Re: Winter Pictures
It’s a mystery to me Cricky!
I was stood outside the Turf with my steaming hot Bovril in my hand when I thought, ‘that’d make an interesting photo with the floodlight behind it’. So I took one.
When I looked at the piccy I’d sent to Winter Photos, there it was, - gone.
Perhaps it’s another of the unbelievable things happening at our club this season.
Anyway, hopefully it’s there this time.

Ingleborough has the most impressive prominence of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, especially from the Lune Valley side.Lancasterclaret wrote:

Yeah, it dominates the valley so you can see it from all the way down it, and pretty much all the way down the Cumbrian Coast to Barrow

I think it depends if you are shooting in RAW where the image is not compressed and therefore you can alter a bit more of the basics - shadows, highlights, contrast.HatfieldClaret wrote:When do touched up photographs cease being photography and become art ?

Also if you are using a tripod and taking bracketed shots which you combine later it is often just the same as using a graduated ND filter.
Why bother shooting in black and white mode when you can do that in post.
A lot of these tools are just mimicking things you'd have done using filters and black and white film.
Exposure, contrast, brightness, saturation - all legitimate photography tools.
Effects tools obviously come under the art category, but then some effects done by pan zoom and other tricks whilst shooting are part of photography.

Re: Winter Pictures
The thing is, no matter how much you edit a photo nothing can do justice to the real deal.
Some of my pictures above have been tweaked in a slight way, some havent. But none look as good as it did with the naked eye.
I saw some pictrues online of the isle of skye before I visited. And I couldnt believe the pictures and thought in reality it will be a disappointment. The truth is its an even more incredible place when you get there. The colours, the shapes and stuff - nothing like the pictures, in a good way!

Windermere last weekend:

Some feathered friends:

However:

The lady in question had a large bag of birdseed and was promptly engulfed by winged animals. The large black raven-like bird in the photo pecked out one of her eyes and it appeared that she was having some sort of cardio crisis as I ran away at full speed. I wish her all the best and hope she returns to full health in the near future.
