Pope : 8 - some key saves and dodgy kicking
Bardsley : 4 - poor challenge for penalty ; lost ball a number of times ; poor final ball....needs dropping as not been good for a while (but he was fine in first few weeks when Lowton got injured)
Taylor : 7 - thought he had a good game.
Mee : 7 - played well.
Long : 6 - did ok
Cork : 6 - seems to have lost some of his early season form and getting caught on the ball a few times (still key player for us though)
Westwood : 6 - did ok
JBG : 6 - looked good first half but faded in second.
Arfield : 5 - never got in the game.
Hendrick : 5 - again didn`t really get in the game. Surprised he stayed on but actually thought he improved when he went back into midfield.
Barnes : 8 (MOM) - what a shift he put in and our only real goal scoring threat.

Lennon : 7 - thought he changed the game when he came on.

We didn`t play very well tonight against a very poor / lacking in confidence Newcastle. I think a more attacking line up and going for them for the start could have led to a very different performance. Last 20 mins we were much better with Lennon on and playing 4-4-2.

Pope 8-very sound hands great pen save he's almost TH!
Bardsley 4-pretty poor and yet another red card in the waiting i think "time up" and Lowton back for citeh
Long 7-didnt have a lot to do but commanding
Mee 7-one error 1st half but sound otherwise
Taylor 7-improves all the time, couple of runs and probs will keep Wardy out
JBG 6-not at his best today and Nkoudo gonna be competition
Cork 7-played well imo and at the heart of most moves
Westwood 6-neat and tidy though big boots to fill
Arfield 6-1st half ok faded badly and i'd imagine Lennon will replace
Hendrick 7-one of his better games and was alert and a few nice touches
Barnes 7-decent and unlucky with disallowed goal (nice control) could have been sent off

Lennon 7-lively,qucik and tracked back-Must start vs Citeh
Vokes 7 1 for the goal,he did his thing
Nkoudo-6 on late but quick and skillful-love him to start

Was good at 1 v 1 defending especially when they were 3 v 2. Great tackle and positionally sound but lost his man for the goal and got beat in the air off Joselu all night.

We look dangerous, full of fire and magic with Lennon on, nkoudou too. He's absolute class that Lennon, changed the game. Brilliant fight in Burnley tonight, well done, happy.

Lost his man for the goal. Second half too casual going for a header and the Newcastle player took the ball from him and got to the byline on the right hand side.

And for the mention that Hendrick looked better when he played deeper, that will be because its his position. Playing off Barnes is not. Anyway:

Pope 8
Bardsley 5
Taylor 7
Mee 7
Long 7
Cork 6
Westwood 6
Hendrick 6
JBG 6
Arfield 6
Barnes 8 *

Pope 7 - odd kick in 1st half aside was very comfirtable
Bardsley 4 - caught in posession a few times and almost gifted the points to them
Long 6 - alright
Mee 7 - solid but frankly Newcastle are toothless
Taylor 8 - got us oit of a few holes tonight
Gudmunsson 6 - curates egg
Cork 5 - looked well off it tonight
Westwood 6 - alright
Arfield 7 - zippy and worked hard defensively too
Hendrick - 5 not strong enoigh on the vall but a great dink for the disallowed goal.
Barnes 6 - did the dirty work really well but he has to score at 0-0.

Lennon 7 - made a difference - should have started

Vokes/Nkoudou - not on long enough

Feels a bit harsh on barnes as he was terrific in hold up but for all that we ceeated hardly anything and he fluffed both chances. Harsh to disallow the goal but you cant put your hand on anyonw these days.

Hendrick, Guddy and Cork all look ready for a rest si i am surprised Dyche didnt bri g in Lennon to start and push scotty or JBG into the forward role. Lowton has to start saturday.

Pope - 9 fantastic
Bardsley - 3 horrendous again, kept diving in, got caught 3 times in possession and left us 2v3 at the back. It's like he runs with bricks in his boots.
Long - 7 Solid, bailed Bardsley out with a vital interception. Maybe at fault for the goal but it happens.
Mee - 7 Solid
Taylor - 8 thought he was excellent

Arfield - 4 rubbish
Westwood - 4 didn't even notice he was on the pitch
Cork - 6 iffy at times but effective on the whole. Not his best game but Cork never drops below a 6/10.
JBG - 6 positive but often up against 2 defenders on his own, Bardsley doesn't offer much of an overlap.

Hendrick - 5 has great quality, carries the ball very well, looked better when he moved deeper. His confidence looks shot
Barnes - 5 worked but ineffective, won next to nothing apart from a few freekicks.

SUBS

Lennon 8 - changed the game, has to start on Saturday but he won't.
GKN ? Looks a real threat when he gets the ball, god knows why he can't get more than 10 minutes would love to see him and Lennon have a run in the side.
Vokes 8 - far more effective than Barnes, +2 for the goal.

Vokes 7

GKD 7

Really poor use of the ball. Mee, Bardsley and Cork gave the ball away under little pressure time and again.
Long was steady. Pope was excellent. Westwood steady but nothing outstanding.
Lennon and GKD offer hope for the future, alongside JBG we have some real ball carriers, so long as we use them wisely.

Deserved point just, against a poor team.
Considering the injury list I'll take that.

One of the worst performances of the season. Disjointed hoofball. Injuries starting to catch up with us. Newcastle well on top in the first half and should have put the game to bed. We did well to keep fighting and had a good last 15 minutes but were very fortunate to get a point. Really missed Defour in midfield tonight and Tarks at the back. Hendrick was much better when he was moved back to central midfield. Delighted to get something in the end. Would have been a miserable drive home otherwise.

Pope 8 saved a pen. Tipped one on to the post commanded the box. Earned Burnley a point tonight.
Bardsley 3 dire looked like a fifth columnist.
Taylor 8 Atsu was subbed after an hour as Taylor canned him. Good going forward as well
Mee 7 Mr Dependable
Long 7 decent game but did lose Lascelles for the goal.
Cork 6 worked hard
Westwood 6 first start for a while so did ok
Gudmundsson 6 didn't really create much, workmanlike
Arfield 6 as above
Hendrick 6 ditto
Barnes 7 long way from the pitch so difficult to see why some of the free kicks were given against him. Missed a golden chance at start of the second half, but tbf the midfield didn't set him up tonight but he kept their defence pretty well occupied.
Lennon 7 start on Saturday please. Has tricks and pace

Vokes and GKN helped turn the tide and along with Lenmon created panic in the Mags ranks. If the game had gone on another 10 minutes there was only going to be one winner and it wasn't going to be the Barcodes.

No scores just a few comments.

Bardsley was not as bad as some suggest but it is probably time to give Lowton a run.

Long was solid for most of the the evening was left for dead on their goal. But these thing happen, it was well worked and hopefully there will be a lesson learnt.

I am not convinced by Hendrick in this number 10 role. If we are playing Barnes up front, who will occupy the defence even if he wont score many, I think we need a more nippy terrier like 10. Could Wells do this? Personally I would prefer to see Vokes playing up front, I think he offers more of a goal threat, and I would like to see him being service by at least one of our new wide men and perhaps JBG tucked in behind him.

However we are 7th, we have a huge injury list and have just secured a nice away point so mustn't grumble.

Pope 8 - easy pen save, had a couple of other good saves
Bardsley 4 - rash, poor positioning, lack of urgency
Long 7 - did ok
Mee 8 - the most consistent outfield player
Taylor 6 - 7 for his defensive work, 5 for attack - another Dave Jones when coming forward but great tackler and positioning
JBG 6 - barely got a touch first 60 mins with the ball in the air
Cork 6 - missed his MF partner
Westwood 6 - lack of gametime obvious
Arfield 6
Hendrick 5 - usual anonymous performance and almost cost us with poor passing
Barnes 7 - held ball up well and fed off scraps

Lennon 7 - changed the game with his intensity
Vokes 7 - added a threat

We'll take a point but Newcastle are that bad I wonder what would have happened had we attacked earlier. The first hour, our play was barely championship standard - hit and hope, no composure etc, but I think in the circumstances we played it 'safe'. Taylor looked great defensively but we miss Ward going forward , equally we missed Defour using a bit of initiative

The pass completion rate means nothing. No. of attempted or the range of passes is far more telling. I could pass a ball backwards ten times, each one 5 yards and non-penetrative...100% success

He attempted 31 passes, completing 25. He played 2 successful key passes
Barnes attempted 21, completing 14. 1 key pass.
Cork attempted 28 passes, completing 18. 2 key passes.
Westwood attempted 30 passes, completing 22. 1 key pass.
Arfield attempted 21 passes, completing 17.
Gudmundsson attempted 23 passes, completing 12.

So he played the most passes from our midfield forward, and the joint highest number of key passes.

a key pass is defined as:
Key Pass
- The final pass leading to a shot at goal from a teammate

So again, he was the best on our team in that respect. People need to remove their blinkers.

Pope - 8 Kept us in the game, brilliant penalty save.
Bardsley - 4 Positionally poor, penalty poor- stay on your feet, there was no need to dive in.Carried the ball, but kept coming inside with it and when he lost possession on two or three times it caused us problems
Long - 6-Decent game, lost his player for their goal though.
Mee - 7- Solid
Taylor - 5 Frustrating as he got in so many positions to put a cross in and either checked back or took an extra touch and the ball didn't go in
Westwood - 5 Looked like the game passed him by
Cork - 6 Defensively stuck to the task, but looked over run at times
JBG - 6 Hardly got a look in but was a threat when he got the ball
Arfield - 6 Defensively did well, neat and tidy, but did not offer a lot going forward
Hendrick - 5 Looked better when he dropped deeper and the last twenty minutes, but he is a central midfielder and not a 10
Barnes - 6 Barnes does what he does, feeds off scraps and makes a nuisance of himself, but there is no one to feed off the knock downs

Lennon 7 - 20 Odd minute cameo, first thought go forward, prepared to try things and be positive and chased back to get possession, will do well here,
Vokes 7 -Caused problems and scored goal via Darlow.
Nkoudou 7- A ten minute cameo and looks good, would like to see him get a bit longer

For 70 minutes we struggled, Newcastle should have wrapped the game up, a penalty miss, hit the post, good saves from Pope and Elliot's easy chance. We did not play or control the ball, long hopeful balls to an isolated forward. At 1-0 if you stay in the game you have a chance, we got our chance and took it, Lennon, Vokes and Nkoudou all had a positive impact. It was a performance of the here and now, we are without Heaton, Ward, Tarks, Brady, Defour and Wood, the loss of a couple of those is bound to affect performances, so to be without all of them is bound to be detrimental.

So he played the most passes from our midfield forward, and the joint highest number of key passes.

a key pass is defined as:

So again, he was the best on our team in that respect. People need to remove their blinkers.
Excellent facts. More like it! State those in future instead of a meaningless `pass completion rate` otherwise some people may think you have an agenda. I guess it`s what happens in the world of twitter.

Taylor 7
JBG 6
Cork 5
Westwood 4
Arfield 7
Hendrick 7
Barnes 7

Lennon 7

Poor first half. Hendrick going to CM and Lennon coming on changed the game, so fair play to Dyche.

And...out of the 19% it nearly cost us. Stats can mean anything if you want them to mean it

Pope 8
Bardsley 4 Lowton in please
Long 7
Mee 7
Taylor 7
Westwood 5
Cork 5
JBG 6
Arfield 6
Hendrick 5 once again this is not the right position for him. Very frustrating but will be a shoe in for Saturday.
Barnes 7

Lennon 7 gave us a different dimension.
NKoudoo needs much longer gave them something to think about

Don't think Newcastle are that great a side although Kenedy looked good. We were poor to begin within and the introduction of the subs helped us to take the game to them. If we just sit back and invite pressure against City we will probably lose anyway so we need to try and give them something to think about at the other end which will mean pace and trickery. We were so pedestrian and one dimensional last night when we could have taken the game on.

Didn't go, but reading the comments it makes me wonder if Lowton isn't fully fit hence Bardsley starting in front of him.

It was a very clever run around the back but close to the mob. Leaving Long no room to stay alongside him. He possibly could have warned Taylor there was a runner coming? Taylor looked to be marking space and was in front of the mob. More a good goal than bad defending.

Yeah, fair enough, he just seemed to be following his man about 2 yards behind.
