Chelsea after our Ash

Post by Colburn_Claret » Sun Jan 21, 2018 2:12 pm

Just read it on the transfer news on sky.
I'd laugh at it , but after they were linked with Crouch, Carrol et al, anything is possible.
They can't ever have watched him mind, because they think he is a target man

Took my youngest (Man U) fan yesterday, he's always slaughtered AB based of TV viewing. After yesterday he said he's a brilliant player in that he's a constant nuisance and threat...and can potentially get 3 or 4 free kicks a game in dangerous positions. Foolhardy to get rid, our best attacking threat...not scorer but certainly threat.

Chelsea are being linked with just about every centre forward in the league right now, but I wasn't expecting this.

He’s not really a target man in the traditional sense of winning headers, holding the ball up and linking play. He’s not great at any of those things. He doesn't score very often with his head either.

He’s a nuisance and has an edge about him. Sometimes that’s effective for us, some times it leaves us looking toothless.

I’d be amazed if anyone at Chelsea thought he had the quality to supplement the players they have.

No, he's not naturally a TM but that's what he's been playing as this season and he's been doing it very well. He might not be "great" as the role but i think it's his best roll.

In the best form he’s been in since he’s been at the club, and he’s an important part of our team. There’s no chance we’d sell him for £5m.

He’s done ok, but his limitations are there for all to see. I don’t think he’s good enough long term to be someone you might need to rely on regularly to lead your attack in the Premier League.

All around us, we like him.

But its three/four times a game when we all are laughing at his attempts to win free kicks.

The way he took his goal at City in the cup, plus the winner against Stoke, shows his ability!

You are right on both fronts he is in the best form since he joined and I don’t believe we would sell for 5million.

However I personally would happily shift him on. I would love us to strengthen up top and for me what he offers is greatly out weighed by his lack of goal threat and (linked) his attacking movement. Only my opinion and I know the majority don’t agree, but that’s just how I see it.

I'm still amazed that fans criticise Ash.
The ball he laid off for JBG's cross is typical of his play, and we don't have anyone who can lay the ball off, on the right line, with the right pace, like Ash does. Not Wood, certainly not Sam. He doesn't score as often as either of them. He isn't as strong in the air as Sam, but he has a side to his game that we need far more than a poxy 5 million.
Ash is unsellable in my view. Not that I'm buying the headline anyway.

TBH I don't think many Clarets do underrate him as he's almost universally popular here (unlike at Brighton where he seemed to be a "marmite" type of character.
What does surprise me sometimes is how often we talk about "the best value for money signings ever" and inevitably Duff's name or Arfield's is always at the top, but crumbs, £350,00 or thereabouts for Barnes was an absolute steal and even SD probably thought it was just basically a short term thing to shore up our first promotion push, but here he is still starting PL games and scoring goals. Great business and possibly the best ever.

Conte alienating Costa looks more hilarious by the day.

They will be after Ntumba Masanka next!

If Chelsea dont have an academy player that can offer what Ash can they may as well scrap their academy now!
