Imploding tithead must be crying into his milk right now.

Hopefully he regathers and finds a clever retort he can copy and paste from Reddit?

I've said it before but he does have a good footballing brain and has a lot in his locker. Not being a bigger goal threat is his achilles heel but he's scored 2 corkers with limited appearances. Looks leaner too.

We lacked that bit of aggression until he came on. I'll blubber like a baby if he ever leaves. :)

How many times in the Prem...

It was rumoured as £700k but then Dyche let it slip in an interview that we had paid £450k in transfer fees that season. The other signings were free, so £450k was Barnes.

I agree... He was very popular there.. Though sadly not many of the Brighton fans on Saturday would have seen him play.

The year Brighton were promoted as league one champions he was awesome alongside Glen Murray.
His chances were limited in the Championship as Poyet went with the lone striker. Ash did however manage a start against the mighty Clarets... Mind you he was sent off after just a few mins of the ko.

Not prolific but he scores big goals which almost always help us secure points. He's also a very confident penalty taker.

SD has used him really intelligently this season the odd start but he's a genuine game-changer when he comes off the bench and gives defenders something different to think about from Wood/Vokes. Arguably most effective as part of a two but can play the lone striker role.

Wonder what you'd pay for a PL striker with all of those attributes in the current market.

Really pleased for Ash. As someone who took part in the loan/share exercise which allegedly raised the cash for his purchase in 2013/4 I feel a particular loyalty to him. Because he is what used to be called a bustling player, his touch and skill are often overlooked. A much better all round footballer than Gray. All that said it is his ‘physicality’ which gives us a different dimension, especially late in games

In the minority I know, but never been a fan. But have to say he's done really well for us recently scoring and playing a part in some in some really important games. We didn't play well on Tuesday and never looked liked scoring until he came on and all of a sudden their defence knew they were in a game and of course the he won us the game.

Hats off Mr Barnes.

When you look at the other teams around us, rotating or resting star players and then look at our squad and see we can also do that with Ash, Vokesey and Wood you realise that our squad is becoming impressive in comparison to a few years ago. Who would have thought we could go 4th with Pope, Bardsley, Tarks, Long and Taylor on the pitch at full time, squad is getting better and stronger with each transfer window. UTC

His chest-down, touch, and finish for the goal on Tuesday were truly sublime. Such a shame that they got only a cursory afterthought on MotD last night. Rather like our match did.

Me too. I have been a mild critic of Barnes for some time, not that I think he's bad but I have doubted his PL credentials. I have always said 'a good sub' and yet again he proved to be just that on Tuesday. I suppose it makes us all wonder what an extended run in the team would bring but I'm still not certain about taking that risk.
Incidentally (and I haven't checked this so I don't know) but could his goals per minutes played actually be better than Wood's? Anyone know?

Unquestionably the MOM for that incisive moment of brilliance that lit up an otherwise drab game and grabbed us 3 points when it looked like the game could go on till Xmas without a goal ...... and not even included in the Voting list for MOM !!!!!

That's a good stat for Vokes, makes me wonder why he's not first choice sometimes. Actually if that stat of Barnes held up over a full season (assuming he played all games) that would make him a 12/13 goal man, that wouldn't be so bad at this level at all.

Thanks for the info.

bit unlucky not getting the goal credited against Watford too.

I've always thought he scores the goals that matter

The one thing I don't like about Ash is his excessive use of his elbows when jumping. It seems to have become commonplace these days but I don't like it.

However, he is a SD player. I don't think I was alone in wondering why the boss was so keen to sign him but I understand why now. He is totally committed to the Claret cause and, as very rightly mentioned by ontario claret, he's come a long way from Paulton Rovers.I think that must have been one of the reasons why SD liked him: a man who worked and worked to become a Championship player and now a PL player.
