On Alan Brown, I did say he was just a possible exception, largely on the basis of having got to an FA Cup final with Sheffield Weds, which was a much bigger deal in terms of reputation in the 1960s than it I said now. I was trying to be generous! Cliff Britton was definitely not considered a success at Everton.

Never have I thought the best Manager we have ever had will leave to go to Everton. However, because he is a man of integrity my only thought would be during the international break he will be working to help appoint his successor and have all in place ready to step in after his departure.
It's me completely over thinking things.
He's not going, BFS will get that gig but when the gaffer does move on I sincerely hope and bet that he will be involved with the next appointment.
My hope it will be from within, in 5 years time and will be Mr Duff.

Re: Everton move for Dyche
I have heard today, allegedly from a source within Everton, that Sean Dyche was at Goodison Park twice last week. I can’t vouch for the legitimacy of the source, but I always think in these situations it is reasonable to expect that a club will want to speak to more than one candidate. I don’t think that “holding talks” necessarily means someone is definitely getting the job.Kevwando wrote:Sky sources: Sam Allardyce has held talks with Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri about vacant manager position.

I heard that he was at Goodison last week.
He was there because he'd had Michael Keane on the phone in floods of tears, begging him to come and show him how to defend again.

Re: Everton move for Dyche
Whatever has happened over the last couple of days, BFS has become well favourite in the betting (although SD is 2nd favourite, he's at significantly longer odds).
I know these things change but SD, whilst being favourite for a while, wasn't ever odds on like this. From oddschecker:
SkyBet- BFS 1/5, SD 4/1
Ladbrokes - BFS 1/3, SD 9/4
W Hills - BFS 1/3, SD 5/2
Betfair = PaddyPower - 1/7, 3/1
etc etc.
If Everton are looking for a "save us this season" appointment, this is their best move I think. Longer term may be different for a club that likes to see itself as "school of science".
It'll cost them a fair few £million (incl compo for CP that would be owed by BFS) but worthwhile to maximise probability of staying in The Prem.

It's a bit more complicated than you think. If you say "Everton will offer Dyche a contract", and they don't, then it doesn't necessarily mean there were further developments. There is also the possibility, faint though it may be, that you were wrong. Let's face it, you wouldn't be the only person who has made statements about the Everton manager's job who has got it wrong, would you?Tall Paul wrote:I know, there were obviously further developments, as I said on post 491. My source may have been wrong, he may not have been. Everton might still offer him a contract. Everton might have already offered him a contract and he turned them down, which is why they've gone back to Fat Sam.
Re: Everton move for Dyche
If you want to be technical about it, then what you said was 100% true and 100% useless. Passing on what you have been told while disclaiming all responsibility for its accuracy makes the post meaningless - you could have been told it by a drunk mate and you knew it to be false for all we know. Posting that sort of thing the way you did it implicitly means that you're willing to put your name ot the belief that it's true; and it probably wasn't.Tall Paul wrote:I wasn't wrong because what I said was 100% true.

I still believe it was true that they had made the decision to offer SD the job at the time and, as I said, the situation has since changed. The reliability of the source has been proven to me numerous times with Koeman, Keane and now that they were speaking to BFS. I'll keep any more info to myself in future

I suppose we're all believing Sky Sources now that they're saying what we want? They were dismissed out of hand last week.

It's my opinion
That Everton never had any interest in Dyche at all
And it was his agent
Dyche being the good guy saying I'm getting on with my job
But Mr Agent bigging him up.

BFS has denied talking to Everton
Whether or not that means his representatives or himself directly isn't clear, but he's got a busy week of stuff planned that doesn't involve Everton
I do wonder where Everton are going with this though. Surely they need someone in asap now?

Unless they are giving Unsworth the reins up till January, the result last week gives them some breathing space, you would imagine they would like a decision during the International break games come thick and thin after that.

Re: Everton move for Dyche
with dyche situation it can only really have gone two ways in my view.
Either he wasn't approached and he was right in saying it was "your story" to any questions from media, or...he was approached , has held talks but it was not to his or their liking.
if the latter is the case it means he remains here for the time being, BUT he was thinking about it, he was prepared to discuss a move away, that in itself is quite telling. In other words, the mere fact he would open talks with another club shows there is an issue at Burnley he isn't happy about.
Big sam said everton havent spoken to him when asked this morning, so it seems odd that the two main candidates most folk think were in the frame, havent been spoken too for the vacancy ????

Re: Everton move for Dyche
BFS on Motd couldn't have made it more obvious he had had talks, the thing that got me was he said he was enjoying time at home and I think he said he was happy doing that, so I think that was a mention to Everton that it will take a very large wedge and contract to get him back to work, I don't believe SD was ever in the running, I think they are more leaning especially towards Silva or the guy at Wolves who could bring the Portugese player manager into the equation as well.Buxtonclaret wrote:Very much got the same impression.

Re: Everton move for Dyche
My take on all this.
Dyche - Is happy at Burnley, but his representitives have been putting feelers out over the media, both to raise the profile of their client and with the potential for Everton to come calling with a concrete offer.
BFS - Has had talks with Everton, but would like a longer contract than what is on the table.
Everton - Are currently mulling over whether they can get by with a temp appointment till the end of the season, so they can then snare a more beneficial target in the summer (Marco Silva?)
The biggest unanswered question is whether Dyche ever had any kind of offer from Everton at any stage.

3.5 yrs deal back on the table for dyche even though nothing else out there has said otherwise?
My sources (nothing concrete) is that BFS was interviewed last week and was putting his backroom staff together yesterday.
As Nixon says, everton not interested in dyche.

Moyes said on Sunday, 'that there had been no contact from West Ham", yet what was said on MoD on Sat proved to be correct within 2 days regarding his appointment.
I assume he did not what to say anymore because Bilic was still in a job, but it was a clear lie.

I think it’s blatantly obvious that Dyche is not happy about how we perform in transfer windows. We’re in the position we are now wholly because of Dyche IMO. It has nothing to do with the board.Wile E Coyote wrote:with dyche situation it can only really have gone two ways in my view.
