Can anyone name any of these ex-Clarets
Re: Can anyone name any of these ex-Clarets
Long time supporter of the Clarets and first time poster after viewing UTC since its inception. Interesting photograph and no idea what the occasion was but after Colin I would suggest we have Keith Newton followed by John Talbut with Les Latcham on the end although Ian Towers is also a good shout. Front left is surely Gordon Harris with his distinctive curly top and speedy Roy Stephenson 2nd from the right. Possibly a Charity game with then current and ex Clarets making up the team.

A lot of these charity games were played at Bank Hall Miners, or Lucas,s sports field Reedley. Jack Butterfield was involved with the Ex Clarets although he was unable to play, Jack did a lot of the organising has he had been working at Lucas before the Turf

I think the pic is too soon for Newton as it has to be before 1959 and I don't think ex-clarets were formed until after were won the league in 1960 but I may be wrong

Is Reg Atwell on there? Before my time but I knew his son...and the guy arms folded at back as a look of him.

I had a very good friend who was an engineer and I don't mean he just turned a lathe but a highly skilled bloke and he always told me to check my work.
Well I have, just now and after many rubbish posts by me on this topic (and pre-empting other replies maybe posts at other times) just noted that
CT advised us the pic was in the 60's and the clarets one assumes are "has beens" playing for the ex-clarets, games I attended in the early 60's.
So Doug Winton retired in 1964 which puts this pic around that time onwards I guess.

I'm almost sure the blond guy on the back row is Ken? Bracewell. He was a Colne lad who I think went to the USA to play and coach at some stage.

Middle Back row with the blonde hair is Kenny Bracewell
Don't think he made the first team, played for the reserves and he did go to the states.

Lovely man Bill, first met him around 30 years ago when I first started dating Mrs Clarets4me. I'd echo every word about him being a gentle giant, used to see him and Irene in Marks & Spencer regularly up to his death in January 2015. They lived on Powell Street, just off Manchester Road for years. Irene passed away in October 2016, I think in the same week their daughter Sara, was made a Judge. Bill would have been so proud !addisclaret wrote:Yes it looks like Bill. Always remember after walking his daughter home and sitting down for a cup of coffee; he was always happy and smiling, almost your stereotypical gentle giant. Too young to have have seen him play but my Dad says he was unlucky to have been at the club when we had a plethora of good strikers.Scored a hat-trick in the central league against Rovers so must have been good because the reserve team was pretty decent in those days.

Yes he would have been proud. So pleased to hear that Sara was made a judge, haven't seen or heard from her for years now. Still have some photos somewhere from my wedding where she was the bridesmaid.Clarets4me wrote:Lovely man Bill, first met him around 30 years ago when I first started dating Mrs Clarets4me. Just for clarification, the one with the ball is definitely Michael "Mick" Henegan. As stated he did play golf at Nelson, after starting at Towneley then going to Burnley. He returned to Burnley about 10 years ago but packed-in the game a few years ago. He lives over at Newton in Bowland. He played mostly for Nelson FC, along with his brother Bob, who also worked the milk round with him later, before Mick switched to owning/running a care home. Think Bob went to Aussie.
