Southampton Pubs
Traveling to Southampton for the first time this weekend.
Are there any recommendations for good Real Ale pubs, hopefully with fellow Clarets in?

Re: Southampton Pubs
Hi Gav, all fairly spread out around Southampton, best I've been in that are reasonably near to ground are Guide Dog, Rockstone, Bookshop Alehouse whilst further away beyond station are Waterloo Arms and Wellington Arms and down towards docks are Dancing Man, Platform Tavern and Caskaway. Across river into Woolston is Olaf's Tun which is well worth a visit, also Butchers Hook at Bitterne if you have the time.

Re: Southampton Pubs
Hi Adey, apologies wasn't sure which way round they were.
I'm travelling down tomorrow pm by train and flying back Sunday evening, staying in Premier Inn on 6 Dials near St Mary's.
When do you arrive in Southampton? Give me a bell and will meet up somewhere for a beer.

No 3 bus from Southampton central or city centre to Woolston in direction of Thornhill would get you to Olaf's. Turn right from Woolston bus terminus, down the hill across lights 100 yds on your left. GBG2018 listed. Opens at1300, approx 20-30 minute walk to ground
over the toll bridge. At lesst 4 real ales & 4 keg(craft)

Re: Southampton Pubs
There's lots of good real ale pubs tbh, but a little spread out unfortunately. Butcher's Hook is really good.

Re: Southampton Pubs
That Waterloo pub would've been handy if they still played at The Dell, it was in that area just north of the main rail station as I recall.

Yes a bit out of the way but near to the train station and won't get to crowded I assume.LeadBelly wrote:That Waterloo pub would've been handy if they still played at The Dell, it was in that area just north of the main rail station as I recall.

Re: Southampton Pubs
For good beer can recommend Platform Tavern but there is quite a good choice. For Wetherspoons fans they have three I think. One at Giddy Bridge one on High Street and one near to dock gate four.
Wish I was there but unfortunately have to stay in Thailand for another week.
