I met Colin about a year ago at Turf Moor and he told me that there is no film of that goal and he is quite upset about it, and would 'love to see it again'

He certainly did. It came from a clever little free kick routine which they'd perfected in training. We'd scored a similar one in a previous game if I recall.

It was a very good routine. One or two would run over the dead ball and Doug Collins would stand over the ball waiting for what seemed like an eternity whilst players were jostling for position. Meanwhile Waldron would be making his way to the far post when Collins would chip it across to him. This often left him unmarked and he was very good in the air.

They did this move quite a lot a this time. Happy days.

I agree with everything you say AL - I think you'll find it was Frank Casper who curled over the free kick for Waldron to head home. Great goal nonetheless.

The greatest goal he never scored was in the 0-0 fa cup tie with Lpool.
A corner was played directly out to him outside the penalty area and he volleyed it just over the bar.
If it had gone in it would be remembered forever.

I witnessed both of Colin Waldron's goals mentioned above. I guess that is the one not covered by TV, sounds incredible today. The majority of the Burnley fans (who were in fact all over the ground) were stood behind the goal furthest away. What I remember is Waldron sticking his laces through the ball from about 20 yards out. The ball rifling in low, through a group of players to the keepers left. It was the equaliser which guaranteed the Championship and the return of top flight football.
The Charity Shield winner came quite late in the game. We had a free kick on the right wing about 10 yards in from the corner flag near the touchline. I thought it was Doug Collins that flighted the ball in but could be wrong. Doug was imperious that day.

Dougie Collins was an unsung hero in that team. Tremendously talented player who blossomed under Adamson's guidance. He was a major supply line for Leighton James.

I think Paul Fletcher & Jim Thomson probably destroyed the film. Thomson said in the match programme last season v Chelsea that he still can't believe Waldron scored that goal at Preston because he was bloody rubbish.

One of my favourite all time memories of watching the Clarets as it was the first away match I was allowed to go to on the coach with my mates. Think I was 14 at the time and had only been to Bloomfield Road a couple of times with my dad before that.

The pitch invasions after we equalised and at full time were special too - scarf tied round your wrist & Doc Martens etc.
