The Park View

Post by burnmark » Thu Dec 21, 2017 10:32 am

Is it only open on match days now?

Just drove past and it looks an absolute tip outside with rubbish (plastic glasses, food trays etc) from what I presume has been left from the Stoke game.

I know it’s been suggested before on here but could it be a viable option for the club to buy - second/replacement Fanzone etc?

Don't know about opening times, but there must have been a function on because I drive past every night and i've not seen any rubbish outside.

Its a shame. Could and should be a good pub. But as per thee sidewalk tgread society has meant its current use is unviable.

Unless they do anything with it should only open match day. If it was themes around the club could be a great pub.

As it stands though crap beer and tatty.

Not sure if it's an option with brewery ownership involved, I assume a brewery own it anyway.

The club could buy it and do good food on non matchdays to keep it profitable and along with the fanzone it would be some more income.

The club should absolutely buy the Park View.

The fanzone area we have is superb, but imagine kitting out the Park View inside, Claret theming/pictures all over the walls, TV's showing old games, real ales from local breweries etc, maybe a section even for away fans too on one side of the bar or something. Then of course, the current marquee/big screen could be put in the (newly paved!) car park, along with the other BFC Community bits and bobs like the penalty shoot out and pizza vans etc.

Would be a fantastic idea, might be a bit of a money pit and take a long number of seasons to pay back it's cost, but let's be honest the club could easily afford it and it would be a fantastic thing for the fans.

Some decent ideas above, [some potential] but I don't see that it's a viable option based on being busy from 1.00pm - 7.00pm once a fortnight approximately, and no/few footy matches from May to end of July.

It would be a start if they sorted the beer out, which has generally been shiite for years.

In the 1970s was one of the best pubs in Burnley. Busy during the week and packed on Thursday - Sunday evenings. Beer was ok and a great juke box (happy days before dj's and karaoke appeared).

Best chance of survival might be real ale and good quality home made food. If I had my way all pubs would be independently owned and their business rates scrapped.

Just come out of the club shop and walked across and we said exactly the same. It’s an eyesore and wants putting out of its misery. It would be perfect to move the fanzine there.

I went to the club shop for something last week and looked across to see a filthy eyesore and run down building. So much litter it was untrue. A great shame when the new Clarets Store and stand facade now look so good. It lets the whole area down.

The club should definitely take it over, and use their hospitality expertise to ensure there's decent food at a decent price available on weekday evenings (only pub grub, think the Waggoners), and then on matchdays really push it (like they have with the fanzone).

The fanzone gets packed, and the recent tie in with Bowland Brewery would lend itself well to getting decent beer on in the pub.

I said much the same when the Duke of Welly went up for sale.
I know the club wasn't exactly flush with dosh at that time, but
if they could have bought it, renamed it The Jimmy McIlroy or whatever, had a big opening night,
they'd have coined it in. Not just on match days, but it's only a spit and a stride from the Prinny and Turf
and the centre. But then the kebab blokes got it.

Would have been an asset, and the PV could be the same, whatever it's use.

The only problem with the fanzone is its popularity. Because of its location it means people trying to get round to the Longside are having difficulties pushing their way through. Not sure where it could be moved to though as things are now.

Also noticed it this week, it always looks grim closed during the week but the chips trays and crap were a lot more noticeable recently. Surely the burger van should clean some of the crap up.

We should be using our new found wealth to build a permanent fanzone structure, (not a big tent) the pubs and clubs around the Turf are full to bursting point on match days now that the Fulledge and Burnley League has shut down, the club are missing out on extra pre-match revenue.

I don't know about weekend games but after the last two mid-week games (Newcastle, Stoke,) it was open before but not after the games. I thought maybe the police had told them to shut for the Newcastle game surely not Stoke.

A pub what opens one day a week,I wonder how much they take on a match day to make that worthwhile, they will still have rates and all that to find,I find a pub opening for one day very strange.

Your spot on with the burger ban.seem to be reliant on a bin at the bus stop and a permanently full bin. For the prices they charge.£2 for a bottle of water you'd think three or four bins wouldn't be out of the question.

Place is a dump unfortunately.
I'm sure it was up for sale for £50k a few years ago - but that would be just for the tenancy I guess.
The current management turned it into a sh-it hole and the beer is absolutely awful.

I think it could break even if the club bought it and as said put plenty of memorabilia in it, put food on etc. It's a big pub - you could easily fill it on match days. Since The League shut in November the 110 club has been packed to the rafters on all 3 floors every match day.

Rename it The Centre Spot....bit of nostalgia. Or The Dog & Dyche.
Or DeFour Seasons Hotel

I'll get mi coat !

Marshall Burke recently took over Sales at Moorhouses. He'll know how viable it could be as he's got vast pub and brewery experience and, of course, the BFC connection.

A Burnley owned theme pub, with some of the extras listed here. They could play all away games live in there.... certain people would flock to it to catch the game within spitting distance of the Turf.

Most of the set up would be neglagable as support staff are already employed by the club. Suppliers would fall over themselves for the in with the club too.

Never thought of it before reading others comments, but I think its a superb idea.

Don’t think we’d be able to show the away games - there will be all sorts of rights issues that would prevent that.

Agree that it should/could be a good pub with the location it’s in

I can’t see the club buying it as the fans zone must cost very little to run. It’s a big tent that’s all. Imagine having to run a large pub 7 days a week which is only likely to be busy on match days. Stick to the fans zone and improve that

I know it is something that the club have looked at in the past but it hasn't been viable.

One consideration was to use it as extra corporate accommodation on match days but then where would you put them in the stands for the game?

I'm certain that the club would make a move for it if it was a sensible option. Until then, it will remain an eyesore, sad sight now for what was my first ever local, long before the extension was built onto it.

For the club it's greatest value is car-parking - the corporate hospitality lark would require extra Kitchen/waiting staff - they already run 2 lots on match day - quality control becomes an issue - that is why you will see them occasionally link up with nino's and the like for extra hospitality when the occasion calls for it - coaching people to and from

Quite a random one as someone I know mentioned about a month ago that it had been sold on (they said the club had bought it but I wasn't too convinced) - it was random as the person isn't from Burnley so it was quite an odd thing for them to mention.

Since then it seems to have pretty much closed which makes me think that someone else has actually bought the place.

Does seem a good idea but I think there is a better idea.

With building work due to start in January in the two corners of the Jimmy Mac stands the Fanzone will have to move.

The end of season player awards are held in the Elite Training Centre with a marquee set up inside. Imagine having the Fazone in there. It would be dry, warm, proper toilets and will hold a lot of people. You would have the big screen inside and food available as I think there is facilities in there for doing food.

This would solve a few issues that will arise when the building work begins.

Re the litter around the Park View, if it's not already a Council condition for the pub and the burger van to keep the area litter free, then the Council should hold them responsible for not having enough bins for people to place rubbish in. Or they should both employ someone to empty and replace the full bins bags and keep the area tidy. McDonalds were made to do it, why not these, before the litter wardens swoop on the area and issue supporters with on the spot fines. Litter was always a problem on match days before drinking from plastic cups outside pubs and food trays. After matches the Council roadsweepers used to tidy Brunshaw Rd up on Sunday mornings, but with cost cutting things have changed. But then why should they be responsible for the pub and burger vans rubbish, which is like fly tipping to me.
