Milk in before bag extraction is just wrong.
Milk onto teabag before hot water should, in my opinion, be a capital offence.

I can't stand tea or coffee. Skimmed milk for me and it has to be cold.

You're right, I misread #10. I do know that Duffer's from Wakefield though so his views on this come as no surprise.COYC73 wrote:You're contradicting yourself.....#10 is one of the people the OP is complaining about.....

So having made a nice cup of tea, why spoil it by adding fluid produced after a cow has had her first calf..?

Drinking Tea with milk and sugar is what separates us from the rest of the world and an Empire was forged on the back a good brew

I'm proud of our history and the diversity of the British people prior to it becoming fashionable to mention diversity. Other countries don't get as hung up on their past as much as the modern British.Imploding Turtle wrote:[code]

Re: Folk who put put milk in a brew before taking the tea bag out
I might be mistaken, but i believe its just British that take milk and sugar in their tea, the Japanese at those tea ceremonies dont bugger about with bottles of milk, nor do the chinese or indians. Not even sure if China is known for tea drinking, or india ? do they drink it?
The countries that serve it with milk and sugar as optional, tend to cater for uk tourists.
the op though, milk has to go in last, boiling water is the only way to allow the tea flavour to flow through the bag or leaves, if you bung milk in first its too cold for this process to occur.
coffee is ok, or was ok until it got all trendy and stupid. cant help but smirk at those simpering gits ordering their ridiculous fancy cappuccinos and the other assorted nonsense from a list of options as long as your arm. once it was nescaff or maxwell house, bloody coffee snobs.

This was actually an insult to people in Edwardian/Victorian times and is where the term miffed comes from. Milk In First. Fact of the day

The strength and character of our great nation has been built on the foundations laid by a good cup of tea. We once dominated the planet because of tea. Drinking tea gives you an edge. Blokes sup tea.
Tea is brilliant. So ner.
Excellent!!! Had to log on to comment as I have not heard this in an age and it made me LOL on a real shi**y day

I'll even double bag in a pint pot

Re: Folk who put put milk in a brew before taking the tea bag out
T bag out milk in is the way.
I hate it when people leave the bag in and then start swishing everything round. Creates a completely unnecessary mess as inevitbley it goes everywhere!! GRRRR!!

I can think of two other fluids in those circumstances.SalisburyClaret wrote:So having made a nice cup of tea, why spoil it by adding fluid produced after a cow has had her first calf..?
After the quiz the other week, does anyone use the milk from a hippopotamus?
Re: Folk who put put milk in a brew before taking the tea bag out
Tea should only be brewed in a tea pot and then poured in to a cup already dashed with milk. Coffee should always be fresh and never from Starbucks etc. and never with boiling water.
Done right both have their time and place, for example; coffee must never be drunk with fish and chips and is woeful for dunking biscuits. Tea however should never be made by colleagues at work, a cup of tea is far easier to bugger up than a cup of coffee.

And, it is always best to warm the pot before you add the tea and pour on the freshly boiling water.DCWat wrote:Tea should only be brewed in a tea pot and then poured in to a cup already dashed with milk.
The science bit: a good cuppa is all about the temperature of the boiling water when it is introduced to the tea leaves, warming the pot ensures that the boiling water doesn't lose some of its heat to the pot and it can brew the tea leaves properly. Once brewed, pour the fresh tea into a cup - or mug - to which you've already added your milk "to taste."

Tea and water temperature:

For coffee beans water temperature should be 96 degrees Celsius apparently.

Ha! I put the sugar and milk in first and then leave it to brew for ages. I accept that brewing should take place before the milk, as it would be in the teapot, hoever, I would point out that loose tea is better than the fluff in a tea bag, so a few on here can calm down!

That's the equivalent to your nescafe or maxwell house thing.

Re: Folk who put put milk in a brew before taking the tea bag out
It all stems back from the Military days when we were based in places like India etc .Army officers didn't like the milk/cream going in after the water as it curdled and looked somewhat unappealing, the way around this was to put milk in before the water which would produce a more appealing cuppa- taste wise there is no difference but aesthetically it looked more appealing.............TheFamilyCat wrote:Why? Just why?
Hope that clears up the issue- and yes, i put milk in before the water and yes im ex-military.

Depending on the region of India masala chai is made with milk (often water buffalo and not cow's milk) or condensed milk... and is just AMAZING... nom nom nom nom nomWile E Coyote wrote:I might be mistaken, but i believe its just British that take milk and sugar in their tea, the Japanese at those tea ceremonies dont bugger about with bottles of milk, nor do the chinese or indians. Milk before water isn't my annoyance, it is milk into a still-brewing cup with the bag still in.thelifeofbrian wrote:It all stems back from the Military days when we were based in places like India etc .Army officers didn't like the milk/cream going in after the water as it curdled and looked somewhat unappealing, the way around this was to put milk in before the water which would produce a more appealing cuppa- taste wise there is no difference but aesthetically it looked more appealing.............

Milk before water should be your annoyance.
Re: Folk who put put milk in a brew before taking the tea bag out
I'm guilty of putting milk in while the bag is still in, it's handy if I'm a bit ham handed with the milk and put too much in, I can adjust the strength. Milk before water is sacrilege though.

What's up with good old fashioned tea leaves.. Far better to chew on and slurp up the side of the mug..
Re: Folk who put put milk in a brew before taking the tea bag out
At least hopefully the tea is warm if milk is put in before after or not.
Now ice tea is just wrong on every level.

You can read them too! I've never heard of people reading tea bags.conyoviejo wrote:What's up with good old fashioned tea leaves.. Far better to chew on and slurp up the side of the mug..
On water temperature, I did some experiments. Boiling water in a kettle (in my hard water area) measures 96 degrees Celsius. After going into the traditional ceramic teapot it measures 86 degrees (I didn't warm the pot).
When I boil eggs in a saucepan the water measures 94 degrees. If I add a generous pinch of salt it ups it to 98 degrees (some recommend adding the salt to improve peeling the eggs but I've found that makes no difference).
