The Turf rocking

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Mon Mar 05, 2018 10:31 pm

BT sport has coverage of the 2009/10 season on player. Have seen Blakes goal countless times. But the cheer when that goes in is something else. Can anyone recall anything to rival that at any level? Spurs the season before maybe?

Will we hear anything like it again?

It was like 40 years of tension released in one cheer!

Keane's equaliser against Middlesbrough almost two years ago, the noise was incredible.

Scotty's opener against Chelsea had many a fan floating above their alloted seats and screaming their lungs out

Wasn't Turf - but Ewood for Ings goal was special.

Blakes was unreal - 1st season in CFS and just remember it being mental.

Yes they thought they'd won it jumping up and down on the touch line the noise heard in jmu was like a crack of thunder. Brilliant night did we go above them on goal diff. That night?

No, the draw meant we remained two points behind them with three to play and we were above Brighton only on goal difference.

It was
Middlesbrough 86
Burnley 84
Brighton 84

Had we not scored that goal the table would have been
Middlesbrough 88
Brighton 84
Burnley 83

As it happens, Middlesbrough didn't win again. They drew their last three games whilst we won all ours. Brighton won one and drew two.

One thing's for certain though, the atmosphere in the Longside upper on Saturday was very subdued. Not sure whether it was the early kick-off, tension based on our poor form, or whatever, but I'd love for it to get back to Blake v Man U or Keane v Boro levels as a regular thing!

Jay Rods goal to make it 3-0 v Spurs in the League Cup semi-final was something else but the Keane equalizer v 'Boro was up there.

I was stood up as the Jay Rod goal went in and my mate was sat down next to me - when he jumped up to celebrate he socked me in the nostrils and broke my nose - I celebrated that goal by having 2 black eyes for a week..... would have been so worth it if those stupid AET rules weren't in place for that competition.

The noisiest my home has been was when Keane equalised against Brighton away. It felt HUGE and "justice" was done. My poor son, who was 1 at the time, almost had a heart attack.

the ten game without a win stretch wasn't down to Dyche's substitutions it was down to us!
Yes us!

When the Turf rocks the team rocks so look in the mirror before blaming other folk

These are all fine recent memories of noise and atmosphere but looking back in time the Orient game (what else) was a whole other thing, left with my ears ringing that day.
Also, don't know who would remember this, but back in the early 70's when we played away at Blackpool in their only foray into the top flight in years. The whole covered kop end and half one side was ours and it was one of their biggest away attendances of the season I was told. I got chucked out that day before kick off by a copper who took umbrage at my being on a mates shoulders. Thankfully he didn't escort me all the way to the gates so I sneaked back in and avoided him the whole game. Brilliant noise all through the game though.

Think Keane v MBoro was the loudest noise I've heard at the Turf - there's bit of concrete that are still vibrating

A couple of niche ones probably long forgotten.. Fulham at home around 2001? I think it was 2-1 with Little scoring a late winner. And as a youngster, around 1990 a couple of late goals knocked Stoke out of the FA Cup, wildly celebrated at the time but that was of course back with terraces.

Around where we sit, Barnes' winner against Palace sent everyone more nuts than the goals against Boro, Spurs or United. Weird for essentially a mid-table, mid season game but it was a top match.

I am so lucky I don't go on as much as I would like or should BUT I was at that Boro match and sat just above the Boro's dug out and we gave Karanka HELL when we scored AND I was at the Spurs Cup match and will always seeing Harry R's face when we went 3-0 up!

Great atmosphere
