Centre Back. Always wanted to be in midfield.

Though I reckon I could have been a decent defender if I'd joined a team (i'm 6'4'' now)

Didn't have the engine for midfield.

Occasionally played up front.

Defender, anywhere across the back it didn't matter, I fouled people just as well with either foot.

Sometimes played midfield if team was desperate.

Once scored a goal from inside my own half, I was only trying to clear it.

Goalkeeper, but made a good number of appearances outfield. Always outfield at 5 a side though.

When I was a kid it'd be on the right wing (Teds B team), early 20s I made fleeting appearances as a striker, then after a few years back in the nets I had a spell at right back as I turned 30. Trippier-esque crosses from deep were my speciality, although in truth it was because I didn't have the legs to go any further upfield.

Won a few POTY trophies in the nets, a few cup finals, started playing Saturday football in the West Lancs League and ended it playing Sunday League in Leeds.

Also ran a 5 a side team in the Leeds Law League and led us to a glorious promotion, playing outfield.

Had to call it a day on 11 a side when I spent 3 weeks in hospital and another 2 months off work with an infection in my hip a few years ago, but I made a return to 5 a side this year and can be regularly seen blowing out of my arse at Crow Wood.

The headband has made a return too.

Mainly Left Half!!
(For you young'uns, that translates to left-sided defensive-ish midfielder)
I'm right-handed/right-footed, but my Grandad insisted I should be able to use both feet equally well so I ended up playing on the left.

Left winger inside forward as was. Most of my Burnley idols were wingers. Irony was I was right footed and use to confuse the hell out of opposing teams. My cousin who was left footed played on the right.

Bit of a Martin Dobson all over the pitch, and still enjoy it that way.. sometimes within the game.

When at school I was a striker and in adulthood I moved to attacking midfielder.
And always played in the number 11 shirt

I was the utility player - could play in every position (badly) and wasn't that bothered where I played.

Right back was my preferred position - I was a bit like Kieran Trippier although I had no pace and couldn't cross a ball, in fact I was more like Phil Malley if truth be known. Tried to kick my winger into touch at the first opportunity.

Started out as a speedy left winger, migrated to midfield as speed diminished, ended up a full back playing on either side with no speed whatsoever!!

Right back, 7 a side. Rarely played an 11 a side pitch, not fit enough.

Played on the right wing and then played in a midfield and then as a sweeper. Age related!

Never deviated much from central midfield but have been known to fill in at centre half. As a 12 year old, I was occasionally deployed as a sweeper by a manager who fancied himself as a coaching genius. I think he even had a manual.

It was a failed experiment but then who'd have thought a 12 year old might struggle with the nuances of being a sweeper on a postage stamp sized pitch?

After a great deal of thought I’d have to say unused sub although when forced on it was up front and always preferred the number 10 shirt.

I played left back for Readstone United for a number of years when it was the Warburton League (i think). I also used to get subbed into midfield.

I'm left footed.

I was a traditional number 9. Big man up top (I'm 6'6) for plan B.

My career best season was played 35 - Scored 7

I was awful. 4 of my goals came in the home and away games against the league whipping boys, including a clearance that hit me square in the face and went in!

Full back right and left. I was so good that I became professional, dancer that is. As for the football I was better standing on the Longside.

I'd say a kaka type player with the passion of Stuart Pearce.
My downfall was I had about 10% of the enthusiasm and work rate of Berbatov

Left back. I was primarily right footed but strangely could hit it harder with my left. Once scored a right foot, left foot double both from outside the box within ten minutes of each other :D Pretty good in the air so sometimes came into a left sided central defender position.

Anywhere on the left. It didn't really matter once I had removed my specs as I rarely participated in the proceedings after that!

Up front but was too small when I was young so got taken out by giant centre backs. I have reverted to the attacking midfielder now - a lot less pace needed...

First two games I played for junior school I was in goals. We won the first game 2-0 - so, started with a clean sheet - but, the only memory I have is of telling the ref I touched the ball, so it was a corner, when the ref had awarded a goal kick. I struggled to reach the edge of the box with GK, so corner suited me better. I was small and in the year below the top class. I don't remember the score for the second game. The next game I was replaced in goal by a lad from the top class (his Mum was a teacher at the school) and I was played at right half, but I wasn't ready to play outfield against the "big boys." Following year I was again started in goal - but conceded 7 in 2nd game. I was then moved to right wing - and was a lot more successful.

It's funny what we remember - more than 50 years ago now.

I played defence, either central or full back (right or left, it never mattered) from 50 to 60. A strong tackle, experienced positioning and an accurate pass kept me going (and a blocked coronary artery slowed me down - who knew, I just thought I was "getting old").

Football is still the best game.

Right winger in the mould of my hero at the time, John Connelly, throughout junior
school and onto my 2nd year at senior school. Here they converted me to central midfield
where I continued to ply my trade until hanging up my boots at the age of 28 through injury.

Currently, walking anywhere I fancy at the walking football down at the turf and thoroughly
enjoying every minute of it (injuries, strains and sprains permitting  )

Right back mainly but (being fairly 2-footed) sometimes left back if there was no other decent option in the team
Played "sweeper" for one season with one team back when that was in vogue (I really enjoyed that).
Ended up playing defensive midfield dog as my pace dwindled.

In the school playground I ask these bigger boys if I could play football with them. One said 'yes, you can play right back'. I didn't know what that was so stood right back behind the goal and retrieved the ball when it went out.

A couple of years later and we had sports lessons on the field. Playing football, the ball came to me inside my own half so I just hit it as hard as I could towards the goal. It must have bounced four or five times, including over the diving goalkeeper - I'd scored a goal! Later in the classroom as we got changed the teacher came up to me and said 'I hear you scored a Bobby Charlton'. I assumed that was some technical term as I'd never heard of it.

At primary school I started out as “sub” until our regular keeper moved so I got promoted as his replacement.

As got older I became a direct left winger until various injuries and age caught up with me.

Can’t do 11 a side now but can manage 5 a side playing balls from the middle & letting those with younger legs do the running

Roy Keane Style CM.
Unfortunately not much place in the modern game for the style of play I specialised in.
