Eddie's a good manager clearly but he does like to get in a bit of stirring before games. He seems to crank it up when playing teams managed by people he sees as adversaries (such as Gatling and Cheika).
I doubt that any of this will affect the game but it's fodder for journalists and fans in the game build-up.

Another interesting sets of games this weekend then a fortnight wait for the next round.
There seems to be such a strong home advantage element in 6N games in recent years that it's difficult to bet against 3 home wins this week.

Yes I wish Eddie Jones would button it a bit, I don't think it's a good idea to wind the opposition up like that...sometimes that stuff comes back to bite you on the butt..Wales will be fired up enough as it is. Jones and Gatland have grudging respect for each other but both would kill to win this one...the front five battle will determine winner and loser I think...be nice to get another England win tomorrow down in Swansea.

** bfcmartin...might help - the best pubs are in Richmond imo..the Orange Tree, the Sun, the White Cross, the White Swan, the Old Ship, several others and two in St Margaret's, the Turk's Head and the St Margaret's Tavern. Twickenham pubs are fine but get very busy. Will be about £6 a pint inside including £1 for a souvenir 'glass', and drinks in the seats are allowed. Give Twickenham station a miss until at least an hour after the match. Enjoy.

Ok so the day before two of the games and how I see it .
England you have to go with them really as they look strong but Wales will push them and will be less then 7 points in it .
Ireland yer should have enough really expect it to be quite tight early on Italy will score but a Bonus point win for the Irish who run out 20 points plus winners .
Scotland , after last week they have to improve as for France who didn't play well but we so close to winning , going to go for a dour game but think France will win it by 4 points .

As "par score" markers, my bookies has:
Ireland to win by 33
England to win by 12
Scotland to win by 5

I'm going for: Ireland by 21-25; England by 6-10 and France by 1-5 (France have got to come good sometime ??). Odds on these: 7/1, 9/2; 11/2 so if I get just one right, I'm in pocket. We'll see.
I had France to win by 1-5 v Ireland last time but very pleased to see that final effort by the Irish kill my bet as it was a great set of phases/dropkick and the greens deserved the win that game.

Wales to beat England by 26-30 points = 100/1
Italy to beat Ireland by 16-20 points = 110/1
Scotland to win by 6-10 points = 17/4

A tenner accumulator on that would get you over half a million I think.

Looking at that Wales team playing tomorrow I would only have 3 Welsh players at the most playing for a combined team. I think the Welsh are in for a shalacking and the bookies agree with me!

I had Ireland by 26-30 points, England by 6-10 points and Scotland by 6-10 points....£4 singles and £4 on the treble..

Ireland outperformed and the treble's gone, but I'm sitting on £24 ( Eng by 6-10 @ 5/1 ) with the Scotland v France game to come...

I thought the Welsh hand was on the top of the ball when the ball was still in the air, but on the side of the ball as it hit the ground.

Was he in control of the ball ? No.
Was there downward pressure (old rule) ? No

Correct decision ? I think so.
Harsh for Wales ? Yes.

Before the days of the third official, a try would have probably been given. The perils of video refs.....

I thought the "was it a try or not" incident was pretty 50/50 could've gone either way. The attacker touched the ball before Watson but very debatable that he "pressed down on it". The third official decided it wasnt a try having seen a fair few replays and angles so you have to accept that.

People saying that try (& conversion) wouldve given Wales an extra 7 points to win the game are wide of the mark. They were playing advantage when that happened and, try not given, went back for the penalty from which Wales got 3 points. So the "loss" was 2 points, or 4 points if concerted.

Around the 70 minute mark, England had some concerted pressure well inside the Wales 22, some of it very central. If England had been only 2-4 points ahead, they wouldve gone for (and probably got) a drop goal. (They probably shouldve gone for the drop anyway at only 9 points ahead then).

Someone said yesterday that all sides should be happy with the game: England because they won, Wales because they have another perceived injustice to moan about for the next 12 months. ;)

thought the TMO was right - the Welshman was never in control of the ball - his hand brushed the side of the ball which was spun by that action - even the old wording of "Downward pressure" would be questionable but you would understand if it was given last year - this year those words are no longer in the regulations - no try.

As much as Wales did well to come back into the match - England should be disappointed with no further scores after the 1st quarter - I thought we were on for a bonus point

Yer right as they have now come out and said that the TMO was wrong which everyone know well apart from the TMO at the game and his white walking stick .
Can you explain the term " downward pressure " hummm a touch like a feather or a ton of bricks both are downward and both press .
Hope the French get their act together and score an injury time try with a knock on against the English .

I think 'downward pressure' is old hat now.

'In control' is the current phrase apparently. If so, I'd say he wasn't. Unless I was Welsh (or Irish) that is.

So round 3 all done and dusted .
Now didn't get to see the France game as at a local football match but France have won a game at last .
Ireland did everything they could to lose the game which they controlled as Sexton was shocking taking kicks which is very much unlike him . It's all in their hands now for the championship and the Grand Slam .
England , well this has been coming but still a shock to see how bad they were . As for the Scots they did ever so well as passion really drove them along .
All in all very happy ......

I think Ireland will beat Scotland because of home advantage.

England will just edge France

Wales will beat Italy.

So round 4 not that far away .
So today the early game in Dublin , can't see how the Scots can hold the Irish today , i think the Irish will win by 15 points and a bonus point to boot.
As for the next game the defeat last week will hurts England but the French will just about have too much for them and i see the French win in a low scoring game .
As for Wales v Italy hard call anything could happen loads of tries but Wales should have too much but you never know .

Ireland will be crowned today as Champions .

Hummmm you will not see me for dust if i am wrong .

A decent start to this match, might not be much in it...Scotland look encouraging.

Hoping for a Scottish win, and an English win later [that won't be easy]...which French XV will turn up?

Then we might get a very interesting St Patrick's Day match next Saturday....yes please.

Scotland have thrown this away...let two easy opportunities go begging, and conceded a soft 7 points themselves.

21-8 after 55 minutes.

Ireland will beat England quite easily next week and complete the grand slam. I played rugby for 15 years but am finally losing interest in the game. Too much stop start these days. It's all about penalties and the running passing rugby is nowhere near what it used to be. Too many things are open to the refs interpretation .

The French penaltry and yellow card was a joke. It was the only way he could make a tackle so close to the line. There was no malice in the tackle, it wasn't deliberate and nobody hurt. Maybe he was supposed to stand there and let him score, a penalty to France would have been the correct decision.

Congratulations Ireland. You got a bit lucky in France but generally look a bit above all the rest this year and made us look pretty ordinary.

Thank you France and Scotland.....,,

I quite agree with you on the yellow card, but according to the laws, the Referee had no choice !

Which Club did you play for, Firthy ??
Was a long time ago in the 70/80's. I played for a small team called Ronaldsway on the Isle of Man. Went to Lancashire on a few trips and played teams like Prescott, Chorley, Newton le Willows and Lancastrians(Morecambe)

Always remember the Barbarians/All Blacks games from that era. Proper running rugby.
