Okay, so a while ago I posted a link the BRFCS.com, and a thread which was all about Burnley never getting promoted to the Premier League, them always being above us, and us being a laughing stock for our season ticket deal etc. Went down really well. It was around 2007.
Here’s another all about Burnley Football Club in 2008, when they hadn’t played us in the League for years! And they call us obsessed now for laughing at them!

I don't know anything about football or Burnley.

Edited Turtle before I’d read your reply. Forgot about 2000/01. I’d blanked it out completely and for the right reasons. Ha
No need to be a prick about it though.

I like how this was posted in August 2008. We got promoted in May 2009.

I thought that when I read it, Bee Hole. We had an awful start that season, but I love how the tables turned so dramatically and so quickly. We couldn’t have scripted it any better.

Threads like that should be a cautionary tale for any of us who think that 10 years from now the situation can't be reversed again.

I agree entirely. Football is cyclical, which is why I’m of the belief that areas we need to spend money, like the ground, needs doing sooner rather than later whilst we actually have plenty of cash. I don’t want to turn this into another ground thread, but the tables will turn again. I’m just hoping it’s another 15-20 years or so and we still have a reasonably cautious approach which guarantees our future.

Indeed. We could have gone all out for survival in the PL in 09/10, but if we'd failed there's a good possibility we'd be in League One right now having to sell Andy Gray every January.

The arrogance of Rovers fans 10 years ago was something I never quite understood. I can remember posting a reply on Rovers Mad many moons ago about it. There was Rovers fan saying that no matter how rubbish (that's putting it politely) they might get, he thought they'd never be as rubbish as Burnley. The arrogance of the man was baffling. The idea that they would always be superior was always flawed. Not for a second did I think we'd get to where we are now, but I always thought our time would come with Rovers again. They have never been a big club and they've never had a divine right to be in the PL. Their time in the top flight always had an expiry date. It's lovely that our upturn in fortunes has coincided with their capitulation. Long may it continue!

I've no doubt the day will come when we're hopeless again and they're above us. But until that day I'm going to enjoy every minute of it, it's not like we don't know how to take the pain when it's our turn.

I think the likelihood of that is much smaller nowadays, unless we go on a mega spending spree for some reason.

I enjoy the time that we are looking forward to entertaining Arsenal at home in front of a global TV audience on Sunday, meanwhile they are celebrating the fact that they beat Oxford and will be playing Bristol Rovers in the 3rd division on Saturday. Long may that continue.

I left the Lancashire Telegraph Burnley forum a month or two ago for the same reason mate. Actually that is ruined by a multi-named troll who just winds Clarets up (successfully unfortunately). But there are a great number of Rovers fans who are indeed unbelievably arrogant, far more than the size of their club and trophies won in the modern day justify. Fans of other clubs have commented the same. I put it down mainly to the younger (under 35ish)band wagon jumpers who only knew the relative success of the Walker era, the older, real fans aren't so bad. If pinned down about their 'successes' they point to the FA Cups they have won, six of which were won before real football existed and most of the teams they beat don't exist any more. The record of the two clubs in the modern era (the last hundred years or so) is almost identical apart from their odd League Cup win so the arrogance is mystifying to say the least. It has also been pointed out that Burnley's successes have come about from their own efforts whereas Rovers successes have been 'bought' by rich benefactors (Walker and another guy whose name I can't remember from around the earlyish 20th century). The last time they won anything without a cash cow lining their pockets was in the 19th century when Billy the Kid was still robbing trains and slavery was rife in the US.
Yes folks, the arrogance is a mystery to all but Rovers fans themselves.

One of my Rovers mates who was staunchly loyal has finally stopped going at all this season. Hes the only Pre-Walker fan I knew.
The ones who amuse me most are the ones who at school weren't even remotely interested in Rovers ( I lived and went to school in That Place of Misery). Some even actively followed other teams then switched to Rovers -mainly Man U "fans". Most have disappeared back into the woodwork.
We deserve the place we are in and that is what hurts most to the Simpletons who cant see that without Venkys they would have gone bust.

I think that is what most (but not all) of them miss, the fact that as bad as Venkys are there would be no Blackburn Rovers now without them. Are they bad owners - yes. Do they or have they ever known anything about football - no. Has Rovers demise coincided with or been caused by them - who knows, probably the latter. But without a doubt over the last two or three years Venkys have kept Rovers in existence, even to the point of writing off the huge debt they owed to them. I wouldn't want a bunch like Venkys in charge at Burnley but whether they caused the problem or not Rovers fans still owe them something.

They have new Admin on there, Rick, and power has definitely gone to their heads. That is no reason for a ban or penalty points. It just shows that they can dish it out but can’t hack it. Horrible lot.

Bit weird to call the last 100 years "the modern era" to be fair.

So if I'd said 'since Adam was a lad' in fun would you have pointed out that there weren't enough people in existence to form a football team? I wasn't being literal. Slavery 'officially' ended with the end of the civil war in 1865 but pockets of it still carried on for a little while after, exactly when no one is sure.
The first of Billy the Kid's arrests came in the same year as Rovers were formed at the age of about 16. He died just before his 21st birthday in 1881. Rovers first FA Cup victory came the year after in '82.
Both close enough for me for humour's sake.

Laurence Cotton was their first sugar daddy. He broke transfer records, just as Walker did a hundred years later.

That he was, but even prior to him they were formed by middle class business people and were heViky supported financially. It was that which caused the first serious Blackburn club, Blackburn Olympic who were more working class, out of existence. They couldn’t compete.

Thanks for that mate, I'd forgotten his name. It's funny really, they've had Cotton and Walker (not to mention Venkys - a dubious honour but they are still exceedingly wealthy) and we've had.....Bob Lord. Mmm, we've not been too lucky on the rich benefactor front have we? Still, now is the hour and what do we care?
