening.

It's the manner of non-achievement and not the mere fact of failure that pisses people off.

Bang on J50.

That could some up England and their fans. They have no right to think they "should" be the best.
We as fans will choose club over country every time. I suspect players feel the same.

Is there much difference? Non-achieving and failing, are pretty similar.J50 wrote:It's the manner of non-achievement and not the mere fact of failure that pisses people off.

Re: England vs Slovakia
I predict that Slovakia will be 2-0 up at half time. Hart will be taken off suffering from follicle damage and be replaced by Heaton who immediately saves a penalty and a rejuvenated England side go on to win 3-2
Re: England vs Slovakia
I'd say it is Frank. They think they're better than they are. Whereas our players know how good they are.

Re: England vs Slovakia
Only have to go back 10 years to see the difference.
Robinson v Hart. (Should be Heaton)
Cole v Bertrand.
JT v Cahill.
Rio v Jones.
Becks v Livermore
Stevie G v Dier.
Fat Frank v Henderson.
Those two that score all the Spurs goals are not too bad though. 3-1 England.

Re: England vs Slovakia
Slovakia must be pretty useful- they beat Scotland 3-0.
Mind- that was at home & they don't seem to travel well - say 3-0 to England.

Re: England vs Slovakia
Home advantage should be enough for England to edge it,however if it gets to HT 0-0 crowd may well get edgy, Slovenia at home and Lithuania away should equal 6 points for England, Slovakia still have to visit Hampden that's certainly not a gimme, hard to see them getting nine points from these 3 games so a draw may even be enough tonight.

Re: England vs Slovakia
I think if you could answer that question and apply the answer to every match we play then you could be the manager and win something for a change.FactualFrank wrote:So, is that down to the attitude of the players?
Burnley players don't have the pressure of expection and so play so much better. Though when we played Lincoln for example the expectation was high and the players froze.
At least the expectation with England seems to be diminishing so maybe, just maybe...
Oh and I'd prefer that pie eating Sutton Utd reserve goalkeeper to Hart

Re: England vs Slovakia
If (when) we carry the Malta performance into Russia we're going to be humiliated again. I'm coming to terms with the fact that Aidy Boothroyd will be managing England this time next year.
(3-0 England)
(3-0 England)

Spine of the England team:
1990: Shilton, Walker, Gascoigne, Lineker.......World Class
1996: Seaman, Adams, Gascoigne, Shearer......World Class
2002:James, Campbell, Gerrard, Owen..........Euro Class
Now: Hart, Cahill, Henderson, Kane.............wouldn't win in the CL
We've just gone backwards.

Forget 2002. And 1996 was only decent because we were the host nation. You're going back to 1990 since we had a good team and I don't think we played that well even then.piston broke wrote:Spine of the England team:

Re: England vs Slovakia
No because his Under 21's were utter dog **** to watch and always got knocked out early in Tournaments. He's a yes man and it's the one and only reason he got the job. His managerial CV is abject at best. Don't get me wrong, he seems a nice chap but there are plenty of nice blokes about who have a more impressive CV. The FA are clowns.FactualFrank wrote:Yes, because a change of coach has done so well for us in the past.
Regardless of Tom Heaton, Joe Hart has done NOTHING in 2 years to warrant being in the Squad never mind starting. Reputation and yes man mentality

Walker was right back and Shilton was past it and shouldn't have been picked.piston broke wrote:Spine of the England team:

I am not sure that Seaman was even England class.
You are right though, that tonight's spine is poor for an England team hoping to do well in a world cup.

Well if Gazza hadn't cut his toe nails we'd have beaten Germany and made the final so they weren't that bad.FactualFrank wrote:Forget 2002. And 1996 was only decent because we were the host nation. You're going back to 1990 since we had a good team and I don't think we played that well even then.
96 lost on pens. 98 lost on pens.

Has to be said the England fans have voted with their feet at how **** Southgate and his team are. Don't think I've ever seen Wembley so empty for a qualifier !

Always said that the claim we were good in Euro 96 was a myth.FactualFrank wrote:Forget 2002. And 1996 was only decent because we were the host nation. You're going back to 1990 since we had a good team and I don't think we played that well even then.
Switzerland we were awful. 1-1
Scotland see above but we won 2-0
Holland we were outstanding won 4-1
Spain we were poor and very lucky drew 0-0 won on pens
Germany drew 1-1 played very well lost on pens.
So we drew 3 home games and won 2. Not exactly scintillating is it.
