Hodgson appointed at palarse.
Just glad it's over quickly. Was dreading another week of SD speculation.

Re: Hodgson appointed at palarse.
SD would surely not even consider them now after this season's shambles. Their board clearly can not stick with a decision with any conviction. Here he is settled, respected and gaining an excellent reputation, and will not (should not)leave now until a truly big club come in for him.

Saw an article on Facebook earlier where Hodgson was sacked hours before being appointed and the next unknown candidate will be sacked this Friday just one hour after being offered a contract 'til 2031.

Thank God for that. Only two relegation places to worry about now.

That Steve Parish is a weirdo.
Re: Hodgson appointed at palarse.
I can't see a big club making a move for Dyche until he's had European experience. I can see him getting that on the continent though.

Re: Hodgson appointed at palarse.
I wonder what the odds are on BFS going there for the last couple of months of the season to try & dig CP out of the ongoing mess (they may've had a third manager of the season by then)?
I think he knocked back their current approach because he's "enjoying life too much" but he'd probably reconsider for a king's ransom and a few months work.
What on earth are the job selection criteria that come up with FdB and then (shortly after) Roy? Clearly not very consistent or well thought out.
I quite like Roy and wouldn't normally wish failure upon him but, in this case, I hope CP remain in the mess they've made for themselves. A relegation spot taken & Parish getting a slap in his smug mush.

Re: Hodgson appointed at palarse.
With Burnley likely to be following a Premier League survival strategy for the next few seasons at least it will probably mean that Dyche will be playing survival tactics and recruiting players who can deliver that style. This is an effective and functional style but maybe not always the most attractive.
This may put off some of the very top clubs from approaching him. The concern is that Dyche will be aware of this and will not want to be put in the same category as Tony Pullis and Big Sam and hence he may consider offers from mid ranking teams purely to demonstrate that with a bit more cash at his disposal he can play a different type of football.
If SD left for a top 6 club he would go with my blessing and thanks but I would be gutted if he left for a Southampton or Stoke.

Re: Hodgson appointed at palarse.
Saturday aside we've played better this season than we have in any other SD premier league season. 4-4-2 was a mistake against a flaccid palace, but with 4-5-1 we've been a lot easier on the eye so far this season.Godalmingclaret wrote:With Burnley likely to be following a Premier League survival strategy for the next few seasons at least it will probably mean that Dyche will be playing survival tactics and recruiting players who can deliver that style. Hodgson is an old safe geezer. Palace may continue to struggle.

He's got Zaha back which has made Palace a good unit again. That's all that's happened.

Didn't Palace have exactly the same upturn in form when Pardew became their manager?

Re: Hodgson appointed at palarse.
True and I find their styles very similar. Steady and organised (you could put Moyes in there with them too). None of them exciting but the SD light ethos is paying dividends. Long term it will depend on who he brings in as to if the up turn continues. Is Roy in more control than Pardew.... I suspect sog, but Jorden will come out of the shadows soon enough and start messing things up.Spijed wrote:Didn't Palace have exactly the same upturn in form when Pardew became their manager?

Re: Hodgson appointed at palarse.
They were already a good side at the Turf and simply outplayed us. A freakish run of results caused the panic sacking. Hodgson comes in, Zaha returned to help cause the kind of havoc wreaked upon us in the first half on Saturday and they had lift-off.Sidney1st wrote:Are you sure that's all it Is?

Re: Hodgson appointed at palarse.
Yes but he had to motivate them, get them going again etc.
Pardew hasn't done that with WBA really and they aren't a bad side either.

Re: Hodgson appointed at palarse.
Palace always had good attacking - flair - players, and of course have benefited from the return of Zaha, but what Hodgson has done, is got the framework right and got them organised defensively.
They were conceding far too many goals last season, and just appeared dis-organised under De Boer. (That having been said they totally dominated us at Turf Moor but gave a way a crazy goal and couldn't hit the target).
Hodgson also appears to have got them playing as a team rather than as a group of talented individuals.
