They had to appeal it given the comments from the manager, otherwise he would have looked even more stupid.

Will he look more or less stupid when the appeal is dismissed out of hand?

Not a chance of success with this. Ref was right.

They can't overturn that one because it would show the Ref to be wrong and that can't be the case because Sean Dyche said it was the correct decision ;)

It's not the silliest or most frivolous appeal ever, but it would be a big surprise if they are successful. To extend the ban would be "harsh, harsh, harsh".

Dermot Gallagher, on ref watch, has just said correct decision.
Appeal will be denied and I would add a game as frivolous appeal.

Off the ground
Two footed
Scissor action
Missed the ball
No concern for the injured player

Shame they can't extend the ban

They have to back the ref on this one. As listed above there was enough there for a ref to give a red card.

Instead of whinging off Silva ought to start coaching his players not to tackle full on from the front sliding in. If you get the ball fine but even then what's the point as you are on your arse anyway. If you miss the ball it is a card of one colour or another.

I don't think our players slide in like that too often probably because Sean has drummed into them it's a dumb idea. However he has a bit of work to do yet with Bardsey on bookable sliding challenges.

The photo at post 13 isn't as appears.
The thug actually managed to take out both of Defours ankles at the same time.
That right foot took his left ankle and vice versa.

The pundits on motd said it wasnt a red, they also said it was harsh on Rudigger, Bol...ks i say. Lineker had to get a sarcastic little dig in again about us being on the same points as Arsenal and spurs, probably because we are above his little Leicester cronies, the the crisp munching pr..k.

Think its quite lucky for us that Defour saw it coming and had started to leap out of the way.

I've no idea why they have appealed as it looked worse on tv replay than it did in real time.

There is one camera angle where you can see quite clearly that Probert has got it right. How on earth they can appeal that is beyond me.

I don't think any coach will teach his players to tackle two footed so they know it's wrong.

I'm sure most football fans would agree that it shouldn't be a red. But it is. Those are the rules. Same for Hendrick last year at Watford. Whenever you go in for a ball like that you take an almighty - and usually - unnecessary risk.

Thankfully, I think Defour saw it coming and his leg wasn't planted, therefore this may have saved him from more serious injury, which could have derailed our season (imagine a BFC side minus Defour, Marney, Heaton, Lowton and Mee).

What is most frustrating is when these rules are not consistently applied i.e. blatant dives not carded.

Has anything been said about Defours injury from Saturday? He looked to limp off pretty badly.

If a set of studs right on the shin, gets dismissed, accident or not, then there would be carnage every week. Geoff Hendrick would be a bit miffed too.

Even the Watford reporter accepts its a daft appeal.

‘On the surface, a high foot from the left-back doesn't appear sufficient to get it overturned, even though it has divided fans and pundits alike.’

completely frivolous appeal, let's hope they stick another game on for that and ban Silva for being a whiny little bitch - most be a routine thing for Portuguese managers when they don't get their own way

I googled it, I don't read the Sun usually, obviously.

if the FA rule a club has lodged a ‘frivolous’ appeal, a three-game ban can be increased to four.

Pretty sure we didn't.

Dyche's comments on that red:

"It wasn't so much about our sending-off. It's a tough one for referees. I don't think there was a lot of actual contact, but we know most times that's going to be a sending-off."

Rather like Defour if he hadn't started to move out of the way at the last second.

Didn't they show a stat on motd of most red cards since start of last season?

Watford topped the list with 7 I thought it showed.

It was similar to ours at Watford. There was probably no intent there but you can’t tackle like that now.
Can’t help but feel he’s backed himself into a corner with his antics on Saturday.

I agree it was very similar to Hendrick's red at Watford (that was after 6 mins). I thought that harsh but Burnley didn't moan about it for days on end.(or appeal it)

I have to say that this is one of the innovations in refereeing I agree with. When I was playing a lad on our team got his leg broken by a similar tackle and never played again. The referee that day did not even give a foul as the player leaped in and played the ball two-footed before taking out the player. Completing banning this type of tackle has been long overdue.

I don't think there was any intent to harm, just over zealous. But if you go in with two feet off the ground studs up, it's a sending off regardless of contact
As it was he did catch SD.

The ref on Sky said the red was correct as was both the offside goals. Halsey in the Sun said not a red and both goals should have stood. If referees can't even bloody agree, what the hell chance do the rest of us have.

Every rule change the FA bring in just muddies the water even more.

And that's exactly why I'm sceptical about video playbacks in match time.
As someone mentioned further up, we've been debating this for two days
on here and there's no agreeing.

Its an iffy one, in real time it looked nasty but having watched the replay its almost like he tackled too early and the initial aggression and force had gone by the time he clattered Defour clumsily. He wasn't off the ground, its definitely a harsh one but you kinda have to expect a red card when you go in two footed.
