Keirby Hotel shut down
Re: Keirby Hotel shut down
Sparrow up for sale and not sure about the development near the circ....it's something to do with Brendon Flood I think so maybe it's going into administration like the rest of his companies
Re: Keirby Hotel shut down
This building has been subject to CSE investigations for quite some time now
Re: Keirby Hotel shut down
Probably totally wrong about the Circ and UFCB, thought it looked like student accommodation they were putting together.

Re: Keirby Hotel shut down
It was student accommodation but wasn't sure it was UCFB. They have nothing left in Burnley now, it's all at Wembley and the Etihad even though it still carries that name which is BFCU backwards, or Burnley Football Club University despite it never having any connections with the club other than renting accommodation at the Turf.NL Claret wrote:Probably totally wrong about the Circ and UFCB, thought it looked like student accommodation they were putting together.

Re: Keirby Hotel shut down
Stayed there, occasionally years ago, back in both the early 80s and again in the early & mid 90s.
Saved mucking about when going on for mid week games.
Remember one time, Paul Weller's family staying there.
It was ok.
Cheap and cheerful.
Better than some very cheap ones I've used in Paris that had holes in the floor for a loo.
But yep. It's an ugly building.

Re: Keirby Hotel shut down
The development at the circ was in intended to be student accommodation. Interestingly, all of the room arrived as pods apparently furnished with basic furniture and just needed connecting to mains power/water etc. Each pod already had a mattress in it, which was easy pickings for the lads who made a couple of trips in a transit van in the dead of night away from the watchful eye of the builders. I don't believe they got away with it though..

It's UCFB but why a missed opportunity?cricketfieldclarets wrote:Ufcb a real missed opportunity by the club.
Just imagine if the club had invested heavily in it, and it was a time when we didn't have much money, and the whole thing had gone tits up. How well is it doing now? I know it's at Wembley and the Etihad but is it making shed loads of money? If not, it wasn't a missed opportunity. If it is, potentially a risk the club just couldn't take at the time.

With UCFB part of me was proud our town was the first to have it, but the other part of me tried to see it from a neutral’s perspective, and you’d rather be educated at Wembley or the Etihad than in Burnley.

It was a missed opportunity because it was a prestigious and groundbreaking education centre capable of attracting future sports business leaders from around the world to the town and club.
But this is a local town...

Didn't all the top quality minge head for Manchester in the 70's ?
I remember the Cat's, Angels and Swiss Corner...and though they were crawling with one night humps and desperate 50 year old wifeys in leather kex, I never saw owt worth the cost of a room...Burnley was strictly knee-trembler territory back then surely ??

One would imagine “ confessions of a Keirby night porter”would make the Asquith cheeky cockney chappy efforts look like highbrow art house .
I also vaguely remember a bar in there (maybe mid late 80’’s,) bit of a roughhouse up some stairs possibly? The name escapes me but it must of been open when the Hop was still going .Used to deliver to El Greco across the way

Re: Keirby Hotel shut down
Ucfb in my opinion was a one trick pony offering very limited value degrees and jumped on the all kids need a degree band wagon. I think I saw a sold sign at the Sparrow on Saturday when exiting the Talbot. I think that and the Keirby will go the way of the Endsliegh building and become flats aimed at younger singles and couples.

SparrowHawk suffered really from not having a safe car park. No-one is taking it on as a hotel without that. I recall Mark Radcliffe once stayed there after a gig and he found his car had been broken into the day afterlakedistrictclaret wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 4:02 pmDon't know, but I walked past The Talbot yesterday and noticed a "Sold" sign.

Sparrowhawk has had internal work done recently. I only walk past on matchdays, but there's definitely activity there.
No idea what the intention is.
And yes, The Talbot has a sold sign.
