It is first and foremost a BFC site, is it not?billyhamilton82 wrote:As a football forum it would make sense to split the board.
For those that have the time and need to debate other subjects they can jump on that section of the board or flit between the two.
As a Burnley fan when I come on a Clarets site I am only interested in Clarets news and topics.
To make the BFC topics easier to access has to be first and foremost for a BFC site.........doesn't it?

Re: Potential Message Board Changes
By I think common consent, this is one of the better, more interesting football forums out there, for the size of club we are.
There’s a reason for that.
If the board was split ( in any way) we would lose traffic and users/ contributors...no doubt about that.
I’m on here for the football, but I find plenty of other interesting stuff as well on a wide range of topics. There are some very good posters on here.
It has been said already, worth asking again..
How difficult is it to avoid ( not click on) topics that don’t interest you..?
For example if the title of the thread mentions
Donald Trump
Fish and chips
The Oscars
Best Fims
Peaky Blinders
Dark Side of the Moon.
Best holiday motorway route to Dorset then it’s possibly not a football thread.
** too many idiots who have no interest in a particular topic, but would like to stop other people reading about that topic...what’s that about.
In case you hadn’t noticed this has been a lot more than a ‘football forum’ for YEARS.

I'm not too sure what this actually means and whether it requires the derogatory term?
I didn't realise there was an option to stop ALL off topic posts .....my bad I didn't see that.
This is becoming like one of those awful off topic posts where some posters get upset over absolutely nothing.

My post is on topic - which bit isn’t?
Yes I guess ‘idiots’ is a derogatory term but as I didn’t mention a single person, I’m not sure what you’re getting excited about.
Someone who cannot spot that..
campsites in the Lake District
Samsung vs Apple vs Sony
- are not football topics, is an idiot.
On this occasion the mods are attempting to carry out a decent survey of opinions to see what people prefer.
There are very clear options to choose from.
IN THE PAST I have seen a number of posters clamouring for this to be a football only forum... I will never understand people who don’t want to read something themselves, but would want to stop other people reading it..
- move on, click on something else.
*** If this was ‘football’ only what would it look like mid-May to early August?

Re: Potential Message Board Changes
I wouldn't worry HamsteadC, people are voting with their fingers, and overall we don't want the board to be split into football vs none-football subsections.
That much is clear.

Please can we split it football/non-football?
Or just give PStotto his own board?

I hardly come on here.....maybe once every week or two just because of all the non football threads, fighting, name calling and general unpleasantness....if the forum was split to football/non football I think it would be s lot better....also get rid of the criptic thread titles that don't tell you anything about the threads content.....example: "What would you do?"....."What do you think about?"....is it so hard to put a title on a thread that tells you what is in it?

Re: Potential Message Board Changes
Having thought about it I would like to see if by some programming wizardry we could have the initial poster asked to tag it with a topic.
This would be linked in with an option when looking at the main board to look at 'all' or filter by topic.
That way those that want a footy/non-footy split can do a DIY split and them that want to keep the status quo can just look at 'all'.

It's an internet forum though, the BACK button is right there in the corner of the screen, it's not like you're stuck next to knobheads on a train or in a pub, you just click BACK and it's gone away.COYC73 wrote:I hardly come on here.....maybe once every week or two just because of all the non football threads, fighting, name calling and general unpleasantness....if the forum was split to football/non football I think it would be s lot better....also get rid of the criptic thread titles that don't tell you anything about the threads content.....example: "What would you do?"....."What do you think about?"....is it so hard to put a title on a thread that tells you what is in it?
It's a community of Burnley fans, we're not all the same, we don't all of us only talk football and there's always plenty of differences in opinion, but we've all got BFC in common and even in disagreements that's important. People having a row with someone on one thread can find themselves talking tactics with that person on another and laughing at joke they told on another. I think that's a really good and a healthy thing, especially with how divided society is becoming. It'd be a shame to break that apart, this is one of the best places on the internet in my opinion.

Re: Potential Message Board Changes
Clearly, this would be a very difficult discussion, given that Dorset doesn't have any motorways. It would all depend whether you are counting A31 as part of the M27, but the general consensus would be that it isn't.hampsteadclaret wrote:Best holiday motorway route to Dorset.
Very interesting stuff, for football and non-football forums alike.

Re: Potential Message Board Changes
I post on the message board far less than i did and the main reason is the small number of posters who drag the vast number of threads into slanging matches.
The majority of threads about religion/brexit are deliberately started to get a rise out of other posters and to start another petty squabble between the usual suspects.
'Use the foe function' i hear you cry, that doesn't work as the thread has been taken off an a different tangent and has lost it's original meaning.
People may disagree and tell me to ignore threads and not be so precious but i am giving my reason for staying away from this message board to a large extent, unlike a small minority on here i can find other things to occupy my time and have chosen to do that.

Re: Potential Message Board Changes
Thanks to all those who voted and for all the comments received although, sadly, some had to be removed.
It will take a while to sift through everything and look at all the points before deciding on a way forward. It may be that we have another poll. But at the end of the day we want the board to work as best as possible so again thanks very much.
The poll is now closed and so I'll now lock this thread.
