I heard on the radio yesterday that Paul Simon is going to knock it on the head and has announced a ‘retirement tour’ finishing this July in Hyde Park.. James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt x were announced as support..
That looks a pretty good line up to me.. thing is last time I went to Hyde Park for a big show it was Bruce S. and he brought Paul McCartney on to help him with the encore and the ‘authorities’ pulled the plug on the music, because 6 residents in Mayfair complained that their dinner parties were being ruined by ‘loud music’.
I said I would never go there again.

Sunday 15 July, British Summer Time, Hyde Park: Paul Simon "Homeward Bound The Farewell Performance." I've got my tickets. Gates open 2pm. I doubt Paul Simon will still be on stage after 10pm - love it if he is, of course.

Also got tickets for Sunday 8th, Eric Clapton plus Santana, Steve Winwood - gates open 1pm.

£90 for the front seats! I'm sure that's at least 60% up on just a few years ago when he played Manchester Arena. He's worth it though, compared to most modern bands.

The Bridgewater Hall is a great venue for someone like James Taylor,the Manchester Arena isn't intimate enough for him.

Buffy St Marie! Now there's a blast from the past, remarkable voice. Always remember Soldier Blue, a beautiful song that was the theme tune to one of the (up to then) most graphically violent films ever made. The massacre at the Indian camp almost made me cry considering that it was a real historical event. I think it was known as the Washita River massacre. The film however did make out that the Indians were mainly women, children and elderly whereas historical accounts suggest that there were many Indian warriors and that several Soldiers were also killed. However, given that, as they say, the winners write the history books, who knows.
