Re: Scott Arfield
Arfield is a modern day legend. Never had the most ability but works as hard as he can to make up for it, covers various positions and his greatest attribute doesn’t diminish whatever level we are playing at - scoring crucial goals.
Whether we sign another winger and Brady is fit at the end of the season or not, Arfield will have a place in this squad for a good few years yet. Perfect bench player/fill in player.
Super Scotty!

So many times it’s been questioned whether he’ll step up in a situation like this. Every time he delivers.
And he put the ball in the Bastards net.

Can't pass to a player 5 feet from him with no opposition for 20 yards.
Can pass perfectly into the corner of the goal against an advancing keeper.

Re: Scott Arfield
Looked like he was low on confidence until his goal and then had a good second half, strange how all the squad constantly prove us wrong , today I was worried about long but he showed he can do the job , pope, long ,arfield, bardsley, all of them stepped up , is lowton in getting back in ? Is Heaton? What a squad what a manager !

Slotted straight back in a with a solid performance and a very well taken match winning goal. Never get the fuss / criticism of him.
Good performance by Long too, can't be easy to come in for first game of season but the whole squad seem to know the game plan / system and play it very well.

Very well taken goal but I thought he was poor up until that point. Grew into the game and looked a lot better when we went with two up top and he found spaces in more central positions.

Re: Scott Arfield
A great servant to the club but I think that's pushing it. If Hendrick plays centre mid, he is a quality player and would fit straight into our midfield if Defour and Cork weren't playing so brilliantly. Out of our whole team, I'd say Hendrick is probably the one that has the attributes to be the best player. He is quick, powerful, good dribbling and a decent passer. He has promise to be a very good player.IAmAClaret wrote:

I'm not doubting arfield, but saying Hendrick is definitely not half the player.

Re: Scott Arfield
Let’s not overdo it here. Scotty has been magnificent for Burnley, and I’ve been purring about his performances at times, but mainly in the Championship. In the Premier League it has far too often seemed like a step too far for him to have a serious impact on games. Today he was pretty poor for the first 25 minutes, and was regularly giving the ball away or underhitting passes, although I get he’s first team rusty. His decision making wasn’t decisive enough at times in the second half either.
That said he scored a great goal and is a brilliant squad player. He didn’t have the greatest of games but has been a great freebie. I really like him, but we need better in that position. Sorry Scotty.

Re: Scott Arfield
Has real knack of popping up with a deft finish at just the right time and played very well overall today. However, there was a time when we weren't so good as a team when he was an absolute linchpin in our midfield week in week out, scoring or not. These days he is a long way from that MOST weeks, IF he plays.

Re: Scott Arfield
There might not have been much by way of proper slagging off of Arfield this week, but there's been plenty of folk who have been guilty of undervaluing him and being just a tad disrespectful to someone who is a very solid, reliable and essential member of the squad. You need players like that, and if you are going to keep them, you need to keep them interested and that means giving them fair opportunities when your first choices are unavailable. That's why talk of preferring a full back whose never played in the Premier League at left back, let alone left wing, ahead of him was just plain wrong.
Fortunately, Dyche isn't that daft and he was rewarded by an excellent performance today. The goal was beautifully taken - real class and composure - but that wasn't his only contribution: he was involved in most of our better football throughout the game. He took 15 minutes to grow into the game, but even in that time he squeezed in a cross that was only cleared away at full stretch when he had no right to do so. After that he was one of the best players on the pitch.
Of course, there were some things that Brady might have offered that which Arfield doesn't, but equally we saw what Arfield can offer in terms of touch, awareness of space and composure. Hopefully, he can continue confounding those that underestimate him over the next few weeks.

Re: Scott Arfield
There was also a growing understanding between Defour and Arfield through the game which really augured well - Arfield dropping into pockets in the inside left channel to find space, and Defour understanding his run and supplying the pass. Integral to both the move that resulted in Barnes having the goal disallowed, and when JBG forced a great save from Gomes.
