I reckon we do need a winger. But one who can play CAM as well would be good to challenge Hendrick once Brady is back as when we have a full strength team, Hendrick is probably (through no fault of his own due to not naturally playing there) our weakest link.FactualFrank wrote:No point using shirt numbers as people seem to see them differently. Number 10 as far as I'm concerned is a target man who partners a striker in a 4-4-2 and that's not something we're crying out for. If Brady is out, that's all we're missing - and even then, Taylor could turn out to be a nice replacement. If not, I see that as our only position we'd need to look for in January.

Fingers crossed he will be back sooner rather than later. It could be like when Heaton was injured and we worried unnecessarily. Quite a few hypocritical posters though who wanted him dropping a couple of weeks ago.

As for buying a winger, can any real wingers play in any other position (well, apart from Wade Elliot of course), such as central midfield?

Always worry when the injured player's hand goes straight up, and when players nearby are signalling for help. We are all braced for the worst but lets pray its not as serious. We definitely missed his class today

A real shitter is that.
Brady has been playing well and he was very dangerous today.
We've got to hope that Guddy remains fit because we'll completely lose any potency going forward if he and Brady aren't playing.

Like to see Charlie Taylor brought on as a sub on the left side of midfield. I believe he could be more effective than Scotty who very rarely beats his full back and delivers a good cross

He's played left wing back, whilst spending 90% of his time in the opposition's half, quite a few times for Leeds. I'd class that as playing wide midfield, even if on paper it was left wing-back.kaptin1 wrote:Has Charlie Taylor ever played wide midfield?
He also pretty much played left wing for us when we played Leeds in the cup, especially in the first half.

I really hope that we take a chance on Taylor wide left. Airfield is not the answer any longer even though i like him as a squad member. If we had signed a winger in August we would not have to be hoping that a wing back will do a job but I have a really good feeling about Taylor and he will be desperate to get a chance.

It just shows how we are still lacking squad wise, when a player who's never played in the Premier League (in his normal position or otherwise) is being championed to replace Brady.

He's not replacing Brady though, not really. He'd be replacing Arfield. He'd only be replacing Brady if Brady was fit to start.Bin Ont Turf wrote:It just shows how we are still lacking squad wise, when a player who's never played in the Premier League (in his normal position or otherwise) is being championed to replace Brady.

Re: Didn't look good for Brady, hope he is ok
At the top of the game there are loads in the Juan mata/ David silva/dybala/Mahrez/Willian/Payet/sigurdson mould who can play behind the striker and on the wings. They often specialise in technical ability rather than pace. At our level someone like Will Hughes at Watford would be perfect - but not a realistic target as he moved in the summer. A technical CAM who can also play on the wing.boatshed bill wrote:Sorry, but I can't think of one.

As realistic targets go, Jota at Birmingham (not been great this year), James Ward Prouse (southampton), Chadli, Phillips, Brunt,(West Brom), and the one I'd really like (he's more of an Ings type and admittedly rarely plays out wide is Flourime Andone who we went for in the summer.

Some of the names are just highly technical players who can do a job in any attacking area.
The original point was (correct me if I'm wrong) to find a genuine winger; the addition was that this player could drop into a central attacking midfield role.
My initial thought was that I couldn't think of many out-and-out wingers who could do both jobs.
Quite like the idea of Andone, and I also liked the look of Waris, and earlier, Grosicki and Narsingh. The latter two have hardly covered themselves in glory in the English game though.

Re: Didn't look good for Brady, hope he is ok
Sorry, I wasn't clear enough but mean a winger who plays CAM equally well. I agree about the last 4. Waris would offer loads as he is lightning quick and andone would be a great signing for anything under £18 million. He is quality. Perfect behind Wood, as Ings would be/have been.boatshed bill wrote:I'll give you Ward-Prouse.

There's been a fair bit of coverage this week about SD's diligence when looking for new signings, looks like he's still in favour of UK players, the research on non-UK targets still a bit tricky?

It might seem simple, but if Dyche only speaks English he might feel signing a foreigner who doesn't speak a word of English, or very little, makes it more risky. Then you have the fact that overseas players often take time to bed in.boatshed bill wrote:It's interesting to see what other people think.

The second point, about settling in, is a valid one. Add to that the fact they may have families who don't settle well if asked to re-locate. It's not like we are really wealthy and can sort them out with lovely new houses.FactualFrank wrote:It might seem simple, but if Dyche only speaks English he might feel signing a foreigner who doesn't speak a word of English, or very little, makes it more risky.
