Re: The best and worst Claret Center Forward
We've been very fortunate with centre forwards over the last 15 years or so haven't we? Jay Rod, Ings, Austin, Vokes, Gareth Taylor, Andy Gray, Ade, Pato, Steve Thompson, Stephen Fletcher, Robbie Blake, Andy Payton, David Johnson Ian Wright, Andy Cole, Gerry Creaney.
If counting him as a centre forward then the best for me was Robbie Blake, but Jay Rod would run him close.
Worst, well, for many you have to go a lot further back, but Delfouneso recently was very poor. Gayle, Helliwell, Liam Robinson, Philliskirk, Ian Moore.
I'd say Delfouneso was probably the worst though - he just offered nothing.

But it still says 'Center'. You are the only one who can alter this. Everyone is relying on you.Steve1956 wrote:Done Dermot.. that's twice Ive edited that title its probably still wrong in some way specially to the punctuation police

Goodness forgot about Christopher Biggins playing for us, didn't realise we sold him to Norwich City for 35,000, when that was a proper transfer fee and not a weekly wageMala591 wrote:Got to be Wayne Biggins for me. The rest of the Burnley team (at the time) made him look like a world beater!
'Darkest days' is a phrase which comes to mind.

It's difficult to compare over the years and divisions but Neil Whatmore was one of the biggest let downs as he was clearly shot at when we signed him ? Caughey had a good record but was absolutely shocking ...David Jones ? .. dear me enough has been said ... Wayne Entwistle another who you'd expect to do a job at that time but did next to nothing ... Such a selection to pick from ..

Re: The best and worst Claret Center Forward
If the topic was slightly different, then the best forward on loan springs to mind. Gerry Creaney has cult hero status, pity we couldn't sign him.dandeclaret wrote:We've been very fortunate with centre forwards over the last 15 years or so haven't we? Cole looked a clear cut above at 34 in our midtable championship side.
Diddy David Johnno looked absolute class. Scored an absolute corker out of nothing away at Pompey.
Worst would have been The Fonz and Paul Stewart. Stewart can't have been fully fit or anywhere near fully interested. He'd looked a decent player at Spurs.

Harsh on Juke, he was in injured for a large part of his time at Burnley - though stats don't lie, he got a grand total of 0 goals in all comps so it is hard to argue, but there are circumstances.tiger76 wrote:Worst Juke (Purely for the level we signed him at and money paid out)
He was better than Sordell though, I reckon.

Re: The best and worst Claret CF
Some on the 'worst' list bring back some frightening memories from what was the lowest point in the club's history. There's been half a dozen or so truly terrible players mentioned I'd have to go for Les Lawrence purely on the basis that I saw him play more than some of the others and his conssitently poor performances come to mind more easily.
Whilst not the best don't think I've seen Ray Hankin's name mentioned. He was certainly very good when we were a top division team. Several references to Mike Conroy and '92 - again never a great/prolific striker but almost out of nowhere a stand out season for Roger Eli too.

Re: The best and worst Claret CF
Best : before my time but probably includes Lochhead, Irvine, Casper etc
Worst : David Jones Mk 1 but there's a few running him close Hancock, Stewart dreadful. Juke's all round game wasn't so bad but his confidence was shot and I don't believe he would ever have scored for us.
