New or part worn?

For the first time since being a car owner all my tyres need replacing at once. Usually its only one at a time so i dont mind buying new. Ive never bought them part worn so im a little bit weary about whether its worth the saving or not. Any advice would be apprieciated

Without any doubt - New every time. You just dont know the history of a part worn tyre.

New as said earlier. Anything could have happened to part worn and the other thing is they will obviously need replacing far sooner than a new set would.

Well I will be the one who says something different.

Depends on your car, how you drive and what you can afford.

If you drive a 4x4. Different tyres worn at slightly different rates will result in blown diff, VCU, Haldex units and gearboxes. If it's 4x4 go new.

If you drive a normal car at normal speeds and you don't have 250-300 to spend on new tyres. The cheap option tyres can be quite frankly crap, if not dangerous. You could go get 4 matched high end part words for £120. In my opinion they would be a better bet.

If you go in and ask them for 4 matched tyres part worn they will get them for you.

Over the years I have tried all routes and by far the worst is cheap option tyres.

My personal choice is new, not budget end unless it is the spare. But I don't drive as many miles now so they last quite a while.

I've also seen a few part worn tyres fail in the past, but not had a new tyre fail, yet.

Do you really want to save a few quid and compromise on quality and efficiency?

Part worn is likely to have chequered history. Might look nice on the surface but underneath likely to go flat or even explode at any moment. Will certainly have more miles on the clock than you are led to believe and wont maintain the same firmness once youve started to ride. Youve no idea who has rode them before and how their driving style differs. So its likely to cost you more time, effort and money to maintain a worn model.

Would always go new. Have you tried black circles or tyres on the drive? Very reasonable prices.
If you don’t like using on line sellers then Burnley tyre and battery are very reasonable and don’t rip you off like some of the major tyre fitters

WARNING I bought a part worn tyre after I had a puncture 4-30 pm one wet afternoon, on one of my company vans. I drove the van the morning after and had a blow out on my way to a job in Bury on the M66. You never know if these part worn tyres have been in an a accident before

We use hire cars at work.
As they have been used before should we not drive them or only ones with a bad experience.

Last year one manager was leaving the M6 on the Preston slip road, when the dash lit up and the car stopped. The transit behind him had no idea the car was stopping ploughed into the back of him. Luckily no one was hurt.

That was an Audi A4 with 800 miles on the clock.

I've bought part worns often when I was younger and on a tight budget. Never had a problem with them.
They work out more expensive though in the long run.
Asda sell tyres at really competitive prices. Not many people seem to know this when I've mentioned it to folk

New everytime, there are some bargains in the budget tyre market Riken tyres for instance are owned by Michelin so you might get a old tyre pattern or rubber compound but they are made by a Michelin company, you can get 4 Rikens 225/40/18 for £160 a single Michelin/dunlop etc costs that much. most of the big manufacturers make other cheaper brands Continental make Barums, Pirelli make Arrowspeed, Dunlop make Apollo tyres.

if you are on a budget 3AAA or Rikens are very good for budget tyres, if you have a little more but don't want to be spending Dunlop Michelin money Avons Barums and Uniroyals give you top quality at a mid range price. Try Camskill they are usually decent prices depending on size, you will just need to take them to be fitted.

Part worns are not worth the risk you don't know its history how many curbs or pot holes they have hit, have they been locked up and flat spotted you just don't know. Tyres wear to the car they are on so part worns can cause other problems with wheel geometry when fitted to a different car.
